Lamictal gaba

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal gaba

lamictal

Avatar f tn I HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL( lamotrigine) (FOR YEARS. NEVER MESS AROUND WITH THIS DRUG. IT YOU INCREASE YOUR DOSAGE BY MORE THAN 25MG AT A TIME FOR A WEEK, OR 50MG FOR 2 WEEKS ( AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL FOR SOME TIME AND YOUR DOCTOR FEELS THAT IT IS OK TO INCREASE IT BY 50MG EVERY TWO WEEKS) YOU CAN HAVE SOME TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS. YOU CAN GET A RASH THAT YOU BETTER GET TO A HOSPITAL RIGHT AWAY. IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.
Avatar n tn I was suprised as I thought valium was the best to taper from. I am also on lamictal and trileptal and they both effect gaba so I think its too much for my brain. I hope to taper off lamictal also as I am severly depressed so its not working either. whats the point of taking drugs that dont work. My dr also prescribed neurotin . I took it a few times then read it also effects Gaba. I cant think or concentrate or learn anything new . I have no memory and learn anything new.
574118 tn?1305135284 The problem is that i was always on antipsychotics once diagnosed 2 years ago, but never on a proper mood stabilizer. A month ago i got fed up and my pdoc started me on an infantile dose of 2mg then 4 of lamictal etc...gradually to avoid side effects, e.g rashes, etc... since i was in the depressed phase already it was assumed not to help immediately so i intervened with seroxat/paxil an AD until my lamictal kicks in.
Avatar f tn Best way to replace GABA is to take PreGABA which is a supplement to produce more GABA, which is the exact opposite of what will likely happen as your doctor will likely say your more anxious can't sleep so take more benzodiazeapams which will only make it worse.
1691275 tn?1322327507 Actually, my doctor suggested I get a Xanax prescription to help control panic attacks, believe it or not. She's still skeptical that it's benzo withdrawal and thinks that the Xanax/Ambien effectiveness in the past merely indicates an underlying "chemical imbalance" having to do with GABA (both drugs are GABA agonists). I had to ask for a safer, longer-lasting benzo because I got the sneaking suspicion that I would be on my own if I was right and had to initiate a taper.
Avatar f tn i don't believe anyone has mentionned gaba, yet it is supposed to be a sleeping and calming amino. does anyone know if it helps? i am thinking rls is a brain thing and maybe there is an amino for it.
1326513 tn?1276518001 Probably not -- ativan targets GABA receptors. Don't know how frequently you take ativan. GABA isn't a particularly effective supplement for anxiety. For one thing, it can cause anxiety. For another, and most important, it doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier well. A better way to get GABA is to take taurine, which along with B-6 is what the body uses to make GABA, but since you're taking the ativan, I'd be careful about this.
Avatar f tn First, if you're on any drug such as benzos or neurontin that target GABA don't take this. Second, GABA supplements don't usually cross the blood/brain barrier, so they don't usually work. The best way to supplement for GABA, assuming you're not on medication that targets it, is to take the pseudo amino acid taurine and B6, which together with other co-factors make GABA in the body.
10608291 tn?1411415602 I don't know if I can distinguish what is real emotion or withdrawal from Effexor, Lamictal, Remeron. How long does this last. I have been taking St. John's Wort, B12, Valerian, and L Tyrosene to build up my own natural supply of serotonin, dopamine. This crying thing is the pits. I'm so sick of medications. I want to have a baby without spina bifida or missing limbs and cardiac anamolies, I've been on and off meds for years.
7191139 tn?1389055599 First, antidepressants don't increase GABA in the brain. The don't work on GABA, they work on other neurotransmitters, and they don't even increase those, they just alter how the body uses them, so Abilify and ssris, for example don't target GABA. Benzos do target GABA, but don't necessarily increase it, again, they alter the way the body uses it mostly. GABA supplements don't generally cross the blood/brain barrier, so they don't usually increase GABA either.
Avatar f tn Likewise, neurontin is a very tricky med; acting directly on GABA often increases anxiety, even for some taking GABA as a supplement. I would get a different shrink and try another ssri, following your instincts. Might not work, since Paxil is the strongest, but it does sound like the appropriate class of meds for what you're suffering.
Avatar n tn GABA contributes to motor control, vision, and many other cortical functions. Anxiety is also regulated by GABA. Some drugs that increase the level of GABA in the brain are used to treat epilepsy and to calm the trembling of people suffering from Huntington’s disease. Gamma-aminobutyric acid also stimulates the anterior pituitary, leading to higher levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Human Growth Hormone contributes significantly to muscle growth and also prevents the creation of fat cells.
Avatar f tn Can too high a dose of GABA cause anxiety? I know GABA is used to bring anxiety down but I took 750mg. and my anxiety became much higher and my stomach was very nauseous! A few hours later I took 2.5mg. of valium and I feel much better. But now I don't know what to do about the GABA?
Avatar m tn What's the differences between CNS depression? May i know what's the causes of depression? Does it relate to the neurotransmitter? Diazepam is an anti-depressant? It enhances the effect of GABA by binding to the benzodiazepine site on the GABA A-receptor. After binding to the receptor, may i know what's the next mechanism? GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter? If GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, how does diazepam can cause anti-depress? I heard that it can treat seizure?
Avatar f tn This is because of scare tissue and nerve damage from a second cervical spine surgery.I was left in chronic pain and have radiculophy in arm and hand.Gabapentin is just one of many meds I am forced to take to deal with pain. I hope this helps you,the doctor will start you out low and Increase your dosage until you feel some relief and build on that.
Avatar m tn It sounds like the article you read was talking about benzos, which work on GABA already in the body to intensify its actions.
363281 tn?1643235611 What is the difference between 5-Hydroxy Gaba and just GABA? I got an e-mail today from my other doc, in Seattle, and she told me to try this for my pain, she said to start with just one at night, to do this for a week, and if I don't have any ill effects to increase to 2 a day. She knows me well, and knows how I can react to things. I tried just plain GABA once, it was a disaster, I felt awful, so I am wondering about this.
6712744 tn?1384027064 I recently found out that my 7 year old son is ADHD. His school wants me to put him on medications and I refuse. I did order Gaba Plus as an alternative to help him stay focused in class. It seems to help some. My question to all of you is what methods did you choose and has anyone heard of Gaba Plus?
520191 tn?1355635402 >>>My pdoc wants to put me on Effexor but my therapist doesn't think that's a good idea strange that your therapist understand psychiatry more than your pdoc. INDEED any AD will cause mania after a while (can take months, weeks or even a few years, the longer it takes to produce mania the more difficult to extinguish it). This question I asked here long time ago whether there exists an AD that doesn't drive you manic.
968908 tn?1274871115 Hi all, i have just done a questionaire to see where i have any deficiencies and it turns out i have a strong GABA deficiency. So could anyone advise me on how to raise my levels naturally either with food or supplements please. Thank-you.
Avatar m tn GABA = Gamma-Aminobutryic Acid is a neurotransmitter of the brain, which inhibits some relevant transmission of impulses within the cns-network. GABA is an amino-acid which is manufactured in the brain. But it cannot pass the blood-brain barrier. So any additional supplement to the food or pills will have no effect, because the drug won´t come to the place of action. Many online-pharmacies try to promote the use of GABA to relief anxiety, depression or promote stimulation of growth hormones.
Avatar f tn Valproate is believed to affect the function of the neurotransmitter GABA in the human brain, making it an alternative to lithium salts in treatment of bipolar disorder. Its mechanism of action includes enhanced neurotransmission of GABA (by inhibiting GABA transaminase, which breaks down GABA). However, several other mechanisms of action in neuropsychiatric disorders have been proposed for valproic acid in recent years. *Rosenberg, G. (2007).
