Avatar f tn Given the Vagus Nerve controls both impulses sent to the body related to blow flow, and pitch correction, would changing the quality and consistency of my singing regime help the overall blood flow and circulation in my body?
Avatar m tn //experiencenervana.com/technology-vagus-nerve-stimulation/ ) demonstrated headphones at CES 2016 that can stimulate Vagus and thus increase dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. It certainly looks interesting on the paper, but I am a bit skeptical about the negative effects which this stimulation could bring. Let's say that they actually work - how can they stimulate only vagus and not the rest of the nerves which could have unknown effects?
Avatar f tn In addition, vagus nerve stimulation by dehydration can lead to decrease in heart rate/pressure and then fainting. If this damage is confirmed by a neurologist, then vagus nerve stimulation and blocking therapy can be two forms of treatments available for vagus nerve damage and they can be utilized as per the requirement of the case. Surgical option (vagotomy) can be kept reserved in severe cases. Hope this helps.
1298247 tn?1288290953 This is called vagus nerve stimulation. Large bowel movements press on the vagus nerve and cause a person to lose conciousness...the fact that he doesnt remember anything is questionable..The vagus nerve runs directly from the brain stem, in front of the ears and down the neck towards the chest and abdomen. It branches off in several places to provide communication with the brain to a number of organs, such as the heart and the stomach.
Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?

Avatar f tn //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roemheld_syndrome It can be caused by a GI problem or a neurological problem. Given that you're experiencing migraines, you'll probably want to go see a neurologist to find out what's going on. Something could be affecting your vagus nerve.
Avatar m tn From what I have been able to learn all, the gastric system, the heart, and even the ears are all connected to the vagus nerve. I am at a standstill with gastroenterology and my options are very limited meanwhile my quality of life is severely impacted by these multiple symptoms.
Avatar m tn and if this is the case it might be vagus nerve stimulation. We have two basic systems in our body, one which keeps us in top gear and another which keeps us nice and calm. When one system switches to the other, we can sometimes feel it kickstarting into action. The Vagus nerve is the biggest nerve in the body, it connects to the lungs, heart, liver, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, etc.
Avatar f tn Therefore, only his neurologist can be precise here after examining him. Avatar n tn I would say yes, but I'm no Dr. I have read that for some conditions they actually used to cut the Vagus nerve (vagotomy) but I'm pretty sure they don't do that anymore. I read this: "The vagus nerve does not innervate through the ventricles, only the sympathetic nervous system by way of the cardiac plexus.
Avatar n tn The fainting is due to a sudden lowering of the heart rate due to stimulation of the vagus nerve, which is compressed when a person coughs. This drops the heart rate by twenty to thirty beats per minute. There is a genetic difference in susceptability to such stimulation. The vagus nerve also runs near the anal sphincter and when one strains on the toilet, those with sensitive nerves tend to black out. The best thing to do is to immediately lie down when you have to cough.
Avatar m tn I have anxiety and paranoid about health issues especially relating to the heart. Can you accidentally get hit in the neck or somehow accidentally stimulate the vagus nerve and kill yourself? Or slow your heart rate and lower blood preassure and kill yourself if you just so happen to massage your neck because it feels good?
Avatar n tn Passing out after a cough is due to stimulation of the vagus nerve. There are degrees of genetic susceptability to this. The late Jackie Kennedy suffered from this problem. But most everybody has this "problem". It is really nothing to be concerned about. The cough, stimulating the vagus nerve, causes the heart-rate to drop, and this in turn drops the blood pressure. Commonly there is an instant of "blackout". Typically this ranges from a half-second to about five seconds.
Avatar f tn The vagus nerve is the tenth cranial nerve and is very, very long. It meanders from the brain all the way to the anal sphincter, where it terminates. When stimulated by a portion of hard feces pressing against the anal sphincter as it is forced out, it reduces the heart-rate and drops the blood pressure. If you already have low blood pressure the additional drop produces anoxia sufficient to cause a black-out.
Avatar m tn Eating the wrong thing, lifting weights or even sleeping the wrong way can irritate my vagus nerve above my stomach and an episode will come on in the next day, or sooner. I am wondering if a neurologist would be able to help lower the tone of my vagus nerve so that it is less sensitive to the activity that I just described. My EP told me that neurologists don't do too much with the autonomic nervous system.
6990909 tn?1435275816 I suppose I naturally am doing the ketogenic diet and it does help. Avoiding glutton has made it where carbs are not a major part of my meals.
Avatar n tn You should also see a cardiologist. A pulse of 45 might be due to vagus nerve stimulation, "sick sinus syndrome" (which has to do with the sinoatrial node of the heart,) etc. With a pulse and pressure that low, it could be very difficult to supply blood to your brain. Many people unable to keep their heart rate above 50 are considered candidates for demand pacemakers.
Avatar m tn just checked what a ketogenic diet is, this type of diet is extremely unhealthy and damages livers of any person hbver or not The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet: high fat damages the liver adequate-protein is ok but from vegetable or little white meat, no red meat, no diaries low-carbohydrate leads nowhere, it is processed and refined carbohydrates to increase blood glucose which makes damage, so the problems is refined cereals not not carbohydrates the a
Avatar n tn Yes, in addition to having a VNS, and being on the ketogenic diet she is taking Zonegran 300mg, Depakote 500mg and .25mg of klonopin 3X a day. What do the sharp waves actually mean- I get that they are the patterns recoded, but clinically what does it mean?
Avatar f tn See, when you swallow, if you are prone to this, your esophagus swells to as the food passes through and the bulge stimulates the vagus nerve. THe vagus nerve is involved in parasympathetic responses (BP changes, HR changes) and therefore can stimulate the heart to beat faster. If you have "rogue" cells in your heart that continue to fire after the initial stimulation then you will experience SVT or PVC's or some other palpitation as a result.
Avatar m tn Panic attacks (episodes) have become less frequent and yet, when one appears, it comes out of the blue and very often due to a reaction of my VAGUS NERVE. I know that it is not a problem with my heart but I cannot think rationally when it happens. This morning I ate a banana and shortly thereafter the episode started while driving my car. And very often this is the scenario. I am glad that I do not have to describe the symptoms as you all know them well......
Avatar n tn When the oxygen levels go down, acidity goes up, then we are open to a host of cell damage and infection. Stomach issues often CAUSE vagus nerve damage--like acid reflux. It certainly sounds like Vagus Nerve Damage, and this can be irreversible. Doctors are poorly trained--for example: a Neurologist will have little to NO training or accessable education in Endocrinology, they'll keep the fields seperate which is where our health goes remarkably downhill.
