Avatar f tn I agree with Sandman, and found this website on the possible side effects of the ketogenic diet. It is apparently not to be used in the long term, as it doesn't provide adequate nutrition for a growing child. Side effects include hyperactivity, irritability and constipation (which as Sandman noted can result in encopresis, involuntarily soiling). I'm also interested in your statement "she's just like me".
6990909 tn?1435275816 Has anybody tried a ketogenic diet for health issues? I'm just trying to find holistic ways to deal with RA. I have tried focusing on foods with anti-inflammatory properties but am continuing the search. Thanks for your input!

Avatar f tn This is going to really get Gymdandee going, which is fun, but there's no such thing as the Paleo diet. It's made up by people trying to make money. I don't know if there are any long-term studies that would give some idea how well it works for health and long-term weight loss, but nobody in the world eats like that naturally and nobody ever did. Certainly no "paleo" people. And "paleo" diets aren't all the same.
Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.
Avatar f tn t necessarily supply us with the nutrients we need. They are short-term fixes for a long-term problem. Have no idea what's happening with you, but it could be what you're eating is lacking something you need -- sometimes people who lack certain nutrients get weird cravings and odd reactions. Could also just be something completely different, could even be something psychological, as that could also be a factor in why you need to be on a diet in the first place.
Avatar f tn I’ve also been on a ketogenic diet since July and and this week I’ve broken my diet by snacking on a few popsicles and some crackers. I’m worried this weight is going to stick around and I’m very concerned. Help! Ps. Sorry if this is TMI, but I haven’t really pooped much this week. I assumed it was because I haven’t really been eating, but could it be a contributing factor? Thank you!
Avatar n tn My child has had a g-tube for 6 years because of the ketogenic diet in which she is coming off now, she eats everything, no problem with swallowing, she drinks a whole can of pop at times but how do I get her to drink her whole fluid alotment of 1500ml a day? Or will she pick it up once I can offer her a variety of drinks?
Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar n tn t work he will try Topirimate and then has suggested the Ketogenic diet. If he does go on the Ketogenic diet will it mean Jamie going to special clinic. ?
Avatar n tn I started a ketogenic diet on Saturday and the last few days I've been feeling gassy and have slight "cramps", around the belly button area. Why is that?
Avatar m tn Sorry about your son. There is a movie you might want to watch concerning epilepsy. The movie is "First Do No Harm". It is a true story concerning the use of the Ketogenic Diet with good results in treating epilepsy in children. Sure wish you the best with your son.
Tbd Low carb, adequate protein, fat for energy balance - otherwise known as ketogenic of low carb diet. In this diet carbs are typically restricted to 30g or less per day. This diet also includes abundant non-starchy, non-sweet vegetables and plant foods. 2. Very low fat, adequate protein, high carb. This is the plant based and even vegan diet that some are promoting. This diet does not have processed foods.
Tbd key words will be low-carb, and keto. If you do look into ketogenic diet, do not use it as an excuse to eat too much fat; if you want to lose weight fat has to be limited to fats that come naturally with the foods that you eat, rather than lots of extra fats being added. There are now many cases where this has happened (you can look up Virta Health a company that tries to guide patients to do this), and there are also many online supportive communities.
Tbd Some people, including me find that a ketogenic diet (focusing on very low carb, moderate protein, and unprocessed natural fats) is helpful for blood sugar. Aside from exercise, which you are already doing, weight loss, if you are overweight can help in lowering blood sugars. Other than this, you may wish to consult with your dr in case any change in medications can also assist your progress. Hope this helps.
20797525 tn?1510602613 I would also suggest you looking into low carb/ Ketogenic diet. This diet is very helpful for reducing insulin resistance / helping to control blood sugars. Wishing you very well.
Avatar n tn I eat a very low carb, moderate protein, high fat diet, also known as the Ketogenic Diet. Daily, I eat approximately 20g carbs MAX. I have about 60-75g protein, and 100-150g fat depending on how hungry I feel that day. Typically I might eat 5 slices of bacon, a fried egg or two, half an avocado with some salsa, sour cream and maybe shredded cheddar cheese, some roasted chicken thighs with skin on, with some roasted or steamed veggies tossed in butter and seasoned.
Tbd Eat low carb / ketogenic diet. Avoid or strictly sugars, grains, starchy vegetables, and sweet fruits. Use a blood glucose meter to determine the effect of your diet on your blood sugar. This will help you fine tune what foods do and don't affect your blood sugars, and to what degree.
