lamictal

560501 tn?1383612740 Hadn't heard of it for MS but took Lamictal for a few months trying it as a migraine preventative a neurologist prescribed for me- wouldn't be surprised if that was off label in 2000 and 2001. Anyway, I think I though it was somewhat effective for migraine prevention but started having itchiness and the neurologist prescribed I think it was atarax for itching (didn't wind up getting it filled and discontinued medicine.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I was taking lamictal for pain and fatigue problems of unknown cause for the past 4 months, I've recently been having blurred vision and headaches in the last three weeks.
925572 tn?1246540031 s the only FDA approved for bipolarity since lithium as a 1st line MS and especially for BP1 which is tedious. It's also excellent as far rapid cycling and mixed states. one major advantage you don't have to do regular blood tests like lithium or tegretol, etc.. it's also effective contrary to gabapentin which has minor side effects but weaker. The majority of the pts in the USA and Canada are under lamictal so i assumed it's good unless the company has a good marketing policy.
Avatar f tn I tried tegretol once for a month but gave me headaches that was the only MS i used before my today lamictal. In the USA they don't use it anymore because it's interactive with other drugs. Trileptal is its cousin though weaker and as IL said doesn't need blood test. Incidentally lamictal sometimes they mix it with depakote it says in its brochure. I wonder why he recommends tegretol. Is it he is suggesting any MS and that's all.
Avatar f tn I am BP and I try to convince my pdoc to try lamictal. He put me on tegretol instead which I couldn't bare. I read good things about lamictal. Why pdocs prefer AC as MS because more effective and longlasting than AP. Although I am on seroquel which is OK, I believe the best 2 meds invented so far though not tried neither is lamotrigine (lamictal) and abilify.
Avatar m tn It's the best drug I have been on so far, and I've been a guinea pig, no side effects what so ever, Im on 250mg/day(you can go higher if needed, I have difficult to treat depression) - I've reacted badly to to other drugs because my pdoc wanted to augment, then he finally realized I was just fine just taking this MS. Actually the stats are a little lower then you mentioned. Most pdocs are very conservative and will up you very slowly on the drug @ 25mgs each week. .
Avatar f tn I feel as though the Lamictal is working well for me. i see my doc on Friday. Darkestlight: thank you for letting me know you have been on this high of a dose, i was concerned, i know that ILADVOCATE was on 325mg i had read that before. was it a good stabilizer as well as working as anti depressant? i just like to know "real people" views, as well as docs. ILADVOCATE: I read that at a high dose it can send you into mania, it also said that the mania can be controlled w/ topiramate.
Avatar f tn Kyle is spot on in his comment. Lamictal has been drug studied for use in treating Multiple Sclerosis in the UK with promising results. I do not understand what you mean by the 567 questions psych. test to which you referred.
Avatar f tn Your post is strange to me, for yet you said you turned manic after the SSRI prior to it you said you were dx BP. What made your pdoc suggest BP. If it is depression only then it's cyclothemia for sure as the other manic pole is not present unless you trigger it by an AD. In this case I believe your drug is lamictal. Of course I am not a pdoc but can tell from my experience because it's my case typical. Although I haven't tried the drug but believe in it for my case.
Avatar m tn they were testing her for MS. She is experiencing facial numbness, dizziness, blurred vision, muscle weakness, tremors...and a few other symptoms as well. she has an appointment in almost 8 months with the neurologist. I know this is not for diagnostics on here, thats why we are seeing a number of doctors. Her symptoms have been progressing rapidly over the past year or so, would MS be off the table here and if so, what else causes these kinds of symptoms?
874521 tn?1424116797 Meds vary of course according to the type of BP so they focus on lithium say when mania or hypomania is more pronounced while for depression (the difficult part) they either give lamictal or an AD to help. So your meds I guess aren't suitable. Besides this zyprexa of Eli lilly has been on the market for a while and known to be strong. pdocs use it as a mood stabilizer sometimes especially when there are psychosis. Why i don't know !
Avatar f tn I had been doing so well on the lamictal and cymbalta that I thought I had no need for psychiatrist for the last 10 months or so. Now, bam, I need one and who wants to start with a patient that already has SJS. When I had dbl couverage insurance I could get in anywhere. (least of problems) 4. I've seen, neurologist, internal med.
Avatar n tn I was put on lamictal for mania because I cannot take any of the traditional mania meds. Lamictal worked for me but I had side effects and had to stop it. Your dr is just following new medication lists.
1252074 tn?1271541709 No I haven't been diagnosed with MS, my primary still thinks this is MS, (but he's known me for 20+ years, too and actually is aware of this deterioration more than anyone else) part of the problem is that we're having a hard time getting my medical records sent up here from FL, where I was put on Dilantin. The hospital's staff down there in Medical Records are super slow about sending them out.
2080404 tn?1643113754 Usually pdocs who follow the book write one of these 3. The 1st 2 are anticonvulsant but used off-label as MS for BP. Among the three, tegretol is the mildest in my view in that it doesn't have the more serious side effects of the other 2. Especially being a girl depakine / depakote causes ovarian cyst among other things. The only drawback of tegretol is that it interacts greatly with many other drugs so it's not recommended for geriatric since older pts consume many drugs.
560501 tn?1383612740 NeuroPsyc (sp) testing for my MS. Neuro checking to see how much of my cognition is affected by my MS....I am scared to find out.....Lol wednesday: Rest, Rest, Rest :) Thursday and Friday I have something but can not remember and do not have my Planner in front of me..Lol I hope that everyone has a "Smooth" week and that no unexpected "yuckies" come up!
574118 tn?1305135284 I met some old school mates in the afternoon. My father said perhaps i was exited. But i feel that 4mg lamictal is big for me. Can i cut it to 2mg only without difficulty. I took an extra xanax now and 25mg seroquel to try to sleep i am not going to work today. very bad. Is this side effect. I said no depression but tired from not sleeping.
Avatar f tn Well I was on Lamictal for almost 10 years and at higher doses (I was told by my psychopharmocologist this was not uncommon) that it could worsen mania and that's why I was changed to another mood stabilizer. Speak to your psychiatrist and make sure that's not the cause of the mania (of course it could easily be that its just not working well enough and the whole issue is their judgment).
607502 tn?1288247540 I hope you feel better! Lamictal works great for me. I just changed from Abilfy to Geodon, but take Lamictal as the main stabilizer. Hope the withdrawals aren't to bad.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.
