Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.

Avatar n tn Hi, Your blood sugars are still very high. Maximum daily dose of metformin is 2650 mg, I understand. So you are well below this still. Suggest you take efforts to further reduce your blood sugars. normal fasting should be in the range of about 4.4 - 5.2. 2 hours post eating should be less than 7.7 and ideally less than 6.6 (or close to fasting levels). Low carb diet may help greatly with reducing post eating blood sugars (look into low carb / ketogenic / paleo-style).

I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.

If you want to step it up a notch diet-wise, you could look into ketogenic diet, which can further normalize blood sugars for some. Changing your exercise time (maybe late afternoon / evening, if you typically exercise in the morning) may be worth a try. Other possibilities: - a small late night snack (with protein and fat) may help bring down your fasting numbers; this works for some.
