739988 tn?1386672969 Try 6 small meals a day with a protien and carb in small portions. I take ayprexa and I have lost 46 pounds and I am not diabetic I love my zyprexa and I am not going to give it up. I did gain weight at first on it but I have since lost the weight. It is possible to keep the weight off on zyprexa.
Avatar m tn My doctor has put me on Lamictal 25mg in the morning with my usual morning dose of Efexor 150mg. He has also put me on Zyprexa 5mg to help me sleep, as my sleep has been very broken, and I became very anxious. Will it be difficult to come off Zyprexa as I don't want to be permanently on this ? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Lamictal is a mood stabilizer with anti-depressant qualities - some even say it works better then other classes of anti-depressants - Zyprexa and Lamictal are both common treatments for bipolar. If the BP is hard to treat, there may be other meds added on, but she's on a good combination. Ask your pharmacist as well.
874521 tn?1424116797 From what I remember Depakoate and Zyprexa both were extremely sedating for me and Depakoate in general works better on mania than depression. But its better to wait to speak to his psychiatrist before making any changes. Abilify is an antipsychotic that is the least sedating and Lamictal is less sedating than Depakoate and works better on depression. You could ask his psychiatrist about that.
Avatar f tn I just take Zyprexa alone and it works for me. I am lucky I only need 2.5 mg it has a pretty strong effect on me. Because of the weight gain I want to know if anyone has found an alternative that works as well as zyprexa?
Avatar n tn 75mg zyprexa, 50mg Topimax, 300mg Seroquel, and 350mg Trileptal at nightime. I take 300mg Lamictal and 350mg Trileptal every morning. I sleep all night, and want to sleep more. I've had bloodwork done the past few months and my thyroid always comes back alright. I see my counselor every other week, but it is really difficult to get a work in appointment with my psychiatrist. He's always booked for the next 3 months and it's very frustrating for me.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I too tried Zyprexa, Trileptal and Tegretol, none of which helped with the depression-- they were just too sedating, and Zyprexa made me gain weight. Lamictal does not seem to have that effect, however, but you'll have to try it out and see. Good Luck! Hang in there too!
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
Avatar f tn I just started it. 150mg at bedtime. Right now I'm at a healthy weight of 120 and am 5'4. I also take 300mg of lamictal and 2mg of clonazepam as needed. Did serequel make you gain? I'd rather not gain weight.
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
Avatar f tn s making me absolutely miserable and I feel like I am going insane. I have seen a doctor who has prescribed me Latuda and Lamictal. I started out taking Zoloft but it made me much more manic which is how the bi polar diagnosis was made. In addition to the racing thoughts, extreme anxiety I am also severely depressed to the point I am not functioning well. Before the Latuda I was on Zyprexa which made me suicidal. My question is could the Latuda be contributing to the racing thoughts?
Avatar n tn I would definately try abiliify and what dose did they start the lamictal at cause you have to start at 25mg and work your way up to prevent what happened to you. I switced from tegretol to lamictal do to tegretal interacting with all my other meds. but that is another mood stabalizer that works quite well.
Avatar f tn Lithium is a first line mood stabilizer and Zyprexa has a good effect in this area but for me Lamictal had the best effect on rapid cycling but as each person responds differently to each medication speak to your psychiatrist about available options. Keep a mood tracker here as well and print out the results for them to assist with them knowing exactly what is going on.
1255505 tn?1272819115 But I kept falling and getting hurt on seraqul broke my arm and tore meniscus in my knee... I just got put on lamictal zyprexa n gabapentin thr zyprexa and gab are supose to be temporary but the gabapentin helps so much.. I have been having headaches though bit still safer then lithium especially since I m on methadone it would destroy my liver.
Avatar n tn ) it is I amm on it for depression and anxiety- and lamictal for bi polar and buspar for anxiety ; )
874521 tn?1424116797 my son spiraled badly 3 wks ago and was put on zyprexa(now 10mg) and valporate(1000mg) the first week he was full of anxiety...couldn't settle, just paced the floor yet he was depressed and cried alot too. was told this was a mixed state of BP. the second-part of 3rd week he stabilized but in an extreme depression....so low he could barely get dressed or eat, but he pushed himself and even worked. Now a little into the 3rd week he is still depressed although not as bad...
698408 tn?1256958348 If given a choice between an antipsychotic (Zyprexa) and a mood stabilizer (Depakoate) I would choose Depakoate. Zyprexa does have the risk of tardive dyskinesia. If a person needs an antipsychotic of course they have to take one but Depakoate does not have that risk. Zyprexa also has a severe risk for diabetes. All of the atypicals do but Zyprexa is most likely to.
Avatar f tn the other 3 I cant remember but it made me feel so doped up I switched docs and and she put me on 2 celexa and zyprexa and they have worked wonderful for me. No dopey drugged feeling. Just nice stable everyday normal living. Its seems to me that alot of docs tend to overprescribe when all is need for bi polar is a good mood stabilizer and a good anti depressant I could be wrong since I am not a doc . I am just a bi polar (in remission lol)who has been on alot of meds.
Avatar n tn As anti-psychotics can create diabetes and tardive dyskinesia if a person has straight bipolar (as opposed to bipolar with psychotic features where an anti-psychotic is absolutely needed) there is the potential to change to a mood stabilizer, none of which have the risk of creating tardive dyskinesia and out of all of them Lamictal has the least potential for weight gain and is generally safe and effective. Perhaps you could ask your psychiatrist about Lamictal.
1257808 tn?1322762215 When I was on Lamictal and Seroquel, my psychiatrist stopped it due to leukopenia (low white blood cells). Now again with new meds (zyprexa and citalopram) I have leukopenia.
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with bipolar disorder since 2012 and I've gone through 4 hospitalizations due to the manic/psychotic breaks. I've also suffered a few milder hypomanias during last 6 years but I feel exhausted ALL the time I'm not in a mania. I could sleep for hours and still feel extremely tired. It's gone as far as I am calling sick from time to time because I literally am not capable of getting out of bed.
Avatar n tn Went to therapist today, then to prescribing Phyciatrist changed meds to immediate Zyprexa 10mil to calm her down and Lithium. She has only taken the 10mil of Zyprexa and is totally out of it (like drunk or something) sleeping. I'm worried.....already know to cut down the Zyprexa but am afraid to even give her the lithium. Please help...all I get is the same run around and answers from every dr. even the hospital ER....Can you advise what to do?
Avatar n tn I'm on Lithium, and it's a very safe drug - extremely high doses have to be monitored careful, like many other drugs. I get my blood sugars checked for Seroqual, which I don't mind, it's a fantastic drug along with Lithium. I was on Lamactil alone but I became suicidal again, my pdoc put me on 300mgs of Lithium and it was only 2 days and wow what a difference. Since then, I've only had minimal depression. .
497950 tn?1255863927 I am on zyprexa and celexa for my bi polar and they work great. I did gain in the beginning but I have lost it through exercise and 6 healthy meals a day. you can keep from gaining on the zyprexa. Plus I decided that I would rather be stable with the weight than skinny and in jail.
Avatar f tn I take Effexor XR, Celexa and Risperdal. When the p-doc added the Celexa I had mania for a week. I have been on this cocktail for a couple of months and only one other issue with mania but it only lasted 3-4 days and was not too severe. I can tell you my depression is 100 times better with the additional anti- depressant. Best of luck to you and I hope you find success with the new cocktail.
Avatar f tn I take zyprexa and celexa and I have been stable for 7 years on this combo and the therapy is priceless. It gives you the tools to understand the illnes and deal with it. and definaltly get you thryoid checked as a malfunctioning thryoid will present itself as mental illness. ask for the full panel tests inclucding TSH t3 t4 and antibodies. Let meknow what you find out.I hope and pray things straigtenout for you. try the healthy changes they help alot and cut down the need for so much meds.
Avatar n tn I just posted this on another website - I figure what the heck - the more the merrier! I will copy and paste! (It seems that more people are out and about here_ So, I want to make this a short post but don't know how I will manage that! About 4 or 5 years ago I became very very depressed. There was a lot of things going on - it was horrible.
Avatar n tn Hes putting me on geodon to try and get me off zyprexa and to see if i get better sleep. I am on 30 mg of zyprexa right now and life has been better, cause at one time i was on 40 mg. With all the medications I am on I still don't sleep that well. We both think I'm over medicated. The doctor says that I need to calm down and relax and wait for them to work and then he will start to slowly reduce my amounts and how much medications i am on. the objective right now is to fisrt stablize me.
