status epilepticus and sudden unexplained death are risks for this condition. Support groups in your school, locality and even here in the net may greatly help. Take care always.
I will add some insight from what I know; I am not a doctor, but have been shuffled from many, and had many experiences.
Was the change right after the seizure, or was it gradual?
How long did the "massive seizure" last, do you know? There is a condition called "Status epilepticus", where the brain can be in a constant seizure state for 30 minutes. The longer the seizure, the more likely you are for brain damage from the seizure itself.
So let me know what is this condition called super refractory status epilepticus and auto immune encephalitis.
And how it can be totally cured even if the antibodies panel is negative.
Also tell me whether the treatment undergoing for him is genuine or not.
Note: Because of the treatment given in MICU for about more than a month he had a memory loss too.
As you may already know, any seizure lasting for more than 30 minutes is called status epilepticus. By definition, the seizure you enquire about is a status epilepticus. However without examining the patient, it’s very difficult to comment. Since there is a family history of hypoglycemia, this should also be ruled out in your friend’s case. Persistent low sugar levels in the blood can cause seizures. Also autoimmune disorders should be looked into like celiac disease etc.

What is motivating you to taper off Klonopin? We can't discuss taper schedules on this forum but you MUST taper from this medication to prevent possible seizures. Your doctor should be able to give you more direction here. In my work as a RN I have seen doctor's prescribe Valium or Tegratol to taper off Klonopin to prevent 'status epilepticus' (nonstop seizure). This would depend on the dose and length of use.
Please see a doctor if you are out of Xanax. Have you ever heard of Status Epilepticus? This is serious- your body can go into multiple seizures from the shock of your receptors going wild from not having the benzo's.
I dont want to scare you, but benzo are sometimes prescribed for seizures- Clonipin and Valium mostly- and ANY drug that prevents seizures should be weaned off of carefully for fear that status epilepticus can occur. I watched it happen with my sister.
It sounds as if your cat may have a long prodromal phase, than the seizure, and then a very long postictal phase; and if this is the case, it may not be status epilepticus. A consult with a veterinary neurologist may be very valuable. Record one of the seizures to show to your vet.
t taper without medical assistance at this point. Status Epilepticus can be caused from drug withdrawal as well- and it is very serious. please contact your doctor and make sure you are being monitored and on other meds to control withdrawal symptoms.
I currently take gabapenten and topamax, and missing topamax is worse I think than withdrawl from the gabapenten. but hang in there it will stop soon, I think it runs about 4 to 6 weeks...
may be due to ongoing seizure activity (non-convulsive status epilepticus) or persistent post-ictal dysfunction of memory related brain structures.
That gives you cerebellar (shirnks the one side of your brain) put him on Keppra. My doctor put me on Keppra instead of Dilantin....I was already on diamox and tegratol. Now I'm taking keppra,diamox and tegertol and my seizers are under control, they will never be gone for good. I have had them since I was 12 and now I'm 54 but I'm down to about 3 every month or two and they were not under conrol that much until I started taking Keppra.
my 7 year duaghter has Nocturnal Complex Partial seizures and has been on Keppra liquid for 1 year now. they just increased her dose to 8 ml in the am and 10 ml in the pm. she has been extremely grumpy, irritable and very down in the slumps. Has anybody else experienced this? the Dr. thinks that she should talk to a Shrink, but I think it all has to do with the medication as she is normally a very happy, loving and caring girl...now she is very pessimistic on EVERYTHING!!!
Also, I wanted to know if anyone has tried Keppra for seizure activity in dogs and if so, how did that work? Our 6 year old French Mastiff had a seizure on Thursday night - first one ever. He walked across our bedroom floor, stood in front of our open door and acted like he saw someone in the hallway. I sat up and said "Archie, there is no-one there. Go back to bed." Then he looked like he was rubbing his shoulder on the clothes hamper and I thought it looked really weird.
My brother takes 2,000mg of Keppra twice a day. He is now in the "donut hole" of his Medicare coverage. I am now paying $770 per month for his Keppra. My question is Is there some way he or I can get help paying for his Keppra?
I also take Keppra but have never had any problems at all. I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!
