Avatar f tn My boyfriend weighs in at about 380 pounds. We've been together for 3 years now and he's just the most caring and loving person I have ever met. He does everything for me and I couldn't be happier in our relationship if it wasn't for his rapid weight gain. When we met he weighed about 250 pounds and I accepted that seeing as he was capable of physically doing everything and looked handsome. He's not the skinny type, he has broad shoulders and big bones and is about 5'11.

Avatar m tn You get fat from eating too much sugar and grains Refined carbohydrates promote chronic inflammation in your body, elevate low-density LDL cholesterol, and ultimately lead to insulin and leptin resistance. Insulin and leptin resistance, in turn, is at the heart of obesity and most chronic disease, including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s—all the top killers in the US.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if I am a food addict. If I set my mind to it, I am able to stop eating after a couple of cookies.  I don't usually obsess about food. But I do when I am on a diet. I end up feeling deprived. Then I crave food more than usual. I eventually end up 'falling off the wagon'.  Does this mean that I am a food addict? I need to loose weight - but how do I do this without feeling deprived?

Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?
Avatar n tn My child has had a g-tube for 6 years because of the ketogenic diet in which she is coming off now, she eats everything, no problem with swallowing, she drinks a whole can of pop at times but how do I get her to drink her whole fluid alotment of 1500ml a day? Or will she pick it up once I can offer her a variety of drinks?
Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar m tn These fruits are hardest to digest and can cause fructose intolerance. Excessive fructose can lead to leptin resistance, which could cause weight gain if combined with a high fat and calorie diet. High levels of fructose can also raise blood pressure. Avatar n tn I started a ketogenic diet on Saturday and the last few days I've been feeling gassy and have slight "cramps", around the belly button area. Why is that?
Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.
Tbd Low carb, adequate protein, fat for energy balance - otherwise known as ketogenic of low carb diet. In this diet carbs are typically restricted to 30g or less per day. Avatar f tn When you occasionally consume a higher calorie meal during a diet, your body’s leptin levels increase. As a hormone that keeps your body from thinking it is starving, higher leptin levels lead your body to thinking it is better fed and nourished, encouraging your body to release more fat and body weight as it since longer needs to hold onto those calorie stores. Cheat days give you a break from a strict diet, but it can help you evaluate your relationship to food and eating.
Avatar m tn Sorry about your son. There is a movie you might want to watch concerning epilepsy. The movie is "First Do No Harm". It is a true story concerning the use of the Ketogenic Diet with good results in treating epilepsy in children. Sure wish you the best with your son.
Tbd Eat low carb / ketogenic diet. Avoid or strictly sugars, grains, starchy vegetables, and sweet fruits. Use a blood glucose meter to determine the effect of your diet on your blood sugar. This will help you fine tune what foods do and don't affect your blood sugars, and to what degree.
Avatar m tn Sadly, I haven't heard of anything drug wise to feel satiated. Your body will adapt at one point again, but be gentle, and patient. The only way for your body to relearn this ability again is eating normal sized potions, a healthy balanced diet, and learn to listen into your body again. Take your time while eating (it takes 20 minutes for the signals to get through anyway), chew thoroughly, have no distractions while eating (no tv, book or etc.
Avatar n tn I do not know much about leptin production. However, I do not think the uterus or ovaries produce leptin. Weight gain after hysterectomy is common but I do not know the mechanism. I personally do not have the energy, motivation, vibrancy, love of life I had prior to my hysterectomy so I am not as active. However, I have not gained weight because I do not have an appetite.
