Lamictal and the sun

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal and the sun

lamictal

1134609 tn?1269272200 I am BP2; I tend to teeter towards the 'up' side of things; hypomania, agitated-mania, and mixed episodes (these shifts are pure hell for me). However, I had my first real bad down shift in moods two weeks ago. I've probably posted this story before, but I woke up one morning, worked out, at, too my meds and multivitamins/fish oil and went to work. I'd been feeling kind of down as the weather has been bad, but it was alright.
Avatar f tn I too, have seizures like your son. But I get feelings of deja-vu. Afterwords, I have trouble with the memory, spelling, numbers, writing. Sometimes it lasts a day or so. They are referred to as 'Deja Vu' seizures. Lamictal works great for me. My neurologist slowly built me up from a minimal dosage, to a larger one - due to risks involved, such as the rash. He wanted to see if I developed any negative side effects.
Avatar m tn I had this kind of rash before - it is probably sun allergy. I burnt my arm in the summer and the rash comes back to that place very often. With Lamictal it was just in more places. AT the moment I have no rash. I am so far on 150 mg as I started 3 months ago. I have also Citalopram 20 mg. Lamictal is helpful and suits me well - even thought I had some crash recently - therefore increase to 150 mg but I think it is just a process to find the right dose. Some ppl are on 200 mg or even 400 mg.
Avatar m tn m scared to talk with anyone about them. The plan with the doctor is to get off and see what happens and possibly switch to depakote. any insights?? thank you again.
6827092 tn?1389384819 DEFINITELY, you have to go to the ER now and bring your lamictal and other meds with you. You have to go now, because if it is the bad rash, you have to be treated immediately. I got the bad rash, and we caught it in time. It isn't for the psychiatrist to treat but a medicine M.D. I am 12 hours behind your post, so I hope you followed Lexis advise. If it isn't something to worry about, let the doctor decide that, not you. They have to look at it. That is what happened to me.
1134609 tn?1269272200 So, I am BP2, with a tendency to rapid cycle. I have been having issues again; trying to give up chew caused me to start cycling again. I am currently on 200mgs of Lamictal, 1.5 mgs of Klonopin and 1600 mgs of Neuontin. Last week, we tried increasing the dose of Lamictal as it's the only medication that's evened me out completely. I got the extra 50mg dose refilled and took it later in the day, after taking my normal 200mg dose in the morning. The 50 mg dose evened me out very well.
561374 tn?1234486061 Hey I'm on Lexapro now and the only side effects I have are feeling tired a lot, some weight gain, and heat rash in the sun. Otherwise, it's helping a lot.
Avatar f tn Hello All! I am really hoping that someone can help me with information on this. I recently found out (about 3 weeks ago) that I am pregnant - quite by surprise and we all know what that means - wasn't taking great care of myself. I even fasted a couple of days trying to lose weight! Anyway, I drank over the course of this time - I don't think anything too crazy but I honestly wasn't keeping track. My psychotropics are what I'm really afraid of.
997928 tn?1252444237 I was thinking that maybe I just need to take the Lamictal and not take the celexa since the lamictal is weight neutral.. Does anyone taking Lamictal think it will work for my mood swings?
Avatar m tn Sedation also a lot less of a problem. I think you know about the potential of a rare rash and that is 1 in a thousand and goes down to far less than that after 6 months. Basically, its not something to be highly concerned about but report any rash to your doctor. However, it is essential to follow the titration schedule for raising it for that reason. It will take a while to build up to a proper dose so in the meantime if you feel manic something else could be added.
Avatar f tn has anyone had stomach problems with lithium and lamictal while takimg them at the same time?.....
Avatar f tn I figured maybe it was just my course of growth and development (aside from the Lamictal) that caused the abundance of facial hair. Yesterday my new dermatologist questioned "have you always had this much facial hair?" OK- so now I'm sure I'm not being paranoid, and I do have an abnormal amount of facial hair... She said the androgens from the Lamictal could stimulate hair growth, and I should consider going on a second form of birth control.
Avatar f tn m outta the woods on that one. I spoke to my OB or the nurse and she talked to the docs and called me back. They just told me what I already knew and that it was a low dose so I should be fine. I didn't mention the possibility of them putting me on Risperidal because well they havent done it yet, and maybe I can manage without it. I pray, but I dont think so. My anger out bursts have gotten bad. Like people pushing my buttons, I tried to punch my DH in the face for pushing my buttons.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed Bipolar II with minor depression and was put on Lamictal teetering up 25 mg every 2 weeks with 150mg Wellbutrin (Zyban) the aim was to reach 200mg and see how I feel, by the start of the seventh week, I got tiny itchy patches on my cheeks that flaired up after I took the Lamictal… so stopped lamictal, (remained on the wellbutrin) and went on an antihistamine (Atarax) for a 2 weeks 25/50mg, did some surface (72 hour skin contact) allergy tests and came negative for Lamictal so I w
Avatar f tn Give yourself time to adjust to the Lamictal. I had a similar feeling when I first started taking it (it was just such a relief to not be so horribly depressed), but that has leveled off since then, and now I barely notice it. Talk to your doctor if it continues to be a problem.
Avatar m tn I made the mistake of stopping two meds and replacing them with one. I was taking Bupropion and Lamictal, and switched to Effexor. I have been on Effxor for three weeks. I have had the worst fatigue I have ever felt. So now I am unsure if it was coming off the Lamictal or if it was the Effexor. I am going to stop the Effexor, but I don't know if I should go back on just the Lamictal, The lamictal When I first started taking it, up to 200 mg worked fairly well.
471161 tn?1317190950 I too was told by my rheumy a year ago to stay out of the sun, when I was first diagnosed. I'm an outdoor person with a perpetual tan and never burn. I can always be found working in the yard, or in the pool in the summer. Last summer I stayed out of the sun from July on because of his warning. Recently I asked my PCP why I needed to stay out of the sun, what would happen if I didn't, etc?.
Avatar f tn Also if you were on Prozac and he added the Lamictal, maybe the Prozac was not working as well by itself. You probably already know this but antidepressants are known for making many people Manic. I'm very glad this has not happened to you.
Avatar n tn I have been on lamictal for about 1 yr and have started smoking marijuana often again over the last 3 months... I was previously taking 125 mg of Lamictal, 100mg prozac and est. 2-4 mg of xanax a day- Now with the help of my doctor I am down to just 75 mg daily of Lamictal and no other meds, but like I said- marijuana.
Avatar n tn Ive been on lamictal for around 5 months. added to depakote and has changed my life (diagnosis bipolar). i can actually get off the couch. I have been trying to lose weigth for a while with no avail. Started lamictal: nausea and some light cramping. although hungry, sometimes I can't eat. Am down from 118# to 112# and continue to fall without effort. even eating chocolate. just wondering if I should be concerned something else is going on.
Avatar f tn My question is, when God willing the time comes, what is the track record with these drugs and pregnancy and breast feeding?
484508 tn?1290010544 So how long were you on Lamictal, and why did you decide to taper....What were you going trhough.
Avatar f tn Lamictal worked for a long time for me. Many people I know have taken Lamictal long term and things have worked out well. Lamictal is generally used long term and works that way. Sometimes its just a matter of getting medications fine tuned and then its okay after that.
Avatar f tn I am on 200mg of lamictal and am keen to try ipl hair removal. Beautician thinks the lamictal in my system might cause bad side effects such as blistering. Has anyone had experiences with this hair removal treatment whilst taking this med?
473760 tn?1215219977 The biggest side effect for the Lamictal is the rash that can occur in the beginning doses, and I have never heard of cysts being caused by it. However, the stress of having bipolar could certainly be effecting your body. If the Lamictal is working well for your bipolar though, I would hate for you to stop it. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn I have the same symtoms..and under active thyroid. I love the sun and outdoor events, but I get soooo drained and tired. I drink plenty of water and I sleep great..dont make sence? I take Synthroid and my dr say my thyroid levels are fine. I guess I just have to pace myself?
640719 tn?1277140030 I too have the tingly burning sensation after 10 days on doxy and being at beach for one hr.. its on the tops of my hands and feet! If you don't want this feeling don t go in the sun! And I don't burn from the sun.. just finished meds today was on it for an abscecc brewing in my neck.. so I don't think its lyme disease related...
