So you might want to kind of check out that. In terms of her behavior, the lyme might be causing many of the problems. But, did she have any of these problems before the lyme disease? She does exhibit symptoms of Sensory Processing Disorder (which could have been started by the Lyme).

Avatar f tn Two questions: I have chronic pain resulting from a craniotomy (had brain surgery for refractory epilepsy and a brain tumor). I see people recommending the drug tramadol....is it helpful? I've tried many different meds, have been going to RUSH pain center in Chicago for 3.5 years (had surgery 8/07), but not tramadol. Drugs have been a little helpful, but no riproaring successes. If tramadol can cause seizures, though, as I might have heard, I won't touch it....
Avatar m tn s epilepsy is a result of his tumor, his epilepsy will most likely remain refractory, i.e. not controlled with medications. Talk to your neurologist (epileptologists are much better...neurologists are pretty pathetic when it comes to epilepsy, unfortunately) about an inhospital surgical workup, find out if your son is a possible surgical candidate.

If they are, chances are his worsening memory issues are a result of his refractory epilepsy, although certain medications can make things worse. Epileptic acticity causes scarring of tissue; the hippocampus is unfotuantely very prone to scar as a result of seizures, and is often an onset sight for refractory complex partial seizures, if that is what your brother in law has.

Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.

Avatar f tn Starting around two years ago, I noticed that alcohol doesn't get me drunk, or even tipsy -- it just gives me body aches, headaches and fatigue. No matter how small the amount. At first I thought this a side effect of the anticonvulsant I take (Keppra) -- the instructions say to avoid alcohol because very serious interactions can occur, although they never specify what those interactions are.
Avatar m tn And it only makes sense to me that not recognizing faces is linked to the epilepsy (and of course, some people may only have prosopagnosia without the epilepsy, or vice versa), since yes, the problem is caused to a traumatism in the same part of the brain!! No need to ask a doctor... These doctors who have studied a lot often don't know what we know, we who live with epilepsy - this is something I've found out too often.

They may place a device under his skin that will send signals to the vagus nerve as an additional treatment option or remove the part of his brain that is causing the seizures as another. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. Your brother has been diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis? This is when the autoimmune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells and causes inflammation of the brain. This is the cause of his seizures?

Many lawsuits have been filed regarding this due to, unfortunately, to public ignorance, fear, and discrimination. And then there is always the ADA, (Americans with Disabilites Act)restored to its full capacity, so to say, last year. Don't let anyone BS you around. THere unfortunately is still a lot of discrimination regarding seizures...
