Lantus patient assistance

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus patient assistance

lantus

Avatar f tn That being said, I cannot concieve of any physician prescribing Lantus without the patient being given a precise and thorough explanation of how much to use and when. There is a BIG missing piece here. There are many excellent programs set up to monitor diabetics and keep them on the right track. Some are run by nurses or nurse practicioners. There are weekly meetings and they call you on the telephone to check-up on you and see how your glucose readings are doing and provide support.
Avatar m tn could anyone give me ideas as to where or who i would contact to get some patient assistance for acute hep c treatment? I am not working, cannot wait on s.s. disability. I try to do some construction work when available, but it is really rough.
Avatar f tn Page 1 of 269 for: I'm taking 32-40 units of lantus a day. My A1C is 6.7. Why would I be given a pill instead of short acting insulin if the lantus has proven to work so well? ive tried numerous pills for diabetes over the past 20 years. Efficacy never enough- so we tried lantus.
Avatar n tn I know some pump companies require this before a pump is issued. I will only be the second patient in her office to do this. Background: Type 1 for 40 years, good control but disagree with the constant increase in Lantus she adds every visit) Too many lows, not associated with Humalog, then too many rebounds after eating. I have almost perfect days when I slightly reduce the Lantus she prescribes. It's very frustrating, and she thinks this would be a good thing.
Avatar n tn t happened in so long that I cannot remember what the formula is to calculate the lantus. I do remember that prior to going on the pump, her endocrinologist switched her lantus shot from AM to PM as her morning bg's were higher than they wanted them. You should discuss this possibility with your endo along with your thoughts of splitting the dose, however I have never heard of this as an option. I gather from your post that you are not getting much assistance from the nurse practitioner.
Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 diabetic patient and had this condition for the past 7 years. I have just switched from Mixtard/Actrapid to Lantus/Actrapid 3 days ago due to very poor blood sugar control at night and in the morning. The current dosage of Lantus is 15 units in the morning with additional 15 units of Actrapic before evety meal i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner.
199177 tn?1490498534 I was reading the post about suboxone prices ,someone wanted to know if the was any assistance for the cost . I did some research this is what I found RECKITT BENCKISER suboxone patient assistance programs 1-866-512-2216 I don't know what are the guidelines but its worth a call . Any little bit I am sure would be very helpful. If I find anything else I will post it.
Avatar n tn Take 10 units of Humalog before meals and 55units of Lantus before bed. What is the sliding scale when sick. Have sinus infection and bad cough.
Avatar n tn I have read about folks taking their Lantus shot in the morning or at night or a partial dose at each time. If you were taking the Lantus in the morning and "crashing" overnight, then talk to your doc about taking it at night instead -- then the timing of any drops would be while you're wide awake and able to test & treat. If you had been taking it at night (which is what I'm guessing, given the timing of your "drop"), then shift to the morning.
Avatar n tn Studies to seem to indicate that starting the patient on Lantus may help protect the paitent whose autoimmune system is actively attacking the pancreas and may preserve pancreas function even if the pancreas is damaged. So, no, I do not believe you are doomed to type 1 diabetes, no matter what you do. The weight loss is critical to your health, though, so keep up the good work in that regard and try to get down to your ideal weight in order to reduce the insulin resistance factor.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am T1 since Oct 2004, and switched to Lantus in Feb. Most of my BG numbers are very good (A1Cs 6.0 and 5.5), but since switching to Lantus, I have experienced 5 episodes of sudden and extreme drops in BG. They happen late morning, not related to breakfast, novolog dose or exercise. My BG is usually above 150 when it starts, and I must consume 150-200 grams of carbs (as juice or gel) to get it to stabilize, usually in 20-30 mins.
Avatar f tn Insulin reduces glucose [blood sugar] levels not elevate. Keep in mind many things elevate glucose levels; improper diet, lack of exercise, excessive body weight, even stress. Test times: 1. - Lantus - before dosing to see your beginning day level 2. - Preprandial - right before you eat to get a baseline measurement 3. - Postprandial - 2-3 hours following a meal. This will tell you how the foods you ate affected your glucose level. Also important to dose Lantus at the same time each day.
Avatar f tn (stent placement) I am currently taking Metformin 1000 mg x 2 twice daily, plus Lantus Solostar, 27 units. When I began the insulin, my blood glucose was over 400! Now it is down between 200 - 230 in the morning. They want to put me on a different type of insulin to take with meals. I don't want to do that. Is there anything I can do to lower my blood sugar naturally without taking more insulin?
Avatar n tn She has been, in the words of her endo, a model patient. She works out religiously at the gym, eats right most of the time, has stayed trim, and never seems to have a problem with her control. Her highest A1C has been 5.6, most around 5.4 and even one at 4.9 (endo thought that might be a little too low). Even with all this, her endo has suggested she think about the pump.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that no matter what I do the lantus stings after I inject it before I go to bed. Is this common? Is there any tricks anyone has learned that has helped them?
Avatar f tn I am a type 1A diabetic with normal insulin sensitivity and predictable bg responses to insulin doses. Until now. I went on a reducing diet (high protein, next to 0 carbs, increased exercise) but never decreased my once daily PM dose of Lantus (10 units.) Immediately my AM bg's jumped to over 200 and stayed there. No hypoglycemia during sleep (I never woke up, anyway.)I could bring my daily bg's down with my shortacting insulin.
Avatar n tn I am not a phycan, but i would highly suggest that you dcusss this change with your endocronolgist as you might have to do this over several days as lantus is a 24 hr insurlin. The other is that lantus really doies not have a peak so it should not effect your luch time injuection.
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
Avatar n tn And as for the sweats about a half hour after taking Lantus, there IS a slight peak action with Lantus, although this peak action for most people is several hours after taking the Lantus. In my case, I usually take my Lantus at about 6 am, and I notice a peak that causes my glucose levels to drop by about 8 am. This happens even if I have not taken any Novolog or eaten breakfast (sometimes I wait until I get to work to take Novolog and eat breakfast), so it has to be the Lantus peaking.
Avatar f tn I seemed to be gaining a lot of weight since being on Lantus for the last two years as well I have mood swings and irritability and now started having severe lows right after injecting the Lantus (it usually happens if I bleed after my shot and has happened since switching to the Solostar disposable pen needle. Anyone else have any bad reactions to the Lantus.
915277 tn?1252573113 Anyone out there on Lantus, and have you heard about this and will you stop using Lantus due to this news?? What bothers me about this news is that the study seems a bit shaky...but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
1622229 tn?1299050798 I wanted to share some encouraging news for people who have Chronic Hep B and have financial difficulty affording Baraclude. I contacted Brystol Myers Squibb and applied for the Patient Assistance Program. The website and application is here: http://www.bms.com/products/Pages/programs.aspx It took about a week and they have approved me to receive the medication and are shipping it to my home.
Avatar m tn Diabetes is a disease where the body does not proses carbohydrates properly resulting in high blood sugar (BG). lantus is a background insulin, lasts about 24 hours. lantus just keeps you idling along. When you eat carbs it raises BG as your body digests the food. so you need insulin to lower your BG the same way that food raises BG. When you eat or when your BG is too high you need to take insulin that is faster acting than Lantus.
Avatar n tn I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???. I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen.
