Impaired fasting glucose diet

Common Questions and Answers about Impaired fasting glucose diet

glucose

Avatar n tn About a year and a half a year ago, I was diagnosed with impaired glucose fasting, fasting glucose level was 119. At that time I was complaining of constant thirst, frequent urination, and sometimes night sweats, and slow healing. 6 month follow-up (one year ago) the fasting glucose level was 113. A1C was 6.0 I have been modifiying diet, exercising frequently and have lost approx 10-12 lbs.
Avatar f tn I have had Impaired Fasting Glucose levels for at least 5 years, which I have not been actively trying to address until recently. A fasting glucose of 123, and glyco reading (from tests I requested. I know the 3-mo average glyco test is normally to monitor diabetic control, but my doctor 5 years ago used them also as a diagnostic tool. This made sense to me so I have continued her practice.) of 6.3 shook me out of my complacency in Oct 2009.
Avatar f tn I would recommend a OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test). My glucose was normal on fasting but abnormal two hours after drinking glucose. My fasting insulin was high and even higher two hours. (I would recommended insulin to be tested as well). In my case too much sugar in my diet lead to insulin resistance but hyperthyroidism caused impaired glucose tolerance.
Avatar n tn Levels between 100 and 126 mg/dl are referred to as impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes. These levels are considered to be risk factors for type 2 diabetes and its complications. Diabetes is typically diagnosed when fasting blood glucose levels are 126 mg/dl or higher. Note: mg/dL = milligrams per deciliter" Weight control and diet play a large, large part in controlling diabetes. For reading on diabetes control go here http://tinyurl.
Avatar n tn you have impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance based on those numbers you communicated. There is no definite recommendation at this time regarding medication treatment for these levels of abnormal glucose handling, but in many cases where other issues are present(such as high cholesterol, being overweight, family history of diabetes and high blood pressure) some doctors will start a low dose of Metformin. That is something you may consider discussing with your doctor as well.
Avatar f tn The most common cause of small fibre peripheral neuropathy listed is diabetes or glucose intolerance. I have permanent nerve damage from B12 deficiency and insulin resistance/impaired glucose tolerance. I've never had abnormal fasting glucose levels but my glucose went too high however after I drank a glass of glucose (2 hour oral glucose tolerance test - OGTT) which showed I had impaired glucose tolerance.
Avatar m tn Both of your values suggest that you have impaired fasting glucose (range 100 - 125). The measurement is the same in fasting and non fasting testing - the difference is in the reference range. A normal fasting glucose is < 100 and the current thinking seems to be that even a result in the mid to high 90s might suggest close monitoring. The answer to your question is that it doesn't matter whether they call it non fasting or fasting glucose test result.
534105 tn?1226157177 s lab tests, they show signs of glucose handling abnormalities referred to as impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance. They are part of a stage known as prediabetes. Right now the options for your Mom would include changes in dietary and exercise habits to try to bring her levels back to normal (this is usually our first course of action), or starting a drug called Metformin(this is up to your doctor and your mom to decide).
Avatar f tn Start with diet and exercise. You don't mention whether you are overweight or a Type II diabetic, but sometimes those things are connected with high cholesterol. You can't control your HDL and LDL, just your consumption of fat from animal products. If you over eat meat or full-fat dairy, you will have problems. Try modifying your diet and exercise to see if you can get your cholesterol to below 200 before you go on statin drugs.
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
968908 tn?1274871115 Since you have been diagnosed for 2 years did your doctor give you a time to come back for more testing?
Avatar n tn In general, people who have a fasting plasma blood glucose in the 100-125 mg/dl range are defined as having impaired fasting glucose. If your doctor gives you an oral glucose tolerance test, and at two-hours your blood glucose is 140-199 mg/dl, you have "impaired glucose tolerance." Either of these is medical terminology for what could be referred to as "pre-diabetes." Be sure to ask your doctor what your exact blood sugar test results are.
Avatar m tn Normally they will only do this if you are having low blood sugars. It looks like you have impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes, which puts you at a higher risk of developing diabetes in the future.
Avatar f tn ve had HCV for 34 years, and before I even knew that I had the virus, my fasting glucose was impaired. 20 years ago, my fasting glucose was at 106, which is considered pre-diabetic. I've read that people with 'pre-diabetes' will typically have full blown diabetes within 10 years. My numbers now are about what they were in the 90s. Low 100s, or sometimes they've been normal. Best to you.
1452593 tn?1285187324 Oh, I'm used to hearing that referred to as a OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test). I'm only aware of its use as a diagnostic tool to test first and second phase insulin responses. It's more useful than a fasting blood sugar for diagnosis, because some people still have normal fasting, long after they've developed impaired glucose tolerance, so it catches those people who are pre-diabetic or diabetic sooner.
Avatar m tn There are two conditions that fit into this category. One is called Impaired Fasting glucose (IFG) and the other is Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT). IMPAIRED FASTING GLUCOSE is defined as glucose levels of 100 to 125 mg per dL in fasting patients. Impaired Glucose Tolerance is defined as two-hour glucose levels of 140 to 199 mg per dL on the 75-g oral glucose tolerance test." I would still talk to your doctor about it. You only have a few weeks left of treatment.
Avatar m tn Oral glucose tolence report is showing fasting 92mg/dl and after OGTT ist hour 189mg/dl and 2nd hour 184mg/dl in the blood is this problems?
Avatar f tn 80 and glucose pp: 50 . Why my pp sugar is less than fasting. I experience weakness and feel hungry just after an hour after having meal. I also tested my son for the same n results are glucose fasting:90 glucose pp:85..why is my son sugar pp levels r also less just like me though is not genetically my son. I again tested my son insulin fasting which is 12 and insulin pp which is 18 . This result is more than the range. What does it signify.
649848 tn?1534633700 I, recently, had a Glucose Tolerance Test due to fluctuating fasting glucose and weight issues, but the worst symptom is tiredness/afternoon crash. The results of the GTT were as follows: Fasting: 97 1 hr: 165 2 hr: 124 3 hr: 48 L 4 hr: 56 L Over the past 5 years, my fasting glucose levels have ranged from around 97 or 98 all the way up to 125, but never over 125. My A1c has ranged from 5.5 to 5.8 over the same period and my doctor has said I'm pre-diabetic.
