Avatar n tn i take the leflunomide (arava) but also take pills for the reflux, which does help. I take renitidine i believe it is called. I found it worked pretty good for the swelling myself. I am also on the Embrel, but still do not have R.A under control. I just wanted to say that the arava was the best drug i have taken up until i was put on the embrel. I live in B.

Avatar f tn He has been on a combination of Arava 20 mg ( Hydroxychloroquine) and Plaquenil (Leflunomide) . He has been going severly downhill since January and has lost 40 pounds, has constant mucous drainage that he chokes on especially after meals, and has severe shortness of breath. Can these symptoms be a result of the medications he is taking? Is it safe for him to take two synthetic DMARDS at the same time?
Avatar f tn Though non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAID) and steroids are the gold standard of treatment, more emphasis should be laid on physical and occupational therapy, rest, heat pads and use of assistive devices for walking. Biological response modifiers like etanercept, leflunomide (used less often), adalimumab, or infliximab can be added in consultation with doctor.

Avatar m tn At the age of 33, one day I was fine, healthy etc. Went to bed and the next morning woke up with excruciating pain deep inside my r/knee area. Couldn't get out of bed or walk. That was the start of my (disease)? Went to an orthopedist. Got cortisone injection, gave me anti-inflammatories, sent me home told me to rest. Pain never went away, but it subsided a bit. Pain flared up again after about a month, ortho referred me to rheumatologist. More anit-inflammatories for a while.

256161 tn?1196879046 0) I was wondering if anyone here has taken Arava (Leflunomide) and their side effects? I started it almost 3 weeks ago for the RA and Sjogrens and have started to have nausea, hair loss, skin sensitivity, burning or tingling of skin, and restless legs (already had, but much worse now), vivid dreams, and torso pain like a cramping sensation in back and sides. I have read too much bad stuff about this medicine and I am hoping someone has had a good experience with it.

198419 tn?1360242356 Aubagio (pronounced oh-BAH-gee-oh) is a novel oral compound that inhibits the function of specific immune cells that have been implicated in MS. It is related to leflunomide, a drug used to treat arthritis. Aubagio can inhibit a key enzyme required by white blood cells (lymphocytes), reducing the proliferation of T and B immune cells active in MS and also inhibiting the production of immune messenger chemicals by T cells.

482543 tn?1248355421 BTW,about the steroid therapy, maybe if it turned out to be an auto-immune disease ,steroids are not the only cure...there are other types of medications called ;Diseasde modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs "DMARDs" which have the required effects of steroids but only they work SLOWER and they don't have the same side effects as steroids, examples for these medications are ; methotrexate injections , sulfasalazine, hydroquin, leflunomide..etc..
Avatar f tn Cymbalta, Ozempic, and Leflunomide. This combo gave me the most relief I have ever had. But she also had been making charting/medical record inaccuracies for years. Literal. Years. SO MANY THINGS she charted as diagnosed with no supporting evidence or even telling me. Then she made several errors in ordering lab work for me. I had to go have blood drawn 3 times in 2 weeks for the things she said she wanted to look at...AFTER I called 6 times trying to straighten it all out.
Avatar f tn Within 30 minutes I had 102 fever, severe chills/body aches, so that drug is out. Now he switched me to Arava (Leflunomide). My question is what serious side effects have people had with this one and especially with people who have bad gastro issues. thanks, I know that the doctors hands are tied a lot of times by the insurance companies on what they can prescribe and when.
