lamictal and drinking

Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.

Namaste, From your post I assume that you suffer from bipolar disorder since you are taking Lamictal. Excessive use of alcohol with any medication can not only change the effect of the medication, but can also be dangerous. And yes, alcohol abuse will certainly cause damage to your brain cells slowly dissolving your ability to concentrate and your memory. If you currently drink to a point where you have blackouts, you're on very dangerous ground.

Hey, so my birthday is coming up and a big group of us is going to the casino and I know I'll end up drinking. Does anyone know the interactions with alcohol, lamictal, abilify, and ativan? If they're too serious I'll just tell my boyfriend not to let me drink. Any help would be great!

t want to get out of bed, no patience and random crying. I went on a drinking binge for almost 2 months. Not stupid drunk, just drinking every night a couple of drinks. I am not drinking now, still have the craving for it ( cravings had gone away when I started taking the Lamitical ). I know better than to drink when I am taking anti-depressants. Can you take more than 200mg for Bipolar? I thought that was the therapeutic dose for bipolar and anymore was a waste. I'm losing my mind again.

Also, one of the HUGE warnings that is with Lamictal is NO DRINKING. Lamictal is one that actually slows your brain and adding a depressant like alcohol is a horrible thing to do to your body! Good Luck!

Now last week I saw a new neuro for some seizure medicine complications and he is going to wean me off the Topamax and slowly put me on Lamictal, which I have begun, I am only on 25mg right now. Today I had a very small amount of alcohol, a mixed rum beverage, which I mixed myself, and I felt absolutley awful. My face turned bright red, I felt very flushed, and I felt out of sorts after drinking it.

Still experiencing headaches, but shakiness and insomnia have cleared. I plan on drinking more water and taking a bath with Epsom salts to detox, and to do some yoga as well today to help the process along. Thanks again!

Hello, I just came across this site and was glad to see that so many people are just like me! (Sorry, I guess misery loves company.) I am currently experiencing withdrawls from Cymbalta, which my regular medical doctor had me on. My new psychiatrist weaned me off it, but I still am feeling achy, itchy, nauseous, and having gastro-intestinal issues along with those weird "brain shocks" that others have described here.

I have been on Lamictal for 10 years and take 400 mg a day. 200 in am and 200 in pm. I really notice if I don't take it. It has worked great for me. If I am hyper it calms me down. A friend of mine can't take it. So, everyone is different. If you feel worse with it than without it talk with your Doc. There are other mood stabilizers out there that may work better for YOU.

I recently started taking a cocktail of 3 AEDs---Dilantin,Lamictal,and Keppra.I've noticed that recently my urine has a very strong and foul odor.Does anyone know why? Has anyone else noticed a similar side effect? Is this something to be alarmed at?

I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.

I've done okay with lamictal, but lamictal and celexa, not so good. And now lamictal with wellbutrin, not so good. At least I think it's not the lamictal. I know my PsychNP put a big no in her notes regarding me and celexa.

now I am still on a low dose of lamictal 75mg and am going to be raising the dose again in 2 weeks. My dr. told me that if lamictal doesnt work that lithium is my last resort. I really do NOT want to be on lithium. does anyone else know of some meds that might help. keep in mind that ssri's and snri's dont agree with me. sorry for rambling I am on one of my highs.

I have been on lamictal 100mg to 150mg, and I haven't noticed any facial hair growth, although I think my hair is thinning out. When I take a shower and put cream rinse in and work it thru, I have lots of hair coming out.

I been burning since 10 pm this happens every night goes on for hrs my anxiety is rising and I just stop burping..What is the cause of this? I take lamictal for seizures,xaxan invega, it is my meds do this,seizures??

It should work once it reaches an appropriate dose. Occassionally at higher dosages Lamictal can sometimes worsen mania but it takes time and a psychiatrist has to see how they are responding in general. Keep a mood tracker here and print out the results for your psychiatrist and ask them to follow up.

I was taking Bupropion and Lamictal, and switched to Effexor. I have been on Effxor for three weeks. I have had the worst fatigue I have ever felt. So now I am unsure if it was coming off the Lamictal or if it was the Effexor. I am going to stop the Effexor, but I don't know if I should go back on just the Lamictal, The lamictal When I first started taking it, up to 200 mg worked fairly well. I guess my question is, is , has this kind of fatigue been know to be a side effect with Effexor?

It is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper management. Drinking plenty of fluids may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.

I have seen a ENT doc and my hearing is perfect, nothing else is wrong, only the Lamictal that I am on. My doc one day said oh the ringing could be because of the lamictal which made me start obsessing over it, did not help, and now I have started weening myself off the lamictal but it is not an easy road. I was on 100mg then went down to 50mg for a week now I am down to 25 mg and valuim to take edge off, I hate the way I am feeling and the panic attacks or anxiety are hard.

I struggled with repetative harmful thoughts although I do not use marijuana. I am on lamictal also, and my doctor added Abilify when I started having this problem. It helped me out a lot. I hope he feels better soon! I know how hard it is to deal with such negative thoughts.

Ive been on lamictal for around 5 months. added to depakote and has changed my life (diagnosis bipolar). i can actually get off the couch. I have been trying to lose weigth for a while with no avail. Started lamictal: nausea and some light cramping. although hungry, sometimes I can't eat. Am down from 118# to 112# and continue to fall without effort. even eating chocolate. just wondering if I should be concerned something else is going on.
