Avatar f tn My long time meds are for blood pressure... Amlodipine 5mg and lisinopril/HCTZ 20/25mg. Oh and lamotrigine 50 mg for the last two weeks. I quit heavy drinking a about 8 days ago reneeding hospitalization fot 4 days due to extreme withdrawal. Anyway as of today I'm noticing definite noticeable hand tremors. I'm wondering if it's from my combination of meds?
202665 tn?1248806733 I have no proof but I would swear my memory is worse since taking these medications. I am on Lamotrigine, Zeldox, and trazodone. I was fine on just the lamotrigine so I blame the Zeldox. Nonetheless I am willing to trade a few memory issues for a normal life.
7390486 tn?1395024820 I am very sorry for the passings of your brother and father. I lost a sibling and my father also. I was still on mood stabilizers and not very well, so my meds got shored up. I was terribly distraught about them being gone and dreaded waking up and facing another day knowing that. The grief eases up. It took myself a couple of years before I noticed it wasn't so constant. Grief is very personal, so I won't pretend to know what you are going through.
1895346 tn?1321305844 ve tried seroquel, geodone, ziprexa (although weight gain and cost are a factor) and abilify (cost may be a factor). There are also the mood stabilizers such as lamotrigine and depakote that may be useful. Lamotrigine is an easy one because it doesn't need blood tests. Make sure you titrate up slowly as it can cause a rash that can be fatal (although that is very very very rare) and titrating up seems to prevent that. I need a combination of medications.
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
2080404 tn?1643113754 s the last medication i was taking until recently when my PCP put me on Trazodone for anxiety and insomnia. is there any meds that work to stabilize moods so they won't swing from one extreme to the other within a 24 hour period? i've also tried Lexapro, Paxil, Seroquel, and Zoloft. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated so i have an idea of what to talk about with my psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn It took me three years to get the right combo of something to help me sleep (trazodone), lamotrigine (mood stabilizer) and Geodone (although I hope to switch that to Abilify as I am having some weight loss issues on the Geodone). Most people I talk with need something to help with sleep and a mood stabilizer. Quite a few need an antipsychotic as well. And don't let them give up on you. I had on psychiatrist tell me there was nothing more they could do, and he sent me home.
Avatar f tn I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly! If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
Avatar n tn Unfortunately the second time around is not necessarily a charmer. I've read that lithium doesn't often work well the second time around but I haven't heard of that being the case with the antipsychotics (but perhaps there is more research that we'll be seeing in regards to that) Have you tried the other antipsychotics.
Avatar f tn I am also on 200mg of lamotrigine and 50mg of Trazodone. I took my first full dose of Abilify on Friday the 6th and today is the 11th The Abilify is working about 70%. I have been crying more, I wrote a big long blog about how life is useless because I can't work full time and be a parent and all those other 'normal' things the drug companies promise you that you can do if you just take their drug. I am feeling not depressed but more morose, and just generally in a slump.
Avatar f tn I now take lamotrigine, Zeldox, and trazodone. It works well for me.
Avatar f tn Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
Avatar f tn Rest assured though thyroid problems, depression and bipolar are linked and can be managed with correct meds. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
1576249 tn?1296087202 I am sorry you don't have access to quality care. I've been diagnosed with GAD in addition to Bipolar 2. I am on lamotrigine, trazodone to help me sleep (although it isn't working right now), and Zeldox (Geodone in the US). The Geodone isn't recommended for anxiety. It increases it, but I can't take the other antipsychotics so I cope. You may have been put on the depakote because it is a lot cheaper than lamotrigine and lithium needs regular blood tests. Good luck.
1756969 tn?1332437163 I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects. It is usually weight neutral meaning it doesn't affect your appetite. I have taken other mood stabilizers and didn't like the side effects - lithium, bad hand tremor, diarrhea, vomiting; depakote, hair loss, weight gain; seroquel, extreme sleepiness Do remember that this is my experience and yours may be different.
Avatar f tn I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
561706 tn?1333947274 I read a lot about Abilify and wanted to give it a try in addition to the lamotrigine and trazodone and instead of the Geodone. First time he said no, but I was losing dangerous amounts of weight on Geodone so he let me try it. That was about 5 months ago and it has made a huge difference. I am not promoting Abilify - I know a few people it didn't work for. I am just saying that there are a lot of meds out there and if you aren't having a good response, be a squeaky wheel.
Avatar f tn The study found five cases of oral clefts in infants in a study of 564 pregnancies (that is one in 113 cases) where the mother was taking lamotrigine and no other antiepileptic drugs. This is higher than the worldwide incidence which is one in 700." Overall, there are reports for and against Lamotrigine in pregnancy. The treatment has to be individualized for each patient. You will need a regular monitoring of the fetal growth.

Avatar f tn I am currently taking Lamotrigine, Prazosin, and Quetiapine. I have also been diagnosed with H. Pylori, I was wondering if I could take Prevacid with these other medications? I have tried everything else and this would be a last resort.
Avatar m tn I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day. From my personal experience I would try the medications and keep a log of good or ill effects, for the first 30 days to adjust for half life and discuss them with the prescribing DR. If there are ill effects notify your DR immediately.
