Avatar n tn I have been on and off an Effexor/Lamictal combination for a number of years - going off of it when I've lost health insurance or just can't afford it. This time around I've been on it about 1 1/2 years and due to paperwork issues, my new prescription didn't arrive per usual, so my psychiatrist had me immediately go from 600 mg effexor to 300 mg, and now to 150 mg in less then a week. I've also gone down from 450 mg of lamictal to 150 mg.
Avatar f tn I am on Carbamazeptine, that is for my Epilepsy and Depression. I found that it did not work for my Bipolar even though i was on 800mg and yes, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and kidney function. If you are concerned about it talk to your Psychiatrist about other options. I did! It is your body and you do have control over what goes into it.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.
980052 tn?1262967079 Lamictal caused mental dulling and word finding issues for me.
Avatar f tn I was on Lamictal for a couple of years and it was a great medicine for me. Excellent mood stabilizer in my opinion. Finding a therapeutic level took a little while and you have to go up slowly with Lamictal but I think it is a good med.
Avatar f tn I had been doing so well on the lamictal and cymbalta that I thought I had no need for psychiatrist for the last 10 months or so. Now, bam, I need one and who wants to start with a patient that already has SJS. When I had dbl couverage insurance I could get in anywhere. (least of problems) 4. I've seen, neurologist, internal med.
Avatar f tn Started taking Lithium changed after about 7 months due to weight gain to Lamictal. I have been on Lamictal ever since. However, I have felt that the depression, change in mood, higher anxiety, and confusion has started slowly but is here. Can my meds. stop working or helping me after a period of time?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder since '95, but through a lot of research and getting completely sober I really feel that I actually have Borderline Personality Disorder with Severe Depression and Anxiety. I just got prescribed Lamictal because I've tried everything over the years and nothing works for long. I'm still on Topomax, Geodon, Prozac and Desyrel.
Avatar f tn to discuss it with him/her) is to mention lamictal (AC) and abilify (AP). They both work upwards i.e. good for depression. With this she hits two birds with one bullet. But being suitable for depression, they have one disadvantage of making the person anxious or having perhaps an insomnia. In my case I don't use them because I believe in the proverb "if ain't broke don't fix it". I am stable for a while with seroquel, it's a magic drug (antimanic) so no need to change.
Avatar f tn I have not heard of Lamictal worsening depression. But it needs to be at least 150 mg. for you to even begin to see an affect so symptoms will return in the meantime including depression. If at a full dose of Lamictal you still feel depressed or if the depression worsens then you can discuss the issue with your psychiatrist then. There are other options as regading mood stabilizers but they are less in use. They are all listed on sites on the links page.
Avatar f tn It came out in the newspaper a few weeks ago that anti-depressants like prozac are no more effective than a placebo at fighting depression. Previously withheld study results were released. The major pharmaceuticals have been scamming us all. Try St John's Wort. You can take up to 3000 mg a day, or so. Use a good sunscreen, since it can make your skin phytosensitive. You could also try Sam(e), but you have to get the right kind, I guess, from Natures Way.
Avatar m tn have tried lithium but it did not work for me. am now on lamictal and up to100 with no effect yet. will keep trying though. talk to your pdoc about what meds might suit you.
Avatar f tn The old doc that I’m seeing again, that I’ve seen for years says I only have anxiety and depression. The new doc I saw for a few months says it’s mood disorder and that I was on the wrong type of meds. He was more thorough, giving me a questionnaire, going over family history, and wanting to take my blood to make sure med levels were right etc. But the old doc knows me longer. I don’t know who is right. Do I have anxiety/depression or is it mood disorder.
1540869 tn?1351214013 I cannot believe they let it get that far without taking you off. I was just on zoloft and clonazapam and i just got switched to buspar and lamictal . I'm taking it for depression and bipolar . But if i have any problems with my balance or remembering things i will get off of it immediately . It would be awesome if they could make just 1 medication that didn't have any side effects wouldn't it?
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Zoloft and Lamictal (and Trazadone for sleep at night), but I'm feeling like the only way out of the bind I am in is to actually *be* a little manic. (I haven't had a manic episode in a long time - actually, I was only ever hypomanic.) I have had a hopeless feeling and I don't actually think it's depression - I think it's real, and I am wondering about the potential to get *more* depressed if I go off Lamictal, or if it shouldn't matter.
724388 tn?1231372047 The treatment for that is different from depression in that mood stabilizers (Lithium, Depakoate, Lamictal, I found Lamictal to have the best side effect profile) are used and anti-depressents would worsen mania so its important to be detailed with a psychiatrist. Do you experience mania or moodswings overall beyond depression? That certainly can be easily treated with a mood stabilizer.
Avatar f tn Anyone out there. I have been fighting clinical depression for about 10 years..have been on may different med's...The one where I had the best luck with (no side effects) felt great was the EMsam Patch--that was for maybe 6 months... then it just STOPPED working.. tried higher dosages- no luck... Then most recently I had 3 seizures in the month of August and on top of being depressed I am now Epileptic.
Avatar m tn I saw my P-doc today and he said he has seen Lamictal work very well for this Soft or Bi-polar ll type of agitated anxiety based depression. He's trying me on that, slow at first. Correct you are; No doubt I will have to keep taking my AD medication. I get way too low without it. This damn ultra high anxiety needs to get in check though. Hoping Lamictal will level me out a bit. My AD is Mertazapine.
