Avatar f tn I take metformin for insulin resistance and ovarian cysts. My doctor started me on 500 mg, taken with dinner and with in the first few days I had loose bowels. That went away and as long as I stay on my high fiber low glycemic diet I have no problems. My doctor started me on a low dose so that my body could get use to it. I have heard blogs from other women that were put on a high dose from the very beginning and they had all kinds of problems.

Avatar n tn [17] The most serious potential side effect of metformin use is lactic acidosis; this complication is very rare, and the vast majority of these cases seem to be related to comorbid conditions, such as impaired liver or kidney function, rather than to the metformin itself.[52] Metformin has also been reported to decrease the blood levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone in people with hypothyroidism,[53] and, in men, testosterone.
Avatar m tn no it is not but on cirrhosis patients with low liver function and especially on uncompensated cirrhosis severe lactic acidosis can develop and nausea might be lactic acidosis but it takes time to develop so 99% is not related to entecavir be sure your doctor has planned regular lactic acidosis blood tests at least the first years because lactic acidosis can reach fatal levels in the blood with time, so blood tests for this are very important i am also on cirrhosis and on etv 0.

Avatar m tn Just talked to my doctor and he said it was not the drug causing this symptom and Lactic Acidosis from these drugs does not occur. He said it is a class warning but is not really relevant for these medications. Hmmm Hoping it's just the darn cold air we are getting. I usually tolerate cold pretty well too!
6990909 tn?1435275816 I suppose I naturally am doing the ketogenic diet and it does help. Avoiding glutton has made it where carbs are not a major part of my meals.
Avatar m tn just checked what a ketogenic diet is, this type of diet is extremely unhealthy and damages livers of any person hbver or not The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet: high fat damages the liver adequate-protein is ok but from vegetable or little white meat, no red meat, no diaries low-carbohydrate leads nowhere, it is processed and refined carbohydrates to increase blood glucose which makes damage, so the problems is refined cereals not not carbohydrates the a
Avatar f tn After any strenuous running, (hard efforts of 1-2 minutes) I am breathing hard, lightheaded, highly nauseous, and usually vomit. This feels terrible (and is embarrassing and frustrating) and lasts about 20 minutes. Every other kid doing the same exact workout is totally fine, even the ones who are in far worse shape. I am hydrated adequately, I eat correctly, I have no other medical problems. I was cleared by a pulmonologist, cardiologist, immunologist, and sports doctor.

Avatar m tn It occurred about 2-3 days into my medication. I called my doctor and asked if it was lactic acidosis becase I was concerned. He assured me that it was just my body getting used to te meds, and the lactic acidosis was very rare and didn't happen often (if at all) with Hep B patients. 2 weeks later, it was gone.
434242 tn?1204173382 No medication will help your husband unless he helps himself first. Diet and moderate exercise play a large role in controlling diabetes and has been discussed many times on this forum. Take the time to read through previous posts for there are a lot of good sound suggestions, including links to web sites on how to manage/control diabetes. 976897 tn?1379167602 The byproduct of using this less efficient fuel is a compound called lactic acid that builds up in the muscle and causes pain. Also, I postulate that that heart cells are not uniformally of sufficient degree of vulnerbility or lack there of.
2094297 tn?1345389093 3, my biggest problem is that I cannot take metformin as it causes acidosis and have tried twice with the same result (made me really sick) tried actos and did not help at all, I was born with a rare congenital problem of only the head of the pancreas, so I was doomed from the start and then the hep c tx did not help on diabetes side at all, although funny that while on tx blood sugar stayed good. go figure.
