Avatar n tn this starts a vicious cycle of more insulin, more carbs and of course weight gain. You want to lower your carb intake as low as you can and lower your insulin dose accordingly. To do this you need to figure out your insulin:Carb ratio. Some doctors put their patients on set doses or sliding scales for their mealtime insulin and this also leads to weight gain. I recommend the book Using Insulin by John Walsh which teaches you to use insulin:carb ratios.
Avatar f tn that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
541953 tn?1262586226 Oh, I though you meant.....the cheating, lying, basturd.......John Edwards. The other John Edwards I love him.......he has the most incredible eyes I have ever seen. I would do him, but anyway.........I don't know for sure. Would love to believe him, but unless I saw it with my own two eyes......dunno. I think I will wait until my demise to see all my loved ones, that way I know for sure. I know how you feel though, Edwards is very mesmerizing, but Sylvia Brown is interesting too.......
Avatar n tn t already, you might want to try a low-carb diet because decreasing the carbs in your diet can help to stabilize your blood sugar. Calories still count on a low carb diet, but because you're eating a higher proportion of protein and fat, and fewer carbs, it might keep you satiated on fewer calories. That is generally how people lose weight, or keep it off, on low carb diets.
Avatar f tn Hello, your insulin dose needs to be adjusted to lower your blood sugars. Your doctor should have explained to you how to do this. What dose are you taking. Are you taking a mixed insulin or basal (long acting - as background) / bolus (short acting - to be taken before meals) Typically insulin dose will be increased by 2 - 5 units (5 units if you are very far from target, and 2 units, if you are close), with blood sugar being observed.
Avatar m tn Humalog is a fast acting insulin. Typically it is taken before meals - up to 15 minutes before (not after) to match the amount of carbs eaten. It's duration of action is 3 - 5 hours, with most of the action in the first 2 hours. You need to work out a carb:insulin ratio (ie. how much Humalog you need to cover how much carbs/ protein). If you are going low overnight (how low?), then you need to be taking a lower dose of Humalog with your evening meal. What time do you eat dinner?
Avatar n tn If he is then you need to arrange to do basal testing and then also to work out his carb to insulin ratio. This is quite complex and it may be helpfyul you have a diabetes educator to work with. Alternatively, there are some very good books that can help on this. Some are Úsing Insulin, by John Walsh, and "Think Like a Pancreas". Reducing the amount of carbs your son eats will also make blood sugar control easier. The carbs are replaced with healthy fats and proteins.
Avatar m tn If he becomes hypoglycemic two hours after meals then he took too much insulin for the food he ate. Carb counting and developing an insulin carb ratio is the way to determine bolus dose. My suggestion would be, in addition to talking to his doctor, I would get the book Using Insulin by John Walsh so you and your husband can learn more about insulin use.
Avatar m tn You have been Type II (I assume) for 13 years and your disease may have progressed. I'm assuing that at one time your management was working better? On the other hand your comment about not "getting what you're measuring and exactly how what you eat affects my level" makes me wonder if you have not learned diabetes management. You most certainly need to learn about carb counting and how food affects your blood sugar by trying different foods and then testing two hours later.
Avatar n tn He recommends very low carb, but even if you decide not to take that approach (though some extent of carb restriction is optimal for diabetes management)., there is still much excellent information to be gained. Other good books are Using Insulin by John Walsh, and "Think Like a Pancreas". Please come and ask more questions as you need. The first big step was getting diagnosed.
Avatar m tn she told me after the relation(10 days only) was ended that she got herpes and I get worried and I start itching in genital area and in all my body , after that I went to do a surgery(varicocele and in legs as well ) that was after 1 month of the end of relationship, and after the surgery I started to have very severe symptoms like fever, dry cough, nite sweat, musles pain, swollen in the nick and sore throat..
Avatar f tn KIEFER!!! and SAUERKRAUT!!! they will provide the flora you are probably lacking who will provide the ezymes you need to break down food you also may have low stomach acid. stomach acid is essential for most absorbtion. try stimulating your tongue with bitter herbs before eating or try betaine hcl and digestive enzymes the straightforeward medical community doesnt know how to treat this and doesnt want to. i had limited carb digestion for a while and now i can digest everything.
Avatar m tn John, I can't emphasize enough that surgery be your absolute last resort. I had a 4 Level Laminectomy 7/07/04 and from the 7th day after surgery lying in the back seat of a neigbors car going to see the surgeon. The pain from that day was 3 times prior to surgery when I was taking Percoset 10/325 (4) times a day. Today the pain has completely encompassed my whole lower body waist down Lumbar, Hips, Buttox, Legs and yes Abdomen.
