Avatar n tn I started a ketogenic diet on Saturday and the last few days I've been feeling gassy and have slight "cramps", around the belly button area. Why is that?
Avatar f tn Nathan was started on a diet for Seizure control...Ketogenic Diet. He had his last grand mal seizure the 3 day on the diet. His muscle and drop seizures ended 2 months later completely, but we noticed they were less harsh with each one he had til they just stopped." - excerpt from KetoGenic Diet for Seizures.
Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.
Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?
Avatar n tn My child has had a g-tube for 6 years because of the ketogenic diet in which she is coming off now, she eats everything, no problem with swallowing, she drinks a whole can of pop at times but how do I get her to drink her whole fluid alotment of 1500ml a day? Or will she pick it up once I can offer her a variety of drinks?
Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar f tn It is an insulin sensitizer. Low carb / ketogenic diet combined with metformin can be a great help in managing diabetes. How is your Hba1c? Normal is ideally close to 5.0, but at least try to get lower than 6.0. If your hba1c is high then there can be many complications. Thus getting your blood sugar to normal levels should be first priority. Telmisaran is a drug for high blood pressure. is your BP high? Losing weight and exercise (again low carb / keto diet), may help with this.
Avatar n tn There is recent research about ketogenic diet and nutritional ketosis being beneficial for management of heart failure and weight loss. You may want to look further into this. Some cardiologists are beginning to support this approach, although some also follow the opposite approach of very low fat, low salt, etc....
Tbd key words will be low-carb, and keto. If you do look into ketogenic diet, do not use it as an excuse to eat too much fat; if you want to lose weight fat has to be limited to fats that come naturally with the foods that you eat, rather than lots of extra fats being added. There are now many cases where this has happened (you can look up Virta Health a company that tries to guide patients to do this), and there are also many online supportive communities.
Tbd Hi, a1c of 6.3 means an average blood sugar of around 140. This is too high. Ideally hab1c should be < 5.0. What to do: 1. Low carb diet (if your body can't handle carbs, then you need to reduce them sticking to mainly non-starchy veges as carb source. Lots of good online info for dietary management - ketogenic / low carb/ modified atkins etc). 2. Daily exercise (including aerobic / weights) 3. Lose weight if overweight.
Avatar f tn These also can work well, and reduce blood sugars / requirements for medications. Please do educate yourself well on these. The current trend for ketogenic diet is limit carbs, adequate protein and enough healthy fats to make up energy requirements.
Tbd Low carb, adequate protein, fat for energy balance - otherwise known as ketogenic of low carb diet. In this diet carbs are typically restricted to 30g or less per day. This diet also includes abundant non-starchy, non-sweet vegetables and plant foods. 2. Very low fat, adequate protein, high carb. This is the plant based and even vegan diet that some are promoting. This diet does not have processed foods.
Avatar m tn I forgot something. What exactly is contained in a Ketogenic diet? Please could I have a diet plan from somebody or atleast reccomendations. Additionally, there have been claims that when you combine Hormone Therapy with other types of therapy, the results are improved massively. Avatar f tn I don't know the full answer to your question, but I do know there is supposed to be a food grade form. The kind you find in nurseries or in pet stores is the wrong grade. One pet store where I live sells it for people who have hens and it's meant to be for their dust baths. The plant nurseries sell it for insect control, and it works great for killing pests like fleas in the home. I do know there is a food grade form, but as far as how safe it is for health benefits, I'm unsure.
Avatar f tn I think somebody is messing with you. A healthy diet involves lots of vegetables, fruit and lean meat and nuts. Portion control and avoiding sugar and empty calories (such as fast food and sweet drinks) is a sensible way to improve health and lose weight. You don't have to go hungry. I find having veggies at breakfast helps me stay full all morning. Have a snack of fruit. Even a banana is fine as it is filling and full of nutrition.
Avatar f tn Sorry Lu but I beg to disagree about the fact that Swank has never been proven to make a difference in MS. In fact his ground breaking research on MS which started in the late forties and continued for over 30 years is absolutely breathtaking in the comparison between the health of those who kept to the diet and those who didn't. The only reason the medical community rejected it was because it adhered to medical trial standards that were acceptable to 1940 methologies.
