Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar n tn I personally eat a Ketogenic diet of 20g or less net carbs a day. Most of my diet comes from meat, cheese and non-starchy vegetables. The high levels of fat in my diet help keep me satiated and promotes weight loss. I also tend to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible. I eat gluten free and grain free.

But let's say when you increased protein you started eating a lot of dairy -- that could explain the gas. So could anything you're either allergic to or intolerant to. Let's say you're eating a lot of peanuts -- they can also cause gas in some people. Let's say you started eating a lot of legumes -- if not prepared properly they can add a lot of gas.

Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.

This diet should be very low in carbs (mostly carbs from non-starchy veges, some nuts, full fat dairy), moderate in protein, and with enough fat that you will not be hungry. As many as your body seems to find suitable, but the majority of your food consumption for optimum health, at least as far as we know now by studying actual humans, should be carbs by far, with vegetables and fruits being the most important, but also grains, especially whole grains.

Avatar m tn Irrespective, assuming type 2 diabetes, the treatment will be losing weight if overweight, cutting carbs (particularly sugar, grains, starches - look into low carb / ketogenic diet), exercise, and medications if the previous lifestyle approaches are not sufficient. You can do this.

Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.

An apple and banana are both things I thought was good but they contain carbs that add to my 130. Carrots is another snack I wanted to eat and also has about 10 g.
Avatar n tn Diabeticketoacidosis is caused by very high BG NOT from low carb. it is imposable to eat no carbs lettuce and broccoli have carbs not a lot but some. The point is we dont need to seek out carbs to eat. I eat under 50 gr of carbs a day and have for 13 years. As soon as I got a BG meter and saw what carbs did to my BG I started reducing them to what I eat now.
