Avatar n tn I'm new here and I was wondering if there was some way to check the total saturated fat?
526889 tn?1212540641 I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Tbd key words will be low-carb, and keto. If you do look into ketogenic diet, do not use it as an excuse to eat too much fat; if you want to lose weight fat has to be limited to fats that come naturally with the foods that you eat, rather than lots of extra fats being added. There are now many cases where this has happened (you can look up Virta Health a company that tries to guide patients to do this), and there are also many online supportive communities.
Avatar m tn After the rats were switched to palm oil or MCT, there was marked histological improvement with decreased levels of endotoxin and lipid peroxidation, absence of NF-κB activation, and reduced expression of TNF-α and Cox-2. A diet enriched in saturated fatty acids effectively reverses alcohol-induced necrosis, inflammation, and fibrosis despite continued alcohol consumption.
Avatar m tn ve been doing some research on the effects of saturated fats vs monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Science has been saying that saturated fats(SF) can increase the risk of heart disease, though, lately that looks like it may not be as true as we all thought. However, for simplicity's sake, let's say it's still absolute that SF is bad for your heart. On the other hand monounsaturated(MUF) and polyunsaturated(PUF) fats are good for you and lower your LDL while raising your HDL.

Avatar f tn When using a butter spread avoid butter and all other hydrogenated/Saturated fats. The saturated fats consume more fats and increase our cholesterol. A good guide to help you get back on track is www.sparkpeople.com because they will calculate your calories for you and calculate how much protein, fats, and carbohydrates you are consuming that are within or outside of your daily requirment. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

1809109 tn?1331803777 That seems like a high amount of saturated fats. Saturated fats are those that come, mostly, from animal products and are not considered "healthy" fats. Monounsaturated fats are healthiest, with polyunsaturated fats are next best, with saturated fats bringing up the rear. Saturated fats tend to raise cholesterol levels, so is best limited. Common sources of saturated fats are butter, lard, meat fats, solid shortening, palm oil, coconut oil.

Tbd So sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. Most doctors will tell you it's about healthy choices while eating- I know when I heard that though, I thought, "well that's great, but what is a healthy choice". For our diets, we've eliminated or limited sugars, fats (especially saturated fats), sodium, and cholesterol in our foods. We stay away from all red meats (animals with four legs) and stick with chicken and fish.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have inadvertently eliminated most fats from my diet and was wondering how potentially dangerous this is. I have lost 11.5 kg over eight weeks (2.5 kg last week). I'm struggling a little with finding the right balance between energy in and energy out. I have been running for seven weeks and have completed two 96 minute runs this week. Could decreased fat intake affect my immunity? I have the flu for the second time in six weeks (when I rarely ever get it). Thanks for your time.
Avatar f tn I will advise you to avoid sugary foods, saturated fats, and foods high in cholesterol. Use monosaturated fats like olive oil, canola oil instead of polyunsaturated fats. Avatar f tn And, most dairy products in America come from cows which have been fed a lot of hormones and an unnatural diet of corn and grain, instead of natural grasses and hay. Many products also have preservatives added to them. Not all are even required to be listed with the ingredients. So, you would want to be sure about what is required by law to be written in the list of ingredients in India and what is not required. I have found that the fewer ingredients added to the final product the better.
1151688 tn?1262021084 I believe you are referring to a Glycemic Index (GI) diet. This is good to follow and as the doctor stated lowering saturated fats is key. Also look at oldways.org for their pyramid for mediterrean diet plan to follow. They have a nice pyramid you can print out and have it handy in the kitchen. This is mainly a plant, nut, fruit plan with less animal sources of fat and proteins. Good Luck. Joan.
Avatar f tn You can google food for heart patients. There will be links to food to avoid, food that is helpful....but always check with your doctor and have appropriate blood work done before following any of the research suggestions from any source. You may have comcomitant health issues, an allergy, etc. and your doctor may place certain restrictions based on your over all health.

Pneumonia, diarrhea and enteritis, and tuberculosis were the most common causes of death.
Avatar n tn t add enough healthy fats. Healthy fats are naturally occurring minimally processed fats. Saturated fats (from meats etc) are also ok - the previous thought that saturated fats are unhealthy is already outdated. The unhealthy fats are vegetable oils, transfats (found in processed and baked goods), and fats from commercially deep-fried foods. Hope this response will h elp you.
