I then found out I did not need to be on Latanoprost and my eye pressure was normal. I am only 45 and never had a problem with dark circles under my eyes which developed two days after I started using the eye drops.

There should be significant visual recovery after a week and by one month it should be pretty well healed. My doctors do not like to use latanoprost after cataract surgery because it may increase the incidence of CME (macular edema). Dr. O.

Good afternoon Dr Hagen Will I escape corneal damage/disease if I use Zioptan rather than latanoprost? Will there also be less irritation? (My insurance will pay 80% of the cost, so it is affordable for me). Are there are disadvantages to using it?

They said that my cornea is really thick and my optic nerves are oddly shaped, but there is nothing to worry about at this time. I was prescribed latanoprost which I took and my eye pressure had decreased as it should at my follow up visit in January. Since then, I have undergone some heart testing due to having palpitations and I ended up going off of the latanoprost, with permission from my doctor. I haven't noticed a large difference in my eyes until recently.

Since you have recently had surgery we feel you need to ask the surgeon about this. This is a generalization. Trouble opening the eyes in the morning often means they are drying out during sleep. Don't sleep under fan or have air blowing across eye. latanoprost often dries eyes out during sleep. You can ask your doctor about this. We have our patients put latanoprost or their glaucoma drop in about 30 minutes before they go to bed.

Lately I've had very hard and difficult to pass stools. My diet and activity level haven't had any major changes or has my medications except that I am now using Latanoprost eye drops once a day. I tried using Docusate and Smooth Move senna tea for relief, but they didn't make any difference.

OK, great! You've removed the doubt. I am a worrywart. She also said it was up to me whether to start latanoprost. My IOP was 19/21, which she said wasn't that high but the low nocturnal dips in my BP were concerning. And also the suspicious nerves. So I guess I ought to take the drops ...

I paid $250 for a medication I usually pay $40 for and on checking that was the reason. There is a generic latanoprost but its not as strong or as long acting.

Diagnosised as open-angle glaucoma. I use latanoprost drops which successfully control the pressure. (Last measured at 13 to 14) My opthalmologist has said that lens replacement may alleviate the pressure. I would not need to use the eye drops afterwards. What is your opionion? I was recently diagnosed with glaucoma in both eyes and prescribed eye drops to take 3x daily for the rest of my life.These eye drops are 1) Latanoprost and 2) Dorzolamide/timolol. A few weeks after taking these eye drops I notice a large rise in blood pressure (top and bottom numbers)..with my bottom number around 100. Can this be caused by the eye drop medicine?

RE no damage, LE OCT scans show 1 area or damage, moderate diagnosis. For 12 years I was stable on latanoprost. Last 2 years pressure keeps rising, tried different drops, ALT, recently cataract and stent surgery. I am 66, with another 20 years or so to live, wondering long term prognosis for disease today? Most studies I found were older, and indicated 10% risk of blindness.

t good, my ophthalmologist told me I may have to add another eye drop (I take latanoprost and dorzolamide+timolol now) or try SLT. IOP readings the last few years of 18 or less. However since my right eye glaucoma may have been due to an eye trauma from 40 years ago might that reduce the chance of SLT success?

Now on blue cap drops 2x/pd, beta blocker 2x/pd, and Latanoprost before bed time. Worried and not sure how to take this????????

If you are not on latanoprost or Lumigan or Travatan Z they would be good alternatives also your eye doctor should have discussed glaucoma laser therapy. sometimes laser can be used and you don't need any eye drops. Please act on this.

Moreover recent studies done on latanoprost the most common used generic glaucoma drops in the world, manufactured by over 25 companies found some where underfilled, some dispensed drops too large so that the medication would not last the theoretical length of time. i.e. instead of lasting 6 weeks it would only last 5 even if none were spilled or wasted.

No problem. That is the brand name for latanoprost which is the most widely used glaucoma medication in the world. It is fine to store at room temperature and not refrigerated just avoid freezing and extremes of heat.

also some people are born with an extra row of eyelashes this is called distachiasis , also some medications notably the glaucoma medicines latanoprost, lumigan and travitan-z causes eyelashs to grow exuberantly lastly small tumors on the eye or eyelid called dermoids can grown hairs. Trauma to the eyelid can cause lashes to grow the wrong way.

Still though Lumigan is more irritating for most people than latanoprost and Travatan Z. You should also look at how much money you save. Many of the new generics are not that much less expensive than the brand name. Thus you are more likely to have irritated symptoms with the generic than the brand name.

Dorzolamide HCl/Timolol Maleate and 2: Latanoprost . These are all Ophthalmic solutions. Can the cataract surgery itself, or, the eye drop drugs I am taking as listed above, cause dry eye?..and if so, what would you recommend I take, if anything, to prevent this. Thanks.

I want to take meds if needed - Latanoprost was prescribed but I want to know what the group thinks of this as a 1st line drug. Re: the lid – I want to take the tests again - with the lid positioned to keep my eye more open. The OCT was a nightmare - they keep taking it over and over and over – even cleaning the lens on the machine& asking me to open my eye more – etc. This is the eye that the OCT showed such a drop in.

Now, due to emergency surgery (see cataract thread) she is back on the drops. She is also on dorzolamide drops and latanoprost drops which neither the regular vet or the ophthalmologist thinks could cause this. I don't think it is a sudden worsening of the spay incontinence because of the drinking. Also, she is not leaking, when she goes it's a flood. Either when I don't let her out quite often enough or when she is deeply asleep. Any brilliant ideas?

Alphagan is less expensive than Alphagan P. The difference is the preservative that is less irritating to some people with the "P" type. The IOP lowering capacity is the same. Xalatan (latanoprost) is often NOT used after intraocular surgery as it may increase inflammation and swelling in the macula. Home tonometry doesn't work for most people (scratched corneas, inaccurate readings, excess anxiety) discuss with the glaucoma specialist.

yes the elevated pressure in the eye is treated with glaucoma drops like travoprost and timolol drops,combigan,hypersol-5 solution and latanoprost ophthalmic solution......instead of all this the pressure in the eye goes up at an interval of 3-4 months approximately.

Heart arrhythmia including PVCs is not likely due to Lumigan or the two other medications in that family (Travatan-Z and latanoprost). They are not listed in the drug prescribing literature. I have several thousand patients on these medication and only have one patient in many years that complained of heart beat problems HOWEVER when we changed to a different type of medication (different class of glaucoma medications at present there are 4 classes) the problem stopped.

Travaprost has preservatives and maybe BAK. They do make a preservative free drug in the same family (Latanoprost), in the US it is sold under name Zioptin. It can be expensive for some insurance plans. Another option would be to put the travaprost in 15-30 minutes before bedtime and at bedtime put an overnight lubricant in like: Refresh PM or other GEL lubricant.
