Avatar n tn I have to pay for the insulin myself, is there any help out there to pay for Lantus SoloStar for those who don't have prescription insurance?
Avatar n tn I have weened myself off Lantus Solostar insulin and have not taken it for months. I got my A1C's down from 12.2 to 6.9 in 3 months and normal BS every day. Ate healthy.. Well I have been very bad again and I went to lunch and had fried seafood and then a sundae at Dairy Queen. Mouth very dry and thirsty as anything. Checked my blood Sugar and it was 459. I took my Metformin early to try and bring it down. Can I take maybe 10 units of the Lantus to try and bring it down a little more?
Avatar f tn I seemed to be gaining a lot of weight since being on Lantus for the last two years as well I have mood swings and irritability and now started having severe lows right after injecting the Lantus (it usually happens if I bleed after my shot and has happened since switching to the Solostar disposable pen needle. Anyone else have any bad reactions to the Lantus.
Avatar n tn I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen. I also noticed with Lantus I get hungary allot but I do not give into the temptation of eating and I only eat twice a day but a heck of lot less then I had in the past. Will levemiere insulin get rid of that hungar pain and can I just use it like I use the lantus by taking 36 Units at night???.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have recently started using Lantus Solostar and have gained weight. I eat very sensibly and very rarely do I have carbs (mostly salads). I use Novorapid as my quick acting and have low doses of that (10, 6, 8) and 16 Lantus. I have been type 1 diabteic for 26 years (since I was 5) and have not had problems with my weight but in the last 6 weeks have gained 5.1kg I am very active and am finding this hard to deal with.
Avatar f tn (stent placement) I am currently taking Metformin 1000 mg x 2 twice daily, plus Lantus Solostar, 27 units. When I began the insulin, my blood glucose was over 400! Now it is down between 200 - 230 in the morning. They want to put me on a different type of insulin to take with meals. I don't want to do that. Is there anything I can do to lower my blood sugar naturally without taking more insulin?
Avatar n tn And as for the sweats about a half hour after taking Lantus, there IS a slight peak action with Lantus, although this peak action for most people is several hours after taking the Lantus. In my case, I usually take my Lantus at about 6 am, and I notice a peak that causes my glucose levels to drop by about 8 am. This happens even if I have not taken any Novolog or eaten breakfast (sometimes I wait until I get to work to take Novolog and eat breakfast), so it has to be the Lantus peaking.
Avatar n tn Our lifestyles are different, and our split doses of Lantus are different. In my case, I need most of my Lantus in the morning and only 2 units at night to see me through the night. My twin on the other hand, splits her dosage more half and half. And yes, I agree that there is a peak in the action of Lantus somewhere between 4-5 hours, usually. Some people notice it more than others. I notice it a great deal and have to feed it when it happens.
915277 tn?1252573113 Anyone out there on Lantus, and have you heard about this and will you stop using Lantus due to this news?? What bothers me about this news is that the study seems a bit shaky...but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
Avatar n tn No, I am not aware of any people who have contacted us with any kind of resistance to Lantus. I do know that Lantus must be replaced at the end of a month on one bottle. The expiration date is really important, for near the end of the month, some of us find that it no longer crystallizes properly. Some people notice that when the Lantus bottle is about one month old, it doesn't work well. But if you just started the bottle, this is probably not the problem.
Avatar n tn Our doctor recently suggested that our 9-year old start using Lantus in the evenings in addition to her Novolog bolus for meals. She has gained 5 lbs in the past few weeks. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Avatar m tn Iam type 2 diabetic for app. 8 years. I have been taking LANTUS for app. 4 months now. For the last three months i have been experiencing swelling/pain of my hands, then foresrms, and now my shoulders and neck.My "doctor" seems to be oblivious to these issues. I have met two other people that had this issue and both stopped using LANTUS and the swelling/pain is going away. Has this side effect been reported before??
Avatar n tn For some, the split is about 50 percent in the morning and 50 percent in the evening, but in my own case, I take about 80 percent of my Lantus in the morning and 20 percent at night before bedtime. Again, each person is different, and the endocrinologist usually works with us to develop the right split of the dosage if it is felt that doing this is the best way to avoid high levels on a regular basis in the mornings.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am T1 since Oct 2004, and switched to Lantus in Feb. Most of my BG numbers are very good (A1Cs 6.0 and 5.5), but since switching to Lantus, I have experienced 5 episodes of sudden and extreme drops in BG. They happen late morning, not related to breakfast, novolog dose or exercise. My BG is usually above 150 when it starts, and I must consume 150-200 grams of carbs (as juice or gel) to get it to stabilize, usually in 20-30 mins.
Avatar n tn I am on lantus and the Novolog pen. I know when I first started lantus I got very anxious and before I had to take it, just in a dead panic. I can not fully answer your question, but I need your help. Can you ask your daughter if her lantus burns, itches, and/or does the area she injects it (arm, leg, stomach) feel heavy or like a big knot is under it?
Avatar n tn This is a wonderful resource for Type I's...often a minority in support groups, IMHO. My first posting to the forum although I've been type I since age 7...now a healthy 45 year old (female). I am mostly happy with the current combination of Humalog Pen and Lantus. My questions are in regards to Lantus: I understand the "non-peak" aspect...but personally dropped very low in early a.m.'s (about 4-6 a.m) after injecting on a regular basis at 10 p.m.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 17 and is having trouble with adjusting insulin doses...how much lantus would be a good dose to start with?
Avatar n tn I did not start any other meds with the Lantus. I also became proactive last night and stopped the Lantus. I went back to my NovoRapid, Novolin NPH routine. Will see how I feel in a couple of days. Today went well. I want to find out before discussion with the dr. if this could be the problem, otherwise they will have nothing to compare it to because as I am finding out there are many different reactions as there are people.
Avatar n tn t happened in so long that I cannot remember what the formula is to calculate the lantus. I do remember that prior to going on the pump, her endocrinologist switched her lantus shot from AM to PM as her morning bg's were higher than they wanted them. You should discuss this possibility with your endo along with your thoughts of splitting the dose, however I have never heard of this as an option. I gather from your post that you are not getting much assistance from the nurse practitioner.
Avatar n tn Since then he has been on many differnet variation of meds. Just over the past 6 months or so, they gave him LANTUS, in addition to his meds. (Actos, Glypizide, Metaformin) He takes the meds in the morning and the LANTUS at night. Here is my problem. He has a lot of highs and lows. Just 3 weeks ago, his average was 115. This week a different story. He has been in the mid 200's and he has not changed his diet. This morning, before breakfast, his sugar was 337.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a 28 year old male Type 1 Diabetic with an A1C of 108/6.0, and am on 20 units of Lantus a day, and take a ratio of 5g carbs per 1 unit of NovoRapid. I am at my wits end about how to control my sugar levels once I go to bed. Throughout the day my sugars are fine. I used to be fussy about the "dawn phenomenon" and why my morning sugar levels were so high (ie.
Avatar f tn I have been on lantus since about 2003, and in 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I ve just been reading how lantus may cause cancer . im afraid the lantus may have caused this. did anyone else have anything like this happen? as well im type1 diabetic and my bloodsugers are really up and down all the time and i take a split dose of lantus. my suger will drop and stay down all day or for hours!
Avatar n tn I have noticed that no matter what I do the lantus stings after I inject it before I go to bed. Is this common? Is there any tricks anyone has learned that has helped them?
Avatar f tn I am a type 1A diabetic with normal insulin sensitivity and predictable bg responses to insulin doses. Until now. I went on a reducing diet (high protein, next to 0 carbs, increased exercise) but never decreased my once daily PM dose of Lantus (10 units.) Immediately my AM bg's jumped to over 200 and stayed there. No hypoglycemia during sleep (I never woke up, anyway.)I could bring my daily bg's down with my shortacting insulin.
Avatar f tn Page 1 of 269 for: I'm taking 32-40 units of lantus a day. My A1C is 6.7. Why would I be given a pill instead of short acting insulin if the lantus has proven to work so well? ive tried numerous pills for diabetes over the past 20 years. Efficacy never enough- so we tried lantus.
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
Avatar n tn I switched to Lantus/Humalog about six weeks ago, and I will be the first one to stand up and say that the fine tuning of the doseage takes time and patience. I learned during the first week that 1) in my case Lantus only lasts about 18 hours, 2) it has a definite peak for me at about 5 hours after injection. And I also learned that for me an unrefrigerated vial keeps its full strength for about two weeks, so it's now in the refrig between injections.
