Avatar m tn Hello, Laser treatment is thought to treat a fungal nail infection that's particularly stubborn. The laser emits high doses of light energy, which are used to destroy the fungus. However, there's currently little evidence to show that laser treatment provides a long-term cure, as most studies only follow patients up for a period of three months.
Avatar n tn ewww... i noticed they can do laser treatment that kills the fungus and depending on how bad it is you might need to go twice...also the home remedy of white vinegar 50% vinegar and 50% water...soak 3 times a day has helped people.. also drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water helps fight it from the inside out... so i have heard... it doesn't hurt to give it a try but you have to be consistant and it takes a couple of weeks to notice it so don't get discuraged...
Avatar m tn There are different ways to treat this infection, but recent studies suggest that using both topical and oral anti fungal medications at same time yields better result. There are also centers that offer laser treatment of intractable fungal infection, although it is as effective as giving oral anti fungal medication, but without the usual side effects of the antifungal pill. It is better that you be seen by a dermatologist so that your problem be accurately addressed.
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.

Avatar n tn Then went on line to a vitamin store and bought three different treatmnts for toe nail fungus. The one thing I used 2-3 times a day was nail repair tea tree oil and I bought oreagano oil caps and opened one of themand put the oil in the nail repair. It worked really well. I have been able to keep it under control. I use this 1 -2 times everyday! I apply it after every shower.
Avatar m tn Fungal infection in toe nail needs long term treatment. The nail is the most difficult from where the fungus can be eradicated. You need take anti fungal tablet for at least 9-12 months. The entire nail plate takes 9-12 months to be replaced so you need to take this tablet for long time. No topical drugs only will be effective. Please talk to your physician for this. Wishing you good health.
Avatar n tn You are describing states of nail fungus actually. What works well is pure tea tree oil. It smells strong, but it works well. If any part of the nail has separated from the skin, as often happens, cut that part of the nail off. Even if it has not yet separated, cut the nail as short as you can without injuring yourself. Then apply the tea tree oil twice a day to ALL your nails. Wash socks and underwear in hot water with baking soda .Keep your feet clean and dry.
Avatar m tn You can apply duct tapes on the wart and if it still persists then you can get it treated by laser. Carbon dioxide laser treatment had a cure rate of 57.4%. It was proven to be better than Cryotherapy and Electrocautery treatment. Although CO2 laser treatment is effective in eradicating sumbungual and periungual warts, recurrences still occur within 3 months of vaporization. Please consult a dermatologist and discuss these treatment options with him. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it looks like fungal nail infection or trauma skin. An infection of nail fungus occurs when fungi infect one or more of your nails. Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeated infections are common. Over-the-counter antifungal nail creams and ointments are available, but they aren't very effective. You need to get a KOH examination and fungal culture of the nail scrapings done and then oral antifungals prescribed.

1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
