701160 tn?1228413523 Pre-patella bursitis or "housemaid's knee" is quite common in laborers who work on their knees such as carpet installers or tile men. It is also common in wrestlers, as you've already found out. This ailment is an irritation of the bursa in front of the kneecap (patella) and results in a collection of fluid within the bursa, and thickening of the bursal tissue itself. These are often treated with ice and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication.
Avatar m tn It might be the meniscus, it might be patella tendonitis, it might be just a strain. When I hurt my knee the first time, it happened running, and I gotta tell you, I still haven't gotten a definite diagnosis of it, it can be tricky. I've been told it was a sprain, tendonitis, a torn meniscus, and shoulder shrugs.
Avatar n tn Improper seat position is a common cause of patella problems. Be sure that your far leg is almost fully extended, about 5 degrees bent at the knee. Icing after riding can also be helpful. In addition, the use of a patella stabilizing brace for riding may be useful. If the pain persists, see an orthopedist.
Avatar m tn He also suggested waiting as long as possible for knee replacement so hopefully the brace helps- he did say there were more specialized Patella support braces available also- Can you recommend any if this one seems to help the situation???
Avatar n tn I fell hard on my kneecaps directly on tile and MRI showed patella Tendonitis and Chondromalacia. Does anyone know any treatments except NASIDS , COLD PACK AND REST?
Avatar f tn I had an x-ray that shows a minor lateral patella tracking but my knee cap does not hurt. I have had this for a year, what can I do to fix this and go back to sport?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with patella tendonitis in both knees in Apr2009, I did some rehab but it was not sucessful. My IT band started bothering me so they did a lateral release on it which was surgical. The tendonitis is still as chronic as ever a year later. I have had 24 session of rehab which included, stretching, ultrasound, ice/electo stim and exercises. My knees still hurt the same as they did before. I have had an MRI dont and it didnt show the tendonitis.
Avatar m tn I'm 15 and I have Patella Femoral Syndrome and really bad tendonitis. I went to two doctors already and they said its one of the worst cases they have ever seen. I am a cheerleader and I had a competition yesterday and I was tumbling and my knee gave out on me and then a couple hours later my knee was getting sharp pains and I looked down and my whole knee was purple and blue. I was just wondering if this is normal with tendonitis and the patella femoral syndrome?
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Gross, I had a total knee replacement 1 year ago for severe arthritis. The pain is still there and I can't walk right, also my knee cap keeps going out and I fall or almost fall. My Ortho gave me a brace to wear and PT to go to, to streng. then muscles around the knee. It hasn't helped. My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? Is that a norm? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas why this is happening.
Avatar m tn I am a cheerleader and I have patella femoral syndrome and a bad case on tendonitis. After every competition and practice my knee swells up and turns purple. I have gotten x rays and nothing is wrong and i have seen 2 orthopedics. They said its one of the worst cases they have ever seen. I was just wondering if if I didn't take anytime off to rest my knee what's the worst possible thing that could happen?
Avatar m tn You should go ahead and have the open knee surgury. I was diagnosed with patella tendonitis last December and was prescribed the patella brace which i wore playing basketball for 6 months. However, the knee continued to be really sore. I'd gently work it out after bball with leg extensions on the nautilus machine which seemed to help. However on June 30, I completely ruptured the patella tendon going up for a layup.
Avatar f tn s knee, chondromalacia patella, anterior knee pain syndrome, patella femoral syndrome. Certainly, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, generalized ligamentous laxity, could be a contributing factor. In general, treatment for patellafemoral problems begins conservatively, and only progresses to surgical options if nonoperative treatment is unsuccessful. Treatment usually starts with physical therapy aimed at strengthening the quadriceps, and stretching contacted soft tissue structures.
Avatar n tn Got into my second week of tennis, ended up having the same knee pains as i did in august. Went to new doctor and he said i had Severe Patellar tendonitis. Said he could inject my patella tendons with plasma to help them heal faster but wanted to do that for last resort. Went back and kept playing tennis.... Then had very very bad knee pains (sharp pain, stiffness, hard to get up, etc.) Went back to the doc and got a new MRI. He told me that i have a partially torn patellar tendon...
Avatar f tn I have had knee pain in both my knees since I was 13 years old. It started off as cartilage wearing out. In 2015 I revisited the doctor after 7 years with knee pain once again. My PCP said I had a Patella Tracking Disorder. Fast forward to 2016 and I had an MRI done that revealed a Level One ACL injury along with cartilage damage as well as Tendonitis and Bursitis.
Avatar m tn s baseball season and had no other problems and the knee appears sound. Recently he dove for a ball and his knee swelled up over the weekend. From what I can gather it sounds like a contusion to the same knee. Is this type of swelling unusual and to be expected? He doesn't where any type of brace at the advise of the surgeon. What advise can you provide?
Avatar m tn Thank you for all the information you gave me! I did find a knee brace at home that my father was given after he had meniscus surgery. I am really hoping that i will not need the same, i have scheduled an appointment for this coming week and will let you know how everything goes. Once again, i appreciate your reply!
Avatar f tn You may also require a knee brace to stabilize the patella if suggested. At this stage I would advise seeing an orthopedician and after an evaluation a management plan can be drafted accordingly. Hope this is useful. Take care!
Avatar f tn There are several parts to the knee area, and it could be any one of them. Could be meniscus. Could be patella tendonitis. Could be cysts. You need pictures and a diagnosis based on what movements make it hurt. My guess is, you're going to end up in physical therapy.
Avatar m tn Most probably it is tendonitis, infection of tendon. Visit an orthopaedician and start your tretment, as it is a nagging pain and as you are suggesting the position, muscles taper into a tendon and are inserted into the knee joint, so any irrritation, infection causes Tendonitis.
Avatar m tn I felt pretty unstable after that. I kept my knee straight as I walked to sit down. When I sat, I bent my knee and my knee just... locked? I felt like some bone came out of socket and stick out of my skin. I flinched and extended my leg and it snapped back. It has happened every time since then when i bend my knee. The pain is EXCRUCIATING. My doctor is out of town until next Saturday and I only feel comfortable with him.
Avatar m tn I have been having knee pain for about 1 and a half months now and the doctor's said it's nothing with my bones. I still haven't had an MRI yet and my football coach thinks it's one of three things: Osgood-Schlatter's disease my growth plate is fractured. I forget the third one though. Right under my knee cap hurts when I do too much exercise. It almost feels like there is also a pressure in my knee. Can anybody tell me what they think is going on and if my coach is right?
4817742 tn?1359564366 The pain in knee could be due to patella chondromalacia or injury and subsequent softening of patella. It can cause fissures too. The treatment is pretty controversial. However, you need to give rest to the joint for extended period of time and use anti-inflammatory pain medication. Application of ice pack also reduces inflammation and keeping the leg elevated keeps the pressure off the knee.
