Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis from a cold

laryngitis

Avatar f tn I just finished taking Azithromycin yesterday for what must of been a bacterial infection of my sinuses and lungs. It started as a cold. The cold went away but I was experiencing shortness of breath and post nasal drip that just wasn't subsiding. I went to two doctors. The first doctor prescribed a corticosteroid nasal spray (Omnaris). This helped a bit for the post nasal drip but wasn't addressing the shortness of breath or chronic cough that wasn't going away on its own.
Avatar f tn I have had a chest, sinus cold going on four weeks now with intermittent laryngitis. I have been on a course of Levaquin 2 weeks ago and am still sick. Prior to this cold I had another cold and was on a Z pac, can't seem to get any better... Never had a fever, just productive cough raising green phlegm.. Should I be working about my immune system at this point?
Avatar f tn I'm 24 weeks and I have a bad cold and cough. What medicine was ok for u to take or have u taken while pregnant that will not hurt the baby?????
Avatar m tn Next day I got mouth infection ( just soar throat no fever no flu symptoms) and doctor (ENT) suggested some antibiotics, after which I was feeling OK in a day. I thought it was a strep and asked for a swab test. Couple days later doctor confirmed its nothing. I had tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) before I had sex with her. Later I took the girl to the blood test for which she was tested positve for HSV1 and she was having cold sores on her face. she was tested negative for HSV2.
Avatar n tn this makes the 3rd time since my surgery that I have been sick for a week straight with a high fever. I was pretty healthy before and other then the occasional cold, rarely got sick. Has anyone else who has had a TT found that their immune system is not what it once was. Any tips, or suggestions on boosting my immune system?
Avatar f tn the itchiness from healing tissues that have been damaged from a bout of laryngitis or rhinovirus. Just like a scab becomes pruritic as tissue is regrown, the same sensation can occur in the esophagus, trachea and larynx. That's the tickle she is referring to, and is a normal process of healing and can be incredibly irritating, causing an almost uncontrollable bronchiospasm.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to a post nasal drip, which can cause a chronic irritation in the throat. This could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications.
Avatar f tn m wondering if there is anything that I can to to prevent getting sick. It as if I get it as soon as someone with as much as a cold walks by! Help! I'm tired of being sick and I know that being on antibiotics this much is not good!
3120463 tn?1342056817 It sounds like a cold, I would give it until Monday. Colds are normally viruses, so there's not much they could do for you. The only exception is if it moves into your lungs or if you have a fever that lasts longer than 3 days. For the lungs, if you take a deep breath and your chest hurts, or if you wheeze when you breath, then definitely see a doctor as sometimes colds develop into bronchitis or pneumonia. The ear thing is your sinus cavities being plugged.
Avatar f tn I had a bad cold and then got laryngitis. That lasted 3 weeks and then the 4th week my voice came back but still hoarse. I have pain on my left side of my neck and tenderness on that side when I swallow. Dr checked me out and said throat is not red and gave me pills for acid reflux. It's been 4 days and don't think its acid reflux....voice and neck still the same. Anyone know what it could be ??

Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar f tn At the beginning of this month I believe I strained or damaged my voice from long hours of singing. My throat felt fatigued and I had tension in my neck. Hoarse voice etc etc. I also ended up with a popping/thumping feeling in my throat that happened every time I swallowed except when I was eating or drinking. The best way I can describe the feeling is try and imagine the sensation and pressure of cracking the knuckle of your middle finger and imagining that exact feeling in your throat.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar m tn I'm a 21 year old male. Four weeks ago, I came down with what seemed to be a cold. I experienced congestion, cough, and laryngitis a day or two after exposure to large amounts of hay and agricultural lime. Taking this into consideration, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not it was a cold or just an alergic reaction. The symptoms have drastically decreased.
Avatar m tn 3 days later laryngitis is getting better but now I got a small fever. My usual daily temperature is between 97.9 and 98.6 (with average being 98.2-98.4) On the 13th day my temperature is somewhere between 99.2 and 99.8 for about 3 hours since I woke up. Here are my questions: 1. what are my risks for the following: a. HIV b. Syphilis c. Herpes d. Chlamydia e. Gonorrhea f. HPV 2. Can my sore throat be an indicator of any of the above? 3.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
Avatar f tn It lasted about a week or two. It was at the height of my symptoms. I was not sick with a cold or anything. All my symptoms were neurological. I also was diagnosed with ON and EXTREMELY fatigued. I couldn't hold a chair, my hair dryer and when I took a shower I had to lay on my bed for nearly 45 minutes until I felt better. Hope you feel better soon. I still have a lot of residual issues and some new symptoms. My "meltdown" started in October, the worst in early/mid November.
Avatar f tn i am struggling with the simple things like doing washing up and staying awake at college. this all started off with a cold and sore throat. i was diagnosed with tonsillitis and then laryngitis and have had antibiotics for this but its still there over 9 weeks now?! its a bit of a mystery i was wondering if you could help!?!
Avatar m tn HIV symptoms last only 1-2 weeks but symptoms are no reliable HIV indicators, so go test now.
Avatar f tn If someone should have an active cold sore on their lip and touches their runny nose while out on a cold day skiing then uses a pen to write and you use the pen just a minute or less after them, what's the likelihood of getting HSV-1. Does it lives in nasal mucus and saliva? Just to caveat this person with the lesion on their mouth did not wash their hands before using the pen and then the pen was used by another within a minute or two.
Avatar f tn Had what I thought was a cold but has not progressed from the sore throat/laryngitis phase. Now not sure if it's that or something more serious. I do have a growth on the left side of my throat near my tonsil--it has been there for four years and has been checked out several times.
Avatar f tn My symptoms initially began as a cold with chest congestion, extreme throat pain, fatigue, and a fever for the first two days. Almost all of those symptoms went away within one week and now I'm left with the sore throat. I also have post nasal drip so I'm wondering if this is causing the pain. The pain seems to get worse in the evening or in cold temperatures. It hurts to talk also.
Avatar m tn Do you have deviated nasal septum or sinusitis? Chronic discharge from sinuses drain out constantly in throat, causing sticky throat. Treatment is anti histamincs, decongestants along with antibiotics. Try steam inhalation along with ambroxol. For laryngitis, usually steriods are prescribed but best is to consult ENT surgeon. Indirect laryngoscopy is done to see larynx condition.
