i say my new neoro today and he wanted me to look at 3 other meds(lamictal, topomax, and trileptal) and they all have just as bad or more side effects including severe acne.
ive been trying to ghave a good attitude but its starting to get to me and it has almost eliminated my social life. i dont care what ppl think. acne does make a difference and i dont think a good looking girl would like me with my face all messed up.
I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?
The treatment that you have been prescribed is correct. If you are having any side effects then get the antibiotics changed and even oral antibiotics can be added.

However, I recently read that studies have shown that, although less common than with SSRI antidepressants, Wellbutrin can cause sexual side effects, such as decreased libido and impotence.
My daughter is currently taking a combination of depakote, lamictal, and abilify for a mood disorder. However, her doctor feels the overwhelming problem with her is an anxiety disorder that is not being addressed by the current meds.
The doctor wants to ween her off the lamictal completely and start her on klonopin wafers. I am concerned about the "drowsiness" side effects. Do these eventually go away?
I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
The side effects you are describing can occur as an adverse reaction to Lamictal but it also could be a matter of interactions

About 10% of patients who take Lamictal get a rash; however, the serious life-threatening rash occurs much more rarely. The risk of rash can be minimized by starting at a very low dose (12.5mg) and increasing very slowly. Lamictal is an excellent mood stabilizer with few side effects, except the rash. It's something to be aware of, but not a reason to completely avoid the medication. Many people have noticed significant benefit from Lamictal.
I know Lamictal has a strong anti-depressent effect including when I took it and dizziness is a common side effect at first (including with me) but it generally passes in time.
Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5.
I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.
If the side effects listed freak you out, look up all the side effects for a medicine you take on a regular basis, like tylenol or ibuprofen, to give you some perspective. And some side effects go away after a few weeks.
TL;DR--if you have BP II or depression is your worst enemy, try the Lamictal first.
I have had no side effects from Lamictal. I take 200mg twice a day. I have been taking medicines for Bipolar since I was diagnosed in 1990 and all gave me some pretty bad side effects except Lamictal. When I switched from valporic acid to Lamictal all my side effects disappeared with in a couple of weeks. Lamictal is now available in generic.
