Avatar f tn He has been on a combination of Arava 20 mg ( Hydroxychloroquine) and Plaquenil (Leflunomide) . He has been going severly downhill since January and has lost 40 pounds, has constant mucous drainage that he chokes on especially after meals, and has severe shortness of breath. Can these symptoms be a result of the medications he is taking? Is it safe for him to take two synthetic DMARDS at the same time?
274158 tn?1276347187 Not towards me. Just other dogs......I thought he was showing aggression towards my daughter, but he was just trying to sniff her crotch! He is gross! I guess that's what dogs do! But, no agression towards us humans, just dogs, which isn't fun....
Avatar n tn DOGS CANNOT TAKE DECONGESTANTS!!!! They cannot metabolize them. If your dogs ears are that bad they are in need of antibiotic and antifungals. You can ask your vet to prescribe an antibiotic like cephalexin and an antifungal like fluconazole both which can be called into a walmart in your area and they are on the $4 generic list so it keeps cost down. As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them.
Avatar n tn As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
Avatar m tn Are there painkillers for dogs that are safe? Tramadol caused my 11 year old chow chow Emily to have seizures after two days 4 pills and the Rimadyl side effects I just read here are equally as bad. Both were give to her by her vet of six years. If anyone has any ideas please contact me at ***@****. Thank you.
442658 tn?1563386491 my 41/2 old pup had a hernia repair and spay. she came home with a bottle of tramadols 50mg. i didn t know dogs could take them esp a pup. i don t think she needs them cos she s running around and eating well. i ve had other dogs that have had surgeries and they have never been given pain meds. i just find this strange........
Avatar f tn PLAIN popcorn without butter and salt is an OK snack for dogs, IN MODERATION. A couple of pieces throughout the day as a snack won't hurt him in the least. You don't want to give him popcorn with all the trimmings, though, as it will eventually make him fat, just like it does to us!
Avatar f tn s previous medical records that I like to have titers ran first, before I vaccinate my dogs for other diseases. He told me that I was wise and explained to me that, because of the research and his own personal testing on this, he has started to recommend to patients to check their pet's titer first to make sure that they don't need an unnecessary vaccination. I can only tell you that every time I've done this, my pet's titers were always within normal range.
Avatar f tn Someone asked for suggestions on what to feed itchy dogs/dogs with allergies, though I couldn't find the original question. Anyways, I had suggested grain-free dog foods with limited ingredients, (as most allergic reactions come from food). I just came across another one, by **** Van Patten, "Natural Balance" "Limited Ingredients Diets" which is grain-free and (comes in a purple bag, Sweet Potato & Venison formula).
1388357 tn?1280189493 I have to share this because we hear of so many doctors who don't know about cm/sm... I took my dog to the vet yesterday, and mentioned that because I had surgery, I've been having my daughter bathe the dogs, so I'm not as "hands on" with the dogs as far as noticing any physical changes on them. She asked what kind of surgery, and I explained about chiari and the decompression surgery.
675347 tn?1365460645 Many of us know about all the things that are dangerous for dogs at this time of year. But here's a quick reminder for anyone who is unsure. Remember we get very busy when we have parties, family visits, crazy busy kitchens! Counter-surfing dogs, tempted by wonderful smells, can easily get at something which may poison them, and turn a happy Christmas into an emergency vet visit -or worse, a tragedy.
Avatar f tn Could anyone tell me which company makes the best wheelchair for dogs? I am especially interested in Doggone Wheels and Eddies Wheels. Or if you've had a bad experience with a dog wheelchair company, that would be helpful information as well.
Avatar n tn Hi. Pure coconut oil (must be pure, for dogs) is a useful supplement for dogs. It can be given with food or (warmed slightly) rubbed into skin, particularly where there are patches of irritated skin or hair loss areas. A small amount goes a long way, so be cautious with it. Too much can lead to diarrhea. It is not particularly useful for fleas, though it will help with any irritated skin caused by fleas.
Avatar f tn Can someone please provide me with a safety list of fruits/veggies for dogs. I keep getting hearing mixed information; about broccoli and almonds and more.
97615 tn?1212678589 I just had to put my dog to sleep after having him for 15 years. We have a lil pup that is now lonely. We would like to get one from a rescue. Please let me know if you know of any in PA. Thanks. :) Our local SPCA did not have anything at the moment. We want a female that is on the younger side (since we just lost one) and that is good with teeny kids and other dogs.
675347 tn?1365460645 *Christmas cake. *Mince pies, *Turkey skin. *Chocolate treats. *Onions -or anything which has been cooked with onions, including stuffing. *Alcohol, or anything containing alcohol. *Turkey or chicken bones. These, especially if cooked can cause really serious blockages and internal damage (and expensive) veterinary emergencies. To be on the safe side don't even give dogs raw chicken or turkey bones. Even raw turkey necks or chicken necks can often cause horrible blockages.
Avatar n tn So I have 2 chihuahua dogs. I have had them for 2 years now. They're my babies. They're not convicts or rapists. There's bigger issues out there and my parents refuse to let me keep living in this house because of them. I am 4 months pregnant and I don't know where to go especially with my dogs. Baby daddy isn't an option either. He's out of the picture. And I go to school and don't want to leave it. I don't know what to do. I need advice.
Avatar f tn If you get another dog you may want to consider starting to save in a jar a few dollars a week for emergencies like for a vet. It may be the vet would not have been able to stop the killer, but one always wants to try. Love you kids and be nice to dogs where ever you see them, in memory of your lost dog.
Avatar f tn I agree, better just ask your doctor, he's not going to give you hardly anything for a list my doctor isn't too worried about deli meats, hot dogs, tuna, etc, it's all more or a precaution than it is a strict rule, ya know? You'll be fine!
