Latanoprost treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Latanoprost treatment

xalatan

Avatar n tn It began to increase. We consulted an ophthalmologist. He told there is no treatment for this. My father has vision in the left eye though alittle unclear. He asked the doctor whether we can make that one eye vision strong enough so that reading and driving is possible. The doctor suggest there is no treatment for this. Is this true? Please suggest.
Avatar n tn Good afternoon Dr Hagen Will I escape corneal damage/disease if I use Zioptan rather than latanoprost? Will there also be less irritation? (My insurance will pay 80% of the cost, so it is affordable for me). Are there are disadvantages to using it?
Avatar f tn Studies done over the last 15 years especially in the last 5 CLEARLY SHOW THAT THE INITIAL TREATMENT FOR OPEN ANGLE GLAUCOMA SHOULD BE LASER (SELECTIVE LASER TRABECULOPLASTY OR SLT) NOT EYE DROPS. So if you need treatment, especially at your age you need SLT not latanoprost. BE SURE YOUR OPHTHALMOLOGIST KNOWS HOW TO DO A SLT, IF NOT ASK TO BE REFERRED TO ONE THAT DOES. 2. The clear dot you see in the morning when you wake up has been discussed here many, many times.
Avatar n tn The Early Glaucoma Treatment Study showed that beginning treatment early is better at 5 years than waiting till definite damage.
6218685 tn?1379633270 I was misdiagnosed as having pressure in my eyes and was given Latanoprost eye drops which I used for 5 days and my intuition told me to stop it and get a second and third opinion which I did. I then found out I did not need to be on Latanoprost and my eye pressure was normal. I am only 45 and never had a problem with dark circles under my eyes which developed two days after I started using the eye drops.
Avatar f tn There should be significant visual recovery after a week and by one month it should be pretty well healed. My doctors do not like to use latanoprost after cataract surgery because it may increase the incidence of CME (macular edema). Dr. O.

Avatar m tn I have NPG for 14 years, (18 pre treatment pressure). RE no damage, LE OCT scans show 1 area or damage, moderate diagnosis. For 12 years I was stable on latanoprost. Last 2 years pressure keeps rising, tried different drops, ALT, recently cataract and stent surgery. I am 66, with another 20 years or so to live, wondering long term prognosis for disease today? Most studies I found were older, and indicated 10% risk of blindness.

Avatar m tn thnaks , so l have no reason to be discouraged yet , the next reading on a different day or time of day could be my target pressure of 15 and if after several readings over the next month its lower then 20 then its a success
Avatar m tn Since you have recently had surgery we feel you need to ask the surgeon about this. This is a generalization. Trouble opening the eyes in the morning often means they are drying out during sleep. Don't sleep under fan or have air blowing across eye. latanoprost often dries eyes out during sleep. You can ask your doctor about this. We have our patients put latanoprost or their glaucoma drop in about 30 minutes before they go to bed.
514349 tn?1272801633 Lately I've had very hard and difficult to pass stools. My diet and activity level haven't had any major changes or has my medications except that I am now using Latanoprost eye drops once a day. I tried using Docusate and Smooth Move senna tea for relief, but they didn't make any difference.
Avatar f tn I paid $250 for a medication I usually pay $40 for and on checking that was the reason. There is a generic latanoprost but its not as strong or as long acting.
Avatar m tn My father is a diabetic patient from the age of 36 and has undergone catract operation in the year of 48 int he left eye and after lazer treatment the left eye does not have any vision now does not have any idea why it happened. Then my dad undergone catract treatment in the right eye and after that he came to knw that he has got glaucoma and after consulting different doctors he found that he is suffering from retinopathy....
Avatar f tn Diagnosised as open-angle glaucoma. I use latanoprost drops which successfully control the pressure. (Last measured at 13 to 14) My opthalmologist has said that lens replacement may alleviate the pressure. I would not need to use the eye drops afterwards. What is your opionion? Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn Dorzolamide HCl/Timolol Maleate and 2: Latanoprost . These are all Ophthalmic solutions. Can the cataract surgery itself, or, the eye drop drugs I am taking as listed above, cause dry eye?..and if so, what would you recommend I take, if anything, to prevent this. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with glaucoma in both eyes and prescribed eye drops to take 3x daily for the rest of my life. These eye drops are 1) Latanoprost and 2) Dorzolamide/timolol. A few weeks after taking these eye drops I notice a large rise in blood pressure (top and bottom numbers)..with my bottom number around 100. Can this be caused by the eye drop medicine?
Avatar n tn Now on blue cap drops 2x/pd, beta blocker 2x/pd, and Latanoprost before bed time. Worried and not sure how to take this????????
Avatar m tn I want to take meds if needed - Latanoprost was prescribed but I want to know what the group thinks of this as a 1st line drug. Re: the lid – I want to take the tests again - with the lid positioned to keep my eye more open. The OCT was a nightmare - they keep taking it over and over and over – even cleaning the lens on the machine& asking me to open my eye more – etc. This is the eye that the OCT showed such a drop in.
Avatar f tn If you are not on latanoprost or Lumigan or Travatan Z they would be good alternatives also your eye doctor should have discussed glaucoma laser therapy. sometimes laser can be used and you don't need any eye drops. Please act on this.
Avatar f tn Also hopefully your eye doctor is an Eye MD ophthalmologist. There are are other drops that can be used if you do indeed have glaucoma or laser treatment can be used if you see an Eye MD ophthalmologist.
17644146 tn?1458782868 Moreover recent studies done on latanoprost the most common used generic glaucoma drops in the world, manufactured by over 25 companies found some where underfilled, some dispensed drops too large so that the medication would not last the theoretical length of time. i.e. instead of lasting 6 weeks it would only last 5 even if none were spilled or wasted.
17644146 tn?1458782868 No problem. That is the brand name for latanoprost which is the most widely used glaucoma medication in the world. It is fine to store at room temperature and not refrigerated just avoid freezing and extremes of heat.
Avatar f tn I'm a 61 yr. old female and I have annual eye exams at my optometrist office. I've had excellent care there. They diagnosed a retinal tear several years ago and referred me to Ophthalmologist for laser treatment. This year's exam showed my IOP, which has usually been 18-19, was 25 in both eyes; optic nerve stable. Last week I had it checked again and it was 22-24. Optometrist suggested I go to Ophthalmologist for baseline and then just keep annual appts.
Avatar m tn also some people are born with an extra row of eyelashes this is called distachiasis , also some medications notably the glaucoma medicines latanoprost, lumigan and travitan-z causes eyelashs to grow exuberantly lastly small tumors on the eye or eyelid called dermoids can grown hairs. Trauma to the eyelid can cause lashes to grow the wrong way.
Avatar m tn Ask also about laser treatment (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty or SLT) to see if the travapost might be stopped. SLT is used extremely often now as a superior substitute for drops.
12845664 tn?1427483649 Still though Lumigan is more irritating for most people than latanoprost and Travatan Z. You should also look at how much money you save. Many of the new generics are not that much less expensive than the brand name. Thus you are more likely to have irritated symptoms with the generic than the brand name.
Avatar m tn The paradigm for treating glaucoma has changed world wide over the past 15 years. Now the preferred initial treatment is SLT and if that doesn't work then go to drops. So I would recommend you have SLT. The chance of complications with an experienced opthalmologist is very very low. The biggest risk is that it doesn't lower the IOP or that IOP goes down but still need some drops.
