Lantus linked to cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus linked to cancer

lantus

Avatar f tn I have been on lantus since about 2003, and in 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I ve just been reading how lantus may cause cancer . im afraid the lantus may have caused this. did anyone else have anything like this happen? as well im type1 diabetic and my bloodsugers are really up and down all the time and i take a split dose of lantus. my suger will drop and stay down all day or for hours!
915277 tn?1252573113 The fact that EASD discovered that Lantus excites cancer cells in patients is of vital interest to many. Whether Lantus creates cancer in humans is another story. In lab rodents yes but the study report due in September, maybe, is aimed at whether non-cancerous humans using Lantus will become cancer targets. Whether Lantus user should jump of the bandwagon now is uncertain. The big uncertainty is what the FDA is doing about this as EASD surely has made them aware of their findings.
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis. There are wonderful women here ready to help, but more information on what you're asking is needed. Please write again.
Avatar n tn I would suggest that you wait to take your Lantus shot until you normally take it the next day. You may need to check your blood sugar a couple extra times and may need to increase your Novolog dosage at one or more meals. Just be careful and take less rather than more to be safe. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Iam type 2 diabetic for app. 8 years. I have been taking LANTUS for app. 4 months now. For the last three months i have been experiencing swelling/pain of my hands, then foresrms, and now my shoulders and neck.My "doctor" seems to be oblivious to these issues. I have met two other people that had this issue and both stopped using LANTUS and the swelling/pain is going away. Has this side effect been reported before??
Avatar n tn I personally have not heard specifically of allergies to Lantus, but I have heard of people having allergies to other insulins. The allergy is not to the INSULIN, but to the agents that it is suspended in. The cases I remember from other people who have written in to ask about this kind of thing were usually hives in areas near where the insulin is injected, but I seem to remember one or two that just had hives in unrelated areas.
1353681 tn?1387083733 My insurance company pushed me to make that exact switch a few years ago, and I'm pretty happy with it. Biggest difference is that Levimir release cycles last around half as long as Lantus, which makes for 2 basal shots a day, and it's a little easier to accidentally overlap doses. For example, I try to get my shots at 7am and 10pm, but that creates a 3-hour overlap and gap on either end.
20693191 tn?1503884408 Hi.I have a question. I've been a diabetic Type 1 for close to 45 years. Recently my endocrinologist suggest I use Lantus. She thought it would be better for me. I also use Humalog. She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough.
Avatar n tn I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn Scottlaw, We are volunteers here and not medical professionals. We do have a lot of experience with Type 1. It is time to check in with your end about this pattern. When we have a severe low, it does take time for our liver to restore the levels of glycogen needed to combat the next low.
Avatar m tn I am now up to 25 units of lantus and 1000 in the AM and 500 in the PM of metformin. I have liver issues and maybe the IR is playing into this. Anyone have any insight into this?
Avatar f tn I've just been switched from Novilin NPH to Lantus. I'm to start at 10 units. for one to one correlation that seems to little, I was using 16 - 22 units at bedtime. Also is anyone combining both Novilin NPH and Lantus with Lantus at bedtime and the NPH at a lower dose around noon.
Avatar n tn Hi jchitty, There is actually a really simpe reason to why Lantus stings when coming into contact with the body. The reason lies back to the pH value of the Lantus and the pH value of your body. Values of pH simply describe how acidic or how basic a solution is, the closer to 1 the solution is more acidic and the closer to 14 the solution is, the more basic.
Avatar f tn I am a type 1A diabetic with normal insulin sensitivity and predictable bg responses to insulin doses. Until now. I went on a reducing diet (high protein, next to 0 carbs, increased exercise) but never decreased my once daily PM dose of Lantus (10 units.) Immediately my AM bg's jumped to over 200 and stayed there. No hypoglycemia during sleep (I never woke up, anyway.)I could bring my daily bg's down with my shortacting insulin.
Avatar f tn s kind of a lot, I have to suggest you talk to your diabetic nurse to review your protocol. You can use both Novalog and Lantus, but not in the same syringe and not at the same injection site. Lantus is usually administered at night to bring your glucose levels down to normal in the morning.
Avatar n tn I believe that the switch from evening Lantus to moring Lantus is generally made in the following manner but you should REALLY see a Dr. to do it correctly. Generally I think they change it over a long period of time by taking 1 less unit at night and then taking 1 unit in the morning and the following day take 1 less unit at night and 2 in the morning etc. I have never done the switch so I am not the best person to advise on it but that is what I understand.
Avatar n tn It could just be that your body is learning to adjust to the lantus, and the sweating will go away when you get used to it. Your weight gain could be because of the same thing, your body reacts differently to different types of insulin, and now your body is trying to figure out how to deal with lantus.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 51 year old female with Type 2 Diabetes. I am overweight (100 lbs) and have other complications due to my obesity. (stent placement) I am currently taking Metformin 1000 mg x 2 twice daily, plus Lantus Solostar, 27 units. When I began the insulin, my blood glucose was over 400! Now it is down between 200 - 230 in the morning. They want to put me on a different type of insulin to take with meals. I don't want to do that.
Avatar f tn I seemed to be gaining a lot of weight since being on Lantus for the last two years as well I have mood swings and irritability and now started having severe lows right after injecting the Lantus (it usually happens if I bleed after my shot and has happened since switching to the Solostar disposable pen needle. Anyone else have any bad reactions to the Lantus.
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Avatar n tn I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???. I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen.
462570 tn?1273632977 I have been placed on Lantus and started that in Jan. 08. I run fastings in the 130s to 140s (on a good day I'll read out in the high 120s!) and depending on the time of month, what I have eaten and my pain level from fibromyalgia - my 2 hours are usually 140s to 160s. (Normally in 150s). My last HC1a was 6.1. Anyone else out there that is lean, type 2 and has to use insulin? Has anyone used Lantus and had a side effect of intermittent nausea even when sugar levels are okay?
Avatar f tn Thinking about going back on lantus to see if the weight comes off then i can prove to her that Its the meds. Has anyone taken toujeo if so what was your experience? Thank you in advance.
