Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis and the common cold

laryngitis

Avatar f tn I just finished taking Azithromycin yesterday for what must of been a bacterial infection of my sinuses and lungs. It started as a cold. The cold went away but I was experiencing shortness of breath and post nasal drip that just wasn't subsiding. I went to two doctors. The first doctor prescribed a corticosteroid nasal spray (Omnaris). This helped a bit for the post nasal drip but wasn't addressing the shortness of breath or chronic cough that wasn't going away on its own.
Avatar f tn I have been on a course of Levaquin 2 weeks ago and am still sick. Prior to this cold I had another cold and was on a Z pac, can't seem to get any better... Never had a fever, just productive cough raising green phlegm.. Should I be working about my immune system at this point?
Avatar m tn If you had an exposure then test. You can't diagnosis HIV from symptoms. What Dr on this site said your above statement?

Avatar n tn I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
Avatar f tn Almost every cold medicine has the warning that it may cause drowsiness and not to drive while taking them .. So the tiredness could be from the meds. Or the more common explanation that with an infection, our body temp goes up, which will cause a mini-pseudo relapse. the good news is no matter which one is the cause, the problem should improve once you stop the meds and feel better.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
12505673 tn?1427155998 When I was pregnant with my son the same thing happened to me. My Dr suggested the following and surprisingly it did help. Cut a red onion in half and bring to a boil. While boiling inhale the steam for nasal congestion relief for 5 to 10 minutes. Stain water into a cup with lemon and honey and drink. It's not pleasant but it really breaks everything up and the antioxidants in the onion and honey really boost your immune system.
11824068 tn?1421360161 Can a common cold cause me to have a miscarriage? My bf is sick and his roommate said that if i get sick im killing the baby. Is this true?
Avatar n tn I think if you have COPD that is a issue all by itself, the common cold could make this seem like your having more trouble breathing, and with secretions, your airway isnt as clear as usual, but even someone without COPD, feels like crap when they have a cold. This doesnt effect their lung function and it doesnt your either. It might take a COPD pt longer to recover from most common colds, but after you knock it your lungs shouldnt be any worse than they were vefore you got the cold.

Avatar n tn Hi, im 21 weeks pregnant and im coming down with a bad cold. Are there any safe medicines I can take while im pregnant? Or common home remedies, please help !
Avatar f tn My symptoms initially began as a cold with chest congestion, extreme throat pain, fatigue, and a fever for the first two days. Almost all of those symptoms went away within one week and now I'm left with the sore throat. I also have post nasal drip so I'm wondering if this is causing the pain. The pain seems to get worse in the evening or in cold temperatures. It hurts to talk also.

Avatar f tn I'm 24 weeks and I have a bad cold and cough. What medicine was ok for u to take or have u taken while pregnant that will not hurt the baby?????
Avatar m tn I can only speak from experience. If I'm sick (with anything), my heart will act up more than usual (I have various arrhythmias, none life threatening). If the weather is extremely cold (in our area that would be in the teens or 20's), then my heart acts up with a bit more erratic heart beat and some chest pain. I had that recently when we had a cold snap. Now that we're back up in the 40's, I'm fine.
Avatar f tn I had a bad cold and then got laryngitis. That lasted 3 weeks and then the 4th week my voice came back but still hoarse. I have pain on my left side of my neck and tenderness on that side when I swallow. Dr checked me out and said throat is not red and gave me pills for acid reflux. It's been 4 days and don't think its acid reflux....voice and neck still the same. Anyone know what it could be ??
