What isn't legal is for the manufacturer to talk the physician into using it for off-label purposes. So this med might be the best thing for you, and it might be completely inappropriate depending on where the professional got the info from. So you're right to question things, but as I said, that doesn't mean this isn't a good med for you.

8 days later she went to her vet appointment and we decided to taper her off of the Keppra and also started her on Di Tan Tang. Both meds were 2 times per day until we would actually start the taper. 13 days after the Vet visit, she had another seizure after eating chicken stock and hamburger with oinons and garlic. No more people food for Honey! She is strickly on Raw freeze-dried food. 13 days later, she had a mild seizure...no falling over and no legs flailing about.

Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. 04/12 changed him to Dilatan and keppra more seizures. 05/12 put back on keppra only 3,500 mg. 06/12 seizures moved to keppra 4,000 mg a day! He has had only 1 seizures since been on 4,000, but this is a very high dosage. He is going to see an seizures specialist. Hoping he can get this dosage down.

So, then our vet recommended us weaning him off Keppra. She believed his seizures may of been triggered from him being on trifexis flea pills - he has always been using. Within a week to week and half we gave him the lowest dosage of Keppra - 125mg for the entire day. That day, he had 4 seizures! I called and was told to give an extra dose then continue back to his previous dosing the next day. For 24 hours he was fine. Then at 8pm the next night he started to frantically run around.

My doc wants to wean me off Keppra and slowly increase my lamictal. Luckily I have not had a reaction this far with it but its only been two weeks. He wants to switch due to the irritability from Keppra. I was taking Wellbutrin for depression but am not any longer, did feel I need it haha. Sorry it took so long for me to get back with you. My son was taken off Keppra due to the irritability. I finally found a med that works miracles....Trileptal. His seizures stopped completely!!! And zero side effects!!! Now, this drug is expensive as hell, but my insurance pays for it...but even if they didn't it would be worth it. Best of luck!!!

I am using Pegasys 180mug q/wk as an off label use to treat Polycythemia Vera and it works well.I will have to take this med the rest of my life. I am aware of the short term side effects, but what about long term side effects? What can I expect years from now?

While in hosp for those 4 days I was weaned off Keppra and increased my lamictal. Felt much better as far as the irritability goes but now have increase in szs even on increased dose of lamicatal. Iknow have this horrible metalic taste in my mouth which can last all day but worse at times. I can feel my head being pulled to the left and have increase blinking and zoning out periods. I put a call in to neuro but didn't recieve call back which is very unusual.

Now he can only be described as disrespectful, disobedient, argumentative, rude and sometimes enraged. Hence ‘Keppra rage.’ He finally being weaned off Keppra and onto Vimpat. After a very frightening last 2 weeks of my boyfriend on Keppra my doctor did say to ween him off which I've done. I think its vital to also remember that most of the mood stabilisers other than lithium were actually created to treat other things and their Mood Stabilising effects are off label - the anti epileptics and the anti psychotics fall into this class of drug for example - they were not created to be mood stabilisers at all.

I was on Keppra for about 6 months and am also on anti-depressants. Keppra is a depressant drug to some people - I was one of them. I don't know if what you mean by behaviours is moods, but my mood decreased significantly. I become a completely different person. I have now been taken off it and put on a drug call Lamictal. It has relieved me some depressing moods and I have so much more motivation and life back in my face.

I had my 1st seizure this past Nov. and started Keppra right away. We've been all over with the dose. I've been on it just shy of 3 months. In the last month I started having numbness/tingling in 2 of my right fingers. It started to move into the side of my right hand, traveling into my forearm. Then it started in my left hand in a similar fashion. Then on the right side of my face. Then, though not as bad, my feet.

its been 8 months since my mothers TBI- she had a seizure yesterday-she has been off keppra for 1 1/2 months-the side effects of keppra are aweful-they ask her questions and wonder why she is out of it and doesn't know her last name-(after they gave her keppra in the hospital) what can she take that is less evasive to her health and recovery??
