Lamictal usage

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal usage

lamictal

Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
1100992 tn?1262357216 t make you put excessive weight or hair loss like depakote or the other known side effects like lithium BTW egyptian doctors write it all the time. In asking them why not topamax, lamictal etc..
Avatar n tn Oops, I meant to put "there" not "their". Sorry, I just woke up!!
Avatar f tn I believe Lamictal is used to treat PTSD as well as the other uses you stated. but you could speak to your psychiatrist more about this.

607502 tn?1288247540 Actually I was originally on Lithium and Lamictal was added. It was only when my psychopharmocologist saw that the Lamictal was working so well (remember it had just started usage as a mood stabilizer, this was 1998) that he gradually took me off the Lithium. I can say for standard psychiatric usage they are safe in combination with no particular interactions. I just felt a bit slogged.
822153 tn?1333062995 s exactly what my Psychiatrist does. For example he has me on generic Lamictal and says that I were on the name brand Lamictal that he would only have me taking 150Mgs a day, but since I am on the Generic he moves it to 200Mgs a day. In your case you also need to look at how long you have been taking Prozac (fluxotine) because after many years of usage Prozac can lose it effectivness as the result of resistance built up by your body.
519035 tn?1348275773 As for mood stabilizers, atypical (the current generation) antipsychotics are approved for usage as mood stabilizers as well. They can have cognitive blunting effects. Depakoate can cause this fairly regularly. I know I had a better response to Lamictal but each person responds differently to each medication. If you want some consumer friendly but clinically accurate websites on bipolar and mood stabilizers go to the welcome page.
1109293 tn?1258329623 I have bi polar disorder and have been treated for it for ten years or so. I've been on a number of different meds with various side effects. I've been taking Lamictal for about three years and was fairly stable until two weeks ago. I'm very depressed in every way possible. My doctor increased my Lamictal from it's normal 300 mg. to 200mg. That didn't make a difference so he increased it two weeks later to 400 mg.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I was taking lamictal for pain and fatigue problems of unknown cause for the past 4 months, I've recently been having blurred vision and headaches in the last three weeks.
524020 tn?1223161005 I was on lamictal and ativan at the same time - I was okay until my son was murderedin 1/05 - and then it seemed like nothing helped - suffered from PTSD so I was going from one med to the other - however doctor kept me on lamictal than I switched doctors and the new one put me on 400 mgs of lamictal and that's when my problems started I got bad rash and once you get a rash from lamictal you can't go back on it - however I was okay under regular dose of 200 mgs - also had problems when d
Avatar f tn I relapsed while on Lexapro and my doc started me on Effexor and Lamictal. The effexor was horrible for me, I felt awful and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The Lamictal is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. I am taking 200mg daily. My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.
Avatar f tn Everyone has to increase the dosage of lamictal (lamotrigine) slowly starting at 25mg. I have been on as high as 400mg but had to drop back down to 200mg because it is an antiseizure med and I am having ECT and 400mg would interfere with that. I have been on it for years and didn't see any difference in weight with it. Other drugs I am taking are not so weight friendly. I am now exercising and trying to diet but little success. How did you lose your weight?
439168 tn?1307931740 Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 and have been epileptic for 6 years, I have tried a variety of medications including keppra (giving me suicidal tendencies) and a couple of others which didn't control seizures. I have always been on Lamictal, which is slowly being increased after any fits or 'episodes' until the right dose for me is reached, in conjunction with this I also take Ethisuxomide, a drug that has worked well in controlling my absences.
Avatar f tn HI,I was put on Lamictal yesterday...Dr feels it might help with my deprssion as i cant seem to take antidepressants.I was in abilify but i started about 3 weeks into gettting extremely dizzy so she had me stop it last week,i saw her on Monday and she put me on 25 mg of Lam ictal as to build up to more....
Avatar f tn I have started taking Lamictal and it seems to be working to keep the mania under control. But the pills taste so bad. What are some other medication options?
1134609 tn?1269272200 The depressive episodes are kind of new to me; when I was cycling a lot, it was always towards the agitated mania side of the disorder. She's been pushing Lithium off and on over the oast few months; everytime I have a down swing. But, with every increase in Lamictal, my mood stabilizes more and more. If the Lamictal isn't effective as higher doses, then so be it, I'll work with the Lithium.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for an increased level of Lamictal work? My doctor upped my mgs from 125 for 1 week, then 150. I've felt more restless and have a hard time comprehending things when my husband asks me a simple question, such as where is something. I don't like this feeling, but I'm holding out that this will help me, along with my current meds (Depakote, Cymbalta, Geodon). At this point, I just don't know what's working and what isn't.
925572 tn?1246540031 I bet it isn't the lamictal, it's your worries and depression. living on the edge of a cliff all the time and feeling insecure makes the person concentrate less, have volatile memory especially the short one. This happens to all of us. I believe you should do something regarding your depression. Whereas it says that antidepressants worsen mania causing rapid cycling and mixed states, but most BP pts take them to be able to function.
560501 tn?1383612740 Hello Friends :) I went to an MS Seminar last night (on MS) He heads a Well Known MS Clinic in PuertoRico. After his Talk he opened up the floor with a Q and A time for us to ask questions. I asked him how many patients he has or how often he see's people w/ MS that have an AD also. He said very often! I asked him how he treated his patients w/ AD.
1540869 tn?1351214013 I cannot believe they let it get that far without taking you off. I was just on zoloft and clonazapam and i just got switched to buspar and lamictal . I'm taking it for depression and bipolar . But if i have any problems with my balance or remembering things i will get off of it immediately . It would be awesome if they could make just 1 medication that didn't have any side effects wouldn't it?
