letrozole and ivf

Hi! Yes, letrozole is the same as femara, and it does work alone. I used it alone for three cycles, and I had two mature follicles each time. As for moving straight to IVF after femara, I'm not sure why he wouldn't suggest injectable/IUI first...but you could always bring that back up if you don't get pregnant over the next three/four cycles. After AF shows in 2 weeks or so - we will start on letrozole with CD3 blood work and U/S and then do another IUI. If that is unsuccessful - we will do IVF. Has anyone done letrozole vs clomid? side affects? BFPs? also - i will be in NY when Af starts - and will hopefully make it back somewhere between CD2-5 or i will have to have CD3 labs and US done up there and rx called in there as well. so nervous and hesitant to spend so much $ - esp when we have a blessing with our 2.5 yr old. thoughts?

I had ovarian Cyst removed in 2003 and doctor found some endometriosis and cleared it. We did 3 IUIs before we did 2 IVF no succes. We changed our RE and he started me on clomid the first month for clomid challenge test. My FSH came back 9.2 on both day 3 and day 10. I am 30 years old, so he said this was little on the high side. DH did SA and morphology is only 4% normal. RE put me on Femara this month and did IUI again, unfortunately did not get pregnant.

Hello, I am extremelly frustrated at this point of TTC. A year and some ago I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks, followed by a DNC and a chemical pregnancy. In March, i got discovered a fibroid in my uterus and was put on lupron to shrink it. In May i went under Lap and found no fibroid and some endo that the RE took care of. Now, after all this time and my husband's good SA results, both have been checked for blood and chromosomal disorders and we are all clear, we still can't get pregnant!

m in my two week wait to see if both or one of my embryos stuck. And also clomid helped alot and also letrozole which is also know as femara.

Please help me, I dont know what to do. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over 2 years and I am afraid that i may have now ruined all my chances.

Hi! If you were my patient, I would try switching to Letrozole and possibly adding Metformin to your regimen. I would continue with up to five more IUIs. If it hasn't worked by then, I would refer you for IVF. Good luck!

My husband and I have been trying for almost 1 year. I was on Clomid for 6 months and last cycle switched to Letrozole. Now my period is 4 days late and 2 pregnancy tests say NEGATIVE - this is killing me! My OB has told me I will have to take progesterone to bring on my period. Has anyone else had a late period due to Letrozole or had negative PG tests but turned out they were PG? Thank you.

Hello these are really encouraging comments that I am going to share with my dr on friday, I was on clomid before ivf and after 3 cycles it gave me a cyst. we went on to ivf and had 3 failed cycles so now are trying again natuarly.

Hello, have been speaking with my dr regarding my struggle to have a baby after 3 failed ivf's, I am 41 yrs and do no ovulate, before ivf was on clomid and after 3 rounds it gave me a cyst so my dr is reluctant to put me back on this medicine.

it makes me feel like no one has had any success, with letrozole(femara) and thats the fertility med im taking, i put that comment up 1 month ago, and not one person has resoponded. So does it not work.

We have been ttc for 9 months, For the last five, we received ART assistance--2 IUI cycles with Letrozole and 3 cycles with just Lotrozole. We were preparing for our third IUI this week when the news came that my FSH levels were high--21 and my AMH low--.4. We were told that we could do just as well on our own as they could, and that we had a <5% chance of success even with IVF-- in essence sending us home with minimal hope. We were of course devastated.

I have unexplained fertility and started on the works - letrozole pills and Gonal F injectable, then when follicles big enough Ovidrel shot, then IUI then Progesterone pills. This us our first cycle of trying anything and I'm 39. Hope this helps!

They monitored my follicles and lining. I can just hope and pray for now. And ohhh. With my fertility specialist, they will do an iui twice for a cycle. Which is today and tomorrow. My gynae just did my iui once in a cycle.

I did letrozole(femara) with injectibles and it worked first round. My baby is now 10 months.

me and my husband have been trying to concive for 4yrs now and we have been on clomide and letrozole with no success. Recently we have been refered for IVF with ICSI. am really worried about the ICSI part as most evidence report a lot of health problems to the baby. does anyone have any take on this. please help cos i am even thinking of not having it if it means i am gonna subject my child to a lot of health issues.

Have had a laproscopy and cromotubation and tons of blood work and I am perfectly healthy and beyond perfect for conception. Except for the fact that I can't conceive. My husband is perfect also. We've tried clomid for 4mos. and letrozole plus iui last month and tested this morning and got a neg hpt. I'm starting to lose hope. Has anyone else been here??

agree with above post that you are too young. the eggs are there somewhere. good luck. try acupuncture to get the most bang for your buck. and ask your doctor about DHEA. good luck.

It doesnt appear that i have ovulated since trying and cancelling ivf..on sept 8th cancelled ivf due to poor follicle growth..i started period for 4 days sept 30th..then again sept 9th for 6 more days..i have a cysct that is 21/2 inches ..we found out after doing an ultrasond and blood work on wed 13th..has anyone experienced this before? I have never not ovulated and am quite worried bc i wont to try to do ivf again and dont know what is happening to my body..

Has anyone had success with IVF at the Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM)???? I've just had my second failed IUI, first with clomid and then the second with letrozole and am considering skipping the 3rd recommended IUI and going straight to IVF. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like if IUI was going to work, it would have worked by now. I'm sure everyone on here can relate, but I'm just so disappointed and every month that goes by gets worse and worse.

I can tolerate Letrozole and Duphaston without any problems. But Progynova gives me horrible side effects: dizziness, extreme low energy level and anxiety attacks (never had anxiety before). I was just wondering if Progynova can indeed give these side effects and if there are any other drugs that can stimulate the thickening of my uteral lining.

I had an HSG last month (November) and this month my new Dr. put me on Letrozole. I had an appointment and u/s yesterday (CD 14) and they said my follicles were not big enough and to get the Ovidrel shot and that I should "sit out" this month and call my Dr. on Monday to see what she thinks as far as where to go from here. When I was on on Clomid, I didn't ovulate until CD 16 or 17. I don't want to "sit out" this month.

We have been ttc for almost 3 years, had one failed IVF and IUI, and this is our 2nd IUI. All medicated as my hormones arent great. I had an endometrial biopsy taken too in Jan and it showed that I have 8x the normal amount of nk cells (natural killer). I started on clomid along with 3 injections then the trigger shot, and now I am on progesterone pessaries and steroids to try balance out these blasted nk cells! Horrible little things lol.

I seen my obgyn first and he done test on me and my husband, put me on clomid, still nothing. Now i see a fertility doctor and he has put me on letrozole. its a long process. i would call and get a app. with your doctor and have him do test.

Hi. Just to clarify matters: Femara is the brand name of the drug letrozole. Since you've already taken this drug and it has caused you severe joint pain, it's really not advisable for you to be taking it again. In the MA-17 clinical trial, Femara/letrozole was intended to be given for a duration of 5 years after Tamoxifen. However, patients in that study were only treated for an average of two years before the study was unblinded.
