lamictal for cyclothymia

m 22 and have been depressed for 10 years,with some interval of good mood, I took zoloft and then for one week paroxetina and aripriprazole. I recently change my psychiatrist and my meds now are: lamictal 100 pregabalin 50 neuleptil 9 She didn't diagnose me but my psychologist told me that probably I have cyclothymia but not sure... Can someone tell me what I do?

I was treated for depression for years (early to mid 20s) with tricyclics and SSRIs. I'm not sure what they officially diagnosed me with as I never looked at the notes. But the treatment caused agitated depression, mixed states, and hypomania rapidly cycling with depression. I didn't really have the knowledge or language to describe this correctly to my psych. I also had trich since I was 15. He said I didn't and passed both off as anxiety.

Is their anyone out there that has cyclothymia that can pm me to talk please? I am in need of answers as I was diagnosed with this. My heart is broken and I want to be in denial, but I feel so bad right now I have to face this. After getting the diagnosis last night, I have had a couple panic attacks today and went from hypomanic to a depression coming on. I want to know what to expect from either abilify or lamictal. It's a toss up which drug I will be taking.

Last week i went to a pdoc for the first time and he assessed me and told me I dont have BP, I dont have cyclothymia and he almost said i have nothing. Then he said noooo Id say you ahve stability affective disorder. Which basically means im a moody, emotional, sensitive girl. Are you F'n kidding me???? I have so many symptoms of cylcothymia....

i have just been put on counselling for cyclothymia and was wondering how this will affect my new family as i have a four and a half month old baby and i have heared stories about people having their children taken off them for just depression.

You might need something fast acting for now, like another atypical antipsychotic. Lamictal might be a good choice for long term use, but it takes forever to titrate up, so it's not going to help you right this second. Then again, with the uncontrolled eating, maybe a typical antipsychotic would be the way to go for now. That or lithium, which has a good chance of stopping the hypomania quickly.

I have a problem with weight gain and for that reason I had to drop Depakote years ago. I also had been on LIthium with Lamictal but after seven months I experienced extreme muscle weakness in my legs and arms where I couldn't keep my balance and my legs shook uncontrollably when climbing or descending stairs and getting off the bus. Could one of the antipsychotics possibly go with Lamictal and Celexa?

I had been doing so well on the lamictal and cymbalta that I thought I had no need for psychiatrist for the last 10 months or so. I was put on lamictal for mania because I cannot take any of the traditional mania meds. Lamictal worked for me but I had side effects and had to stop it. Your dr is just following new medication lists.

So I was diagnosed with a form of bipolar(cyclothymia) and they put me on Lamictal. I’ve been on it for maybe 2 months and my mood has evened out completely. Before the Lamictal I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed I was so depressed but now I barely cry. But today I was going through my clothes and none of my shorts or pants fit me which are around size 4-6. This fit me fine a couple months ago.

I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.

Has any one be diagnosed with cyclothemia. I have been told this for years from my General Practisioner, but now I'm wondering if I am more bipolar than anything. I feel very alone and it is very difficult to make social plans or commitments as I never know how I'm going to feel. Most of the time I live like a hermit...never want to come out the house very much unless I have a good day.

Thanks DLA for responding. The psych. stated that I was definetly in a manic state in observing the change in me from Friday to today. She still won't state if it is definetly bipolar. But she increased my Risperadal and put me on Lithium 300 mg 3x dly. Took my first dose late this afternoon, will be taking second dose soon. Well, I guess it is a waiting game now.

My husband and I both have ADHD, I have had excellent results from taking Adderall...I'm concerned about whether or not it's actually helping my husband or not though. I really have no idea if the issues that I'm seeing are because of the Adderall or something else, and can't seem to talk to him about it without making him angry.

i need something for hypo mania and deppreshion..will the lamictal take care of them both?? at 25 mgs 1 aday 2 weeks then 50 mgs aday 2 weeks then 100 mgs aday till seen?????????

First choices depend on which type of bipolar you have (I, II, NOS, cyclothymia) and what your main symptoms are. For instance, if you have psychosis with your episodes, and atypical antipsychotic might be a good place to start, but most of them can cause weight gain. Geodon is the exception, being weight neutral (and Abilify is almost as good apparently from the weight standpoint).

So I decided to ask different psyctrist for opinion, he said SSRI class is not working for me so he told to try different class because it work well for anxiety. He gave Lamictal, and told me that we r going to increase the dose slowly to avoid rash. Yesterday was my 1st dose of Lamictal and ended up in ER because I had allergic reaction and blister rash in mouth. ER told me to stop the med.

Hello, i am currently taking Lamictal. I have been absolutly fine for the 2 years i have been taking this medication for, until recently (3weeks). I have been having really bad jerking of the body and mouth. My doctor has told me that it is down to stress and anxiety, but i think its more to do with my Epilepsy.

Lamictal caused mental dulling and word finding issues for me.

The newer antipsychotics such as Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris are less likely to cause weight gain and sedation. For myself, Lamictal was the best mood stabilizer in that regard and it stabilized mixed states and rapid cycling (which may be part of what you are describing but speak to your psychiatrist about that) but of course each person responds differently to each medication.

I am BP and I try to convince my pdoc to try lamictal. He put me on tegretol instead which I couldn't bare. I read good things about lamictal. Why pdocs prefer AC as MS because more effective and longlasting than AP. Although I am on seroquel which is OK, I believe the best 2 meds invented so far though not tried neither is lamotrigine (lamictal) and abilify.
