I'm on generic cosopt and recently started xelpros.
A year ago when l first started taking Xalatan myeye pressure was 33 now its 20 so the drug seems to be working. IS 20 still too high? my eye doctor has prescribed me Timoptol XE to try to make it lower. If the soreness continues are there any alterantive eyedrops for glucoma thst work just as well that don't casue soreness or stinging ?
I KNOW THE USUAL DOSE FOR COSOPT IS TWICE DAILY IF I TOOK THREE TIMES A DAY FOR ONE DAY AND DIDNT DOUBLE UP ON IT WILL IT BE OK?
Odd thing about this rash is it is NOT constant and seems to respond to treatment but when treatment stops, rash returns. I am going to keep a journal beginning today to see if I am doing something to create this. Also going for a 3rd opinion (have never done this) to Alexei Moraczewski, MD who I located thru this the link provided by medhelp. Things are "lookin'" up!

and neither is your glaucoma. SLT is generally very safe and is a primary treatment for people that have lots of trouble with drops( parkinson tremors, stroke paralysis, bad coordination and mentally incompetent such as Alzeimheimers.). The SLT is gnerally considered equal to one drop so even if you are treated and respond you likely will need to stay on xalatan.
Thanks for your response, but I'd still like to know how long Xalatan is typically effective. Also, what is the longest amount of time you've ever had a patient on Xalantan before tolerance is built up? I have retina detachments in both eyes after surgeries I had eye pressure problems but on last visit to doctor on wednesday my eye pressure were normal 14 (Right eye) and 9 (Left Eye) I am using using Cospt, Alphagan, Xalatan( Twice a day and Pilocarpine 2% six hourly.

Will be havibng laser treatment for this Do you know more about the type what it involved and whether it is safe(been told it is) Is this something the specialists should have picked up during a general axmination of the eyes eg slit lamp. Only picked up when i complaind of the halos and headaches. The pressure was at 50 i am 28 have been told unlikely to have done damage to eyesight as we lose many caplillaries or vessels (or something like that anyway).
I was diagnosed with glaucoma four years ago and was immediately put on Xalatan once a day both eyes. Two years later was taken off Xalatan and put on Cosopt & Alphagan, twice a day, Lumigan once a day, both eyes. For the past two years my diopter went from -4.00 both eyes, to -9.50 left eye, -7.00 right eye, as of today, in steady progression. I can already tell I'm probably not seeing 20/40 presently and need stronger contacts.
Alphagan is less expensive than Alphagan P. The difference is the preservative that is less irritating to some people with the "P" type. The IOP lowering capacity is the same. Xalatan (latanoprost) is often NOT used after intraocular surgery as it may increase inflammation and swelling in the macula. Home tonometry doesn't work for most people (scratched corneas, inaccurate readings, excess anxiety) discuss with the glaucoma specialist.
If Glaucoma is caught very early, and the pressure (before treatment) is 18-19, is hoping for it to progress so slowly as to not lose visual function an unreasonable expectation?
The specifics are: 42 year old male, IOP (both eyes) 18-19 (treatment with Xalatan just begun). No field loss in left eye, very minor field loss in right eye.
Xalatan (latanoprost) is the most widely used glaucoma medicine in the world. It has few side effects, it makes the lashes grow longer which most people don't mind. The package warning about changing iris color is only an iris with brown/blue mixed. The Azarga contains a beta blocker and that can cause a lot of problems: slow pulse, cold feet, loss of energy, low blood pressure, chronic cough, wheezing and the other ingredient bromonidine can cause red irritated eyes and eyelids.
I was prescribed xalatan to reduce the pressure. Around the same time I started noticing afterimages from objects with high contrast to their background (tv against white wall, my phone against desk) after staring less than 3 seconds. Further, when I read text online I notice faint horizontal bars beside the text (negative afterimage of the space between the lines). The most annoying aspect is that I sometimes see a negative afterimage of the people I am talking to.
About 1 1/2 later I noticed a change to the lower part of the lower half of my field of vision, which appeared blurred and sensitive to light and is worse is bright light. The surgeon was consulted the next day who immediately stopped the drops and checked my ocular pressure which has risen to 31mm hg. Tablets prescribed to lower pressure which was within the normal range within 36 hours.
Both his upper and lower lid has eyelash loss. We noticed this is November and our pediatrician had no knowledge as so why. His blood came back fine. His eyes look normal no red, swelling. He recently went to a local eye doctor which he was diagnosed with blepharitis. He were instructed to wash is eyes 3xs a day and apply eye ointment at bedtime. At the very outer edge he has a few about 10 lashes. Yesterday I counted the lower lid and he is down to 3.
m using Alphagan, Azopt (both 2x daily in both eyes) and Xalatan (both eyes at night). My pressure is now 14 in left eye and 21 in right eye. The retinal specialist had considered injections of steroids for the swelling, but thinks it may cause an exacerbation of the glaucoma, so is having me continue the Prednisolone and Nevanac until the bottles are empty.
The only thing that may help is stopping the lumigan and eventually you may see some improvement. You can also get the same problem with travatan and xalatan. I suggest you look into SLT laser treatment as a way to reduce the pressure and maybe drop down to just one medication a day hopefully. Then you might be able to use alphagan or trusot/azopt or a beta blocker and avoid the darkening problem.
