i also haven't been taking it very long. Like i'm supposed to take 7 units per meal and 15 lispro when i sleep. pluss 1000 mg of metformin morning and night. I haven't been consistent with the lispro or humalog, so maybe that would cause it?
One way to find out what is causing the lows is to change the timing of your long acting insulin injection. If you are injecting NPH before bed, you can expect it to cause a low at about 3am. Try having this injection in the morning instead. If the night time lows stop, you have solved the problem. If they don't stop, it could be because of the combined effect of exercise and the dinner time short-acting shot.
The modern short acting insulin that is considered safe for pregnancy is Humalog (insulin lispro). The modern long acting insulin that is considered safe for pregnancy is levemir (insulin detemir).
You will need to do basal-bolus testing to determine your correct insulin dosages for each type of insulin.

i'm sorry but i've never heard of cholesterol sites but have heard of changes in the fat deposites around insertion site. i would ask the physicians what can be done about them.i have been on an insulin pump for about four years or so now and have never experienced any problms like this. But i do keep in touch with doctors to ask if something does arise. bret.

YOu should also know about how much carbs you are eating in any one meal (and protein) because the correct dose of insulin also depends on how much carb you eat. For example, I need 2 units of insulin for 15 g of carbohydrate, and 1 unit of insulin for 30 g of protein. YOu may be different. But you will need to work out what is correct for you.
Alcohol (beer) will raise levels consistent with any grain carbs and will not lower levels significantly with minimal levels of insulin in your system. I find that on a full or empty stomach, a small shot of quick acting insulin (4-5 units) for 6 or 7 beers will be perfect. Humalog is a fast acting insulin. Typically it is taken before meals - up to 15 minutes before (not after) to match the amount of carbs eaten. It's duration of action is 3 - 5 hours, with most of the action in the first 2 hours.
You need to work out a carb:insulin ratio (ie. how much Humalog you need to cover how much carbs/ protein).
If you are going low overnight (how low?), then you need to be taking a lower dose of Humalog with your evening meal.
