Common Questions and Answers about Kapidex and liver disease

kapidex

Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with gerd and a hiata hernia i am a black female 5ft2 and 233 pounds i have been on five different prescriptions currently i am on 60 mg of kapidex i have been losing weight and losing my appetite sometimes the kapidex gives me relief sometimes it doesn't what can i do for relief when it doesn't work? and how far can acid reflux travel.
Avatar f tn ve never tried Domperidone, but the only meds that helped me were Nexium or Kapidex taken twice daily. I tried prevacid and it was very brief because it just didn't work for me :( Also, I use to take one Kapidex/Nexium PLUS some Amitriplyn, but I knocked the amitriplyn out of my regimen. Either way, it offered more good days then bad.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with acid reflux, after an endoscopy that showed some gastritis and inflammation in my esophagus and a clean ultrasound. I've tried different medicines and the only one I've found so far that lets me live relatively pain-free is Kapidex. I took a free trial of it for 10 days, during which time I helped, but then went back off of it for a week (trying a different, cheaper medicine) before going back on it.
Avatar m tn Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you. My doc gave me a 3 week free-sample of Kapidex, and you take it once a day. I'm always open to trying something new.
Avatar n tn I saw an ENT for some major throat problems, and he said my reflux is the cause of it, and im not getting enough with the Kapidex. He told me to take it twice a day now. Does anyone else take Kapidex twice a day?
Avatar f tn Hi all, For the past 2 weeks I have had numerous problems starting with my stomach. First I was feeling nauseas, gassy and tender stomach. Went to my Dr and she said it was Gastritis and put me on Kapidex 2x a day for 3 days and then once a day thereafter. The next day my lower back has starting hurting. I went in on Tuesday for pain in the back and she prescribed naxoprene and a muscle relaxer. The pain went away once from the pain medicine and now does nothing.
Avatar f tn Ive been on it for two weeks and notice just a notice a slight difference. To continue with that and 1/ 60 mg Kapidex and follow wp with him in December when my follow up is scheduled.
Avatar m tn If all your labs (liver and pancreatic enzymes) are nornal, it would be very unusual for this to be pancreatitis. Typically the only time pancreatitis shows up and the enzymes levels show 'normal' levels is when someone progresses from acute to chronic pancreatitis. So if this hasn't been a condition that's happened several times in a couple of years, the chances of it being pancreatitis is low. All of the PPIs do not act the same nor do they have the same side-effects.
Avatar m tn They found that i have a hiatial hernia as well as a weak les sphincter. Anyways my GI doctor put me on kapidex after followup. I prefer kapidex to protonix and i was doing pretty good until this morning when i had a random bout of nausea. Luckily i had some phenegren left so i took it and got better. I have already bought the special pillow that raises my head while sleeping and i think has really helped me.
Avatar n tn I have tried prevacid, nexium, and kapidex. I still have the constant burning in chest and lump in throat feeling?
Avatar n tn I switched to taking tums multiple times a day, which worked for a couple months and then stopped. I tried Kapidex which also worked perfectly for about 3 months and then completely stopped working. Zantac worked for about a month and is now subsiding. My doctor has added carafate, but the pains are still not gone. They usually come when I haven't eaten for a while and let myself get hungry at all. I try to eat every 2-3 hours but am not always able to.
Avatar n tn Long story short - I was diagnosed with GERD 6mos ago. I was having pain in my chest which was determined to be esophageal spasms. Protonix worked at first, now I am on it twice a day and still have esophageal spasms. They are getting stronger and the duration has doubled since April. My 'smooth muscle' medicine is no longer working and I reflux everytime I eat, sometime two to three hours after I eat.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your thoughts. I'm on plenty of other medications treating heart disease and parkinson's disease. I've been on those meds for years. I have made modifications in both lifestyle and eating. I've lost 27 pounds in the past two months. Exercise regularly. Have about another 30 to lose. Here's an update. Spoke to my dr this afternoon. She increased Zantac to 300 mgs.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder and Major Depression and I take the kapidex for a high amount of stomach acid. In March 2008, I got mononucleosis, and ever since I got that, my health has deteriorated. I would get tonsilitis every 2 weeks and after having my tonsils out, got pneumonia. I remember saying to my mom that whatever this is is just moving down my body and that soon it would be a problem in my abdomen. While my lungs have been ok, my abdomen has not been.
Avatar f tn I am really trying to see if my sister's condition has anything to do with her being given this shot. Last time she was given it was April 2013, she is currently in the hospital fighting for her life!! So with all the warnings about if you have a liver disease you shouldn't be taking this shot and the doctors are advising her liver isn't functioning and for it to be as far gone as it is, if she had come to hospital a year ago they wouldn't have been able to do anything!!
Avatar n tn You have been extensively investigated for GI problems including Celiac disease and lactose intolerance. Acidity and gastric reflux can also cause similar symptoms and are often difficult to manage on medications. Try a combination of acid lowering drugs and life style changes. Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal.
Avatar f tn Autoimmune disorders Sometimes a body’s immune system may begin to attack the liver or bile ducts causing inflammation and scarring which leads to a progressive form of liver disease. Examples of liver diseases believed to be caused by the immune system are primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and autoimmune hepatitis.
Avatar n tn If your report says that your bilirubin is high, then you probably have jaundice (jaundice is the accumulation of bilirubin under the skin) and some type of liver disease that needs further testing and diagnosis. My two cents. Take care and God bless.
Avatar f tn I was going thru a bottle of vodka every 2 to 3 days. I started having discomfort in the liver area with nausea fatigue and dry mouth. Had an lft done all normal. Still felt sick and went to the hospital lft normal except elevated bilirubin ultrasound normal. Had another lft couple of weeks after bilrubin down to 1.3. And another normal ultrasound. I still deal with right quadrant pain fatigue and nausea.
1714226 tn?1308625105 Hi, my name is Patty and I am 29 years old. To say that liver disease runs in my family would be a huge understatement, for my grandmother, aunt, and my father have all died of cirrhosis of the liver. Neither of the 3 were alcoholics either. Since the age of 18, I have had routine checkups and blood work, keeping a close eye on my liver function and health. In January of 2010, I was diagnosed with gallbladder disease and had surgery to remove it.

Avatar f tn My daughter has been diagnosed with liver disease. She had hep c but that is now under control. She has developed varies in the aesophagus and these are banded every three months. She now has frequent nose bleeds and would like to know the significance of this. She had a drug problem and she also continues to drink alcohol in large amounts. What is the likely outcome of this as she does not listen to what I have to say regarding not drinking.
Avatar n tn God made the liver to be self replicating and self healing. You can lose half of it to disease and it will heal itself if you treat it right. Please "Google" liver and you will see how wonderful it is.
Avatar f tn He should be restricting sodium, taking medications to prevent ascites, varices, and hepatic encephalopathy, monitoring for liver cancer, restricting red meat, eating a liver friendly diet, and not drinking or taking medications that harm the liver. Obviously it is his choice whether or not to drink and whether or not to take care of his liver.
Avatar m tn Also only patients with cirrhosis of the liver are prone to liver cancer. Liver cancer is a very serious and many times deadly disease. It is one the worse cancers you can have if not caught early. An MRI with contrast is the best test for determining if a growth in the liver is benign or cancer. You should have a MRI perform assuming whoever is doing the testing is experienced in diagnosing liver cancer. Most radiologists are not experts in liver tumors so they can miss cancer.
Avatar n tn if you are 57yo you better consider treatment seriously and do all tests, cirrhosis and liver cancer jump to very high percentage after 50yo
