8 days later she went to her vet appointment and we decided to taper her off of the Keppra and also started her on Di Tan Tang. Both meds were 2 times per day until we would actually start the taper.
13 days after the Vet visit, she had another seizure after eating chicken stock and hamburger with oinons and garlic. No more people food for Honey! She is strickly on Raw freeze-dried food.
13 days later, she had a mild seizure...no falling over and no legs flailing about.
Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
They all have reported feeling better daily - this off label approach is a God Send! Now I will finish out the 12 weeks - they will do the viral load test again at that time and then 12 weeks post treatment test again to declare me officially SVR!!!

A good Neuro would be able to tell you more specifically about your mother's condition. As my DD is in Keppra, and has previously been on other seizure meds, the Keppra, by far has had the least amount of side-effects. You could ask if some of her mood changes, memory loss, etc. are from the stroke vs. the Keppra. Please do not wean her off the medication without a Dr's directive... that could cause withdrawal seizures.

04/12 changed him to Dilatan and keppra more seizures. 05/12 put back on keppra only 3,500 mg. 06/12 seizures moved to keppra 4,000 mg a day! He has had only 1 seizures since been on 4,000, but this is a very high dosage. He is going to see an seizures specialist. Hoping he can get this dosage down.
So, then our vet recommended us weaning him off Keppra. She believed his seizures may of been triggered from him being on trifexis flea pills - he has always been using. Within a week to week and half we gave him the lowest dosage of Keppra - 125mg for the entire day. That day, he had 4 seizures! I called and was told to give an extra dose then continue back to his previous dosing the next day. For 24 hours he was fine. Then at 8pm the next night he started to frantically run around.
My doc wants to wean me off Keppra and slowly increase my lamictal. Luckily I have not had a reaction this far with it but its only been two weeks. He wants to switch due to the irritability from Keppra. I was taking Wellbutrin for depression but am not any longer, did feel I need it haha. Anyway I would speak to your doc about anti-depressant I havent heard of any problem with AED's. Lots of luck to you and your daughter.
Now he can only be described as disrespectful, disobedient, argumentative, rude and sometimes enraged. Hence ‘Keppra rage.’ He finally being weaned off Keppra and onto Vimpat. We pray that this is the answer. What happened to our silly, fun-loving, laid-back boy? Any idea that this is “just teenage hormones” is completely misguided. This is my fourth son and also fourth TEEN aged son.
Sorry it took so long for me to get back with you. My son was taken off Keppra due to the irritability. I finally found a med that works miracles....Trileptal. His seizures stopped completely!!! And zero side effects!!! Now, this drug is expensive as hell, but my insurance pays for it...but even if they didn't it would be worth it.

I am on the off brand of keppra and I was wondering if anyone uses adderal to help with the side effects of this medication. I find myself to be out of it most days and not have a drive to do anything.
After a very frightening last 2 weeks of my boyfriend on Keppra my doctor did say to ween him off which I've done. Today is the first day off it and he still seems to have the dillusional aggressive side effects that I am hopeful after reading your post.....I pray to god that the old person before this drug comes back. How was those last few weeks for your son?
I had my 1st seizure this past Nov. and started Keppra right away. We've been all over with the dose. I've been on it just shy of 3 months. In the last month I started having numbness/tingling in 2 of my right fingers. It started to move into the side of my right hand, traveling into my forearm. Then it started in my left hand in a similar fashion. Then on the right side of my face. Then, though not as bad, my feet.
its been 8 months since my mothers TBI- she had a seizure yesterday-she has been off keppra for 1 1/2 months-the side effects of keppra are aweful-they ask her questions and wonder why she is out of it and doesn't know her last name-(after they gave her keppra in the hospital) what can she take that is less evasive to her health and recovery??
Hello Kylie you have been struggling for a long time with tramadol. Not sure if the keppra would prevent seizures from the tramadol.
How do you plan to taper and get off the tramadol?
Have you been to counseling?
I had been on phenobarbital for 28 years. My Dr took me off of phenobarbital and prescribed keppra. He said it would make feel better than phenobarbital did(fewer side effects like fatigue) within a couple of weeks, I started drinking again and haven't been able to stop. Is there any way that keppra could somehow be responsible?
But then, according to the PA at his office, none of my symptoms which started after starting keppra are side effects of the keppra. I wish I knew how to wean myself off. I hear its dangerous to do it without knowing how. And, to be honest, after having 3 seizures in the last three months (more than I had in the previous 5 years combined.....I am a bit paranoid about being off of any drug. Good luck with your son and the surgery. I am thinking about you.
My problem started about 2 years ago. I've had 3 seperate episodes. The first one started off as my background vision not focusing in as quick as the rest. then I would get double vision for a short time after sleeping, and basicly felt off balance all day, everyday for 3 months. I was told it was probably an inner ear virus that threw off my balance and vision a little. They sent me for vision therapy.
Hi everyone. I have been on Depakote since I was 2 y.o., I am currently 39 y.o. In mid-may I switched to Keppra & was off depakote totally by mid-June. End of June is when things started acting weird. Hormones going bonkers. I thought at 1st, maybe prego?..but all tests have been neg. So then i did some reading on if/how Keppra can have effect on hormones. Has any woman out there experienced a wet clear discharge in underwear everyday while on Keppra? Nothing else weird about it..

Hello everyone, I am 20 and was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 18 and was put on Depakote then taken off due to weight gain and put on Topamax, which is what I'm currently taking. Just recently I had a new diagnosis of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and was put on Folic Acid and Keppra. So now I'm taking three medications.
I also take Keppra but have never had any problems at all. I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!
