Lamictal and tics

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal and tics

lamictal

5764859 tn?1400881756 I have started noticing "tics" and they are a minor annoyance however I am concerned they could get worse. I have no idea if since starting on lamictal would cause this? I used to have these terribly when I would be around others and felt very nervous/anxious however that was 30 years ago. If anyone here suffers from these and is on lamictal, please message me.
Avatar n tn tics also, but they went away and the motor tics remain and seemed to be increasing. He is taking Lamictal and Focalin XR and so far the psychiatrist thinks that it is not Tourette's. We are going to see a neurologist in a couple weeks. Is there any other help out there or something else that we could be doing. Lamictal is for his mood disorder and Focalin is for his ADHD. It you have any insight or answers, we would appreciate it.
Avatar n tn my dr just put me on sonata for sleep and i am being treated for add w/ritalin,lamictal for bpd, wellbrutrin depression, and nerourotin for nerve pain and a few days ago i started grinding my teeth together, looks like i am chewing gum all the time and i also am making grunting sounds.
Avatar f tn I am on Lamictal 150 mg. I just reached this dosage yesterday. For the past two weeks as I have slowly increased dosage, I noticed that my hands, lips, and eyes were swollen. I am also having allergy-like nasal problems. This morning, my eyes were almost swollen shut. Could I be allergic to this drug? All I was warned about by my psychiatrist was a severe rash.
Avatar f tn My son for the last 2 weeks has had episode that last only for about a minute but he sometimes falls forward while sitting and then he turns his head to the left about every 10 seconds for a minute and then he stops,,,He seems to be tired after this episode. .I notice that he does it when he is tired....He is a brain cancer survivor and was dx in 2003 ..Any idea what this can be. He is on lamictal among other meds....Any ideas what it cold be....
Avatar f tn About 3 weeks later she started what looked like tics at first - neck and head jerking - and they worsened. Then they began to look more like partial seizures - since they became more forceful, rapid, and were always to the right side. When we discovered the medication error, we immediately put her back on Lamictal 50 mg BID, and added Clonipin, .5 or 1.0 mg to help with the head jerking.
874521 tn?1424116797 Lamictal can occasionally cause extra pyramidal side effects and as an adverse side effect tardive dyskinesia. That is where I acquired it from. Go to the medication website (the prescription information part) under "adverse side effects" and print that out for your psychiatrist. They can determine whether its e.p.s. (in which case it can be treated with a side effect pill) or tardive which means it must be changed to another medication.
Avatar m tn I am wondering if this is a plausible cause. He was also on Risperdal and Depakote and Trileptal and Terazadone and Lamictal, of course not all at the same time. I am sure I spelled all these meds wrong. We are having trouble finding any professional who will take an active interest in the urgency of our problem with both the aggression and the onset of these tic behaviors. We really need some help.
Avatar f tn My daughter has concentration problems and some memory loss on her medications but finds those side effects tolerable in comparison to cycling. She takes Lithium 1200 mg (split 600am/900pm), Lamictal 100pm and Adderall XR 10mg AM. She also takes a multivitamin, calcium, biotin, birth control, and zantac. She was on Geodon 80 mg (gained 30lbs and no improvement) and zoloft 50mg... with all the other stuff she was on. That was from August until mid December.
Avatar n tn However, within the past year she has started displaying frequent motor tics and recently vocal tics. Her motor tics started with blinking/rolling her eyes. They have progressed to neck shrugs and hand twists. Lately, she makes a "un" gutteral sound. The vocal tics are occuring as often as 1-2 times a minute. Is there any connection between her early seizures and tics?
Avatar f tn ve been reading about food allergies/intolerence to certain foods causing Tourettes tics...some claim the tics completely stopped after getting off dairy and/or gluten.
Avatar m tn I have tourrette's and to be honest, whenever I drink, my motor tics (I blink a lot and shake my head a bit) seem to bother me the lease. Even when I just have a few beers and have a little buzz going, I hardly notice them at all. I've even done some experimenting where before I start drinking, I'll notice myself needing to twitch quite often. Then I'll have like 2 beers, I'll find myself not feeling the urge to tic at all.
Avatar m tn Hello, For the past 3+ weeks i've noticed in association with my frequent headaches (daily) i am getting a "tic" or twitch in the neck. It is quick and unnoticed by others (so far). The tic seems to mainly occur when i'm having or about to have a headache. I did go to the doctor regarding this (walk-in clinic) and she stated that there was a lot of strep going around and had to be the cause of my headaches with no explanation of my "tics".
Avatar f tn I have two children with Tourestte's - one with Asperger's. My dad has Tourette's. I had Tourette's as a kid - the tics aren't the big deal - the underlying problems behind the tics are. They see doctors that specialize in Tourette's. My children's tics did not start until 5 or 6. My son's tics which involved hand licking and sniffing pretty much disappeared by 9. My daughter had throat clearing and also a hand lick.
Avatar f tn 5 years he has been involved with pot (it helps his tics) and then moved on to meth. He said he was very focused on the meth and it did not bother his tics. I am completely puzzeled how adderall could have bothered his tics and on meth did not????? He said he is sure his tics were not worse on Meth, he was around people while on the meth and they would have told him??
Avatar m tn other possibilities are chromosomal disorders like down syndrome, kleinfelter’s syndrome, etc. acquired causes of tics include drug induced tics, head trauma, stroke etc. Tests to rule out other conditions like EEG, hypothyroidism, MRI, urine drug screen for cocaine and stimulants. If a positive family history of liver disease, serum copper and ceruloplasmin levels can rule out Wilson’s disease. Consult a neurologist for a detailed evaluation and management. Take care.
449440 tn?1206887304 i have both of these and was wondering if there was a medication that would help with me having to twitch my nose while breathing out my nose real hard a lot it gives me headachs but the doc said the meds could give me even worse ticks
Avatar n tn He does this so hard that his neck has started to make a cracking sound and he is usually in tears by the end of the day. His father and our older son have minor motor Tics (blinking of the eyes, shrugging of the shoulders, opening of the mouth, etc.) and I have brought our 4 yr old to a Neurologist who diagnosed him with the Tic Disorder. I have not experienced such a bad Tic before and was wondering if anyone has any advice for treatment.
612551 tn?1450022175 d spot tics on his fur and picked them off, and with my pocket scissors knife cut the little bug in half.
Avatar n tn THat just makes him rethink about those tics and then he starts sniffing and throat clearing again. Tics are tricky like that. Good luck.
997928 tn?1252444237 I've done okay with lamictal, but lamictal and celexa, not so good. And now lamictal with wellbutrin, not so good. At least I think it's not the lamictal. I know my PsychNP put a big no in her notes regarding me and celexa.

Avatar f tn has anyone had stomach problems with lithium and lamictal while takimg them at the same time?.....
Avatar f tn I have been on lamictal 100mg to 150mg, and I haven't noticed any facial hair growth, although I think my hair is thinning out. When I take a shower and put cream rinse in and work it thru, I have lots of hair coming out.
Avatar n tn He is very good at keeping in his vocal and motor tics when in public and with his friends but now he cannot do that. His motor and vocal tics are worse than ever. He has lost his voice completely because of the loud vocal tics day and night and his whole body lifts off the ground/bed from his motor tics which occur every 4 or 5 seconds. He is exhusted and so am i as i have to hold him at night and reassure him that he will get better.
Avatar f tn Hello, you will want to have him sit down with a doctor and the decision will be made based on observation and asking you specifics about when it happens. Tics are involuntary, and can be suppressed only for short periods of time (after which the person usually experiences a 'burst' of tics). They tend to occur across settings and contexts, and can be vocal or motor. They have a jerky look to them and last only part of a second.
Avatar f tn It should work once it reaches an appropriate dose. Occassionally at higher dosages Lamictal can sometimes worsen mania but it takes time and a psychiatrist has to see how they are responding in general. Keep a mood tracker here and print out the results for your psychiatrist and ask them to follow up.
