Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal for add

lamictal

Avatar f tn I take Lamictal for depression and a mood stablizer. They do use meds to help the kids get to sleep--they did for my son, but they gave him Seraquel whick made him groggy at school until about 10:30 a.m. every day! I wouldn't recommend Seraquel if they suggest that. I have been on Lamictal for years and it really helps me.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.
Avatar m tn I was taking Bupropion and Lamictal, and switched to Effexor. I have been on Effxor for three weeks. I have had the worst fatigue I have ever felt. So now I am unsure if it was coming off the Lamictal or if it was the Effexor. I am going to stop the Effexor, but I don't know if I should go back on just the Lamictal, The lamictal When I first started taking it, up to 200 mg worked fairly well. I guess my question is, is , has this kind of fatigue been know to be a side effect with Effexor?
Avatar f tn Hi people who have seizures can seem like they have add, this is because when you have a seizure's, you can have a hard time learning and hearing what is being said to you while you are having a seizure and lose time. There for a lot of children I think, that are not add but maybe having other things going on, and missed because the doctors just think of add and not look at everything that is going on with young children these day's.
Avatar m tn For two years before I was diagnosised with BP, I was treated for ADD with Adderall (a stimulant like Ritalin.) It may FEEL like your better for awhile, but what you will be is manic. Stimulants with BP can also trigger seizures and involuntary muscles movements of the legs, hands, and head. These 'ticks' can become permanent if the BP person is treated with stimulants too long.
Avatar f tn A neurologist put me on Topamax because she wanted me off the low dose of amitriptyline I was on just so I could lose 10 lb. Losing 10 lb was supposed to stop the nerve pain going down my leg, but that wasn't the problem (severe constipation was impinging on my anterolateral cutaneous thigh nerve, and the drugs she prescribed made it worse). The Topamax was a disaster.
Avatar f tn My new doctor thinks I've been misdiagnosed for depression/anxiety. He says this based on everything I described to him and because general SSRI's just cause me more problems than good (high anxiety and side effects). He says I'm not BiPolar, but that I have a mood disorder, on the BiPolar Spectrum... maybe unipolar. He says he does not know exactly what kind of mood disorder yet, just that I have one. So he's trying me out on Lamictal.
980052 tn?1262967079 Lamictal caused mental dulling and word finding issues for me.
Avatar f tn I had been doing so well on the lamictal and cymbalta that I thought I had no need for psychiatrist for the last 10 months or so. Now, bam, I need one and who wants to start with a patient that already has SJS. When I had dbl couverage insurance I could get in anywhere. (least of problems) 4. I've seen, neurologist, internal med.
Avatar n tn I was put on lamictal for mania because I cannot take any of the traditional mania meds. Lamictal worked for me but I had side effects and had to stop it. Your dr is just following new medication lists.
Avatar m tn I am currently on Lamictal and Prozac and doing okay...not great but okay. I believe the Lamictal is a maintainence drug for mood swings and it contains a antidpressant. My bipolar leans more to depression than mania and I have to be on a antidpressant. When beginning a new antidepressant I tend to get mania for a short time but seem to adjust after the first week or two. Hey, if you are feeling good...why mess with something that's not broken! Best of luck.
Avatar n tn Lamictal is a mood stabilizer and the only one with antidepressant properties. What you must learn about bipolar is a lot of times you have to try different meds to get the perfect combination that will work for you. I can completely agree with this. I am not a doctor, but i dont think getting off the lamictal will help you be happy and in the end probably make it worse.. I also take lamictal, have for years. Sometimes things need to be added to get you stable. It's just the way it is.
Avatar m tn However by the end of my 3rd week (15mg) I had flu symptoms (which at first I thought maybe legitimate, even though I’ve taken the flu jab early October and not feeling it had worked for me this year). To add to the flu symptoms I started having itchy patches on my cheeks, the common denominator with the last two week being that I drank more than I usually do ( up to a bottle of wine a day).
Avatar f tn Did they diagnose you BP I or II? For BP II, the consensus I've seen from a few psychiatrists as well as patients, is that lamotrigine (Lamictal) is the best med to try first for BP II. It's approved for BP I as maintenance, but it doesn't have so much anti-manic activity. It's great for depression. I'm on lamotrigine for BP II, now at 200 mg, and it's done wonders.
1114269 tn?1258680912 t stop lamictal on your own. your pdoc will add another thing with it. true lamictal is good for depression but not very effective in mania but this a known fact, yet in my view the best ms ever (of course this depends on the individual). discuss adding seroquel with it.
1303966 tn?1296740010 The drawback is that, like many seizure meds, lamictal is very expensive (one month of 90 200mg tablets of lamictal costs ~$530/month; for lamictal XR, the cost is about $1,900) . Luckily I get help paying (only pay a few dollars, actually), but it is rediculous to have such necessary meds cost this much. Sometimes your doc can also give you a large bunch of samples....I managed to get about 6 months worth of samples, before I got help paying for the XR.
Avatar m tn For the last year or so I was taking 300mg/day Wellbutrin Xr and also 200mg lamictal. I have also taken Buspar for around a year. Around a week ago, I decided to lower my dosage to 150mg. of Lamictal. This is what my psychiatrist had suggested 8 months ago might be capping my happiness. She left town and I had an appointment made with a new guy at a new place this week. About 10 days ago, noticed before the appt my script would run out.
Avatar m tn I take supplements for overall Brain flow, 6 fish oils a day, Lamictal, Concerta, excercise 30 min a day and think better. I do feel somewhat better, but, have a very long way to go. They claim I should do 60 to 80 sessions of Hyperbaric chamber and see a psychologist for EMDR. The chamber should increase oxygen, therfore increase blood flow in brain. Do you believe that and do you believe in EMDR? Once Brain is more healed and balanced, they claim I should do neurofeedback.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I've been on 400 mg daily (200 mg b.i.d) of Lamictal for years now. I for me it's a wonder drug. Other mood stabilizers or anti-psychotics made me feel drugged. This one makes me feel nothing...except like a normal person. The only side effects I had were during titration and disappeared when the dosing leveled out. These we body aches and a slight visual disturbance. It isn't stimulating; I can take it right before bed. And it isn't sedating; I can take it when I wake up.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder for 16 years now. It took most of that time to finally find the correct medication. Depending on which med you are taking, the wait time for it to begin to be effective (if it's going to), varies widely from drug to drug. I am on a mood stabilizer called, "Lamictal". My psychiatrist warned me at the start, that Lamictal commonly takes between 4 to 6 MONTHS to show any benefits! I about died on the spot when I heard this.
Avatar f tn I have not heard of Lamictal worsening depression. But it needs to be at least 150 mg. for you to even begin to see an affect so symptoms will return in the meantime including depression. If at a full dose of Lamictal you still feel depressed or if the depression worsens then you can discuss the issue with your psychiatrist then. There are other options as regading mood stabilizers but they are less in use. They are all listed on sites on the links page.
