Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for incontinence

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Haemorrhoids may not be related to the surgery. Back pain and incontinence may be related to the sling surgery. For the incontinence you need to see an urologist. Hope this helps. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Yes, I agree, it's called stress incontinence, it affects a lot of women, there is no cure for it, but your doctor can give a script to help you control it.
Avatar f tn I am 3 weeks post-op for a partial hysterectomy and suddenly developed incontinence. I had bladder spasms within the first 7 days of surgery, but they went away. This just came on suddenly, and I don't see my doctor till Monday. This is horrible. I have never birthed children, only pushed to eliminate my colon in the past. Sometimes I have waited too long to go and have leaked prior to surgery, but it was from being too busy. The minute I stand I leak. I have to wear maxi pads.
Avatar m tn I had a repair for a rectocele and an entrocele and at the same time a hysterectomy. The hyst was done vaginally, the repairs were done laprascopically through 5 incisions. I am still having heavy discharge vaginally. I still have incontinence at times, and at others I am constipated. I am afraid the op has not been totally successful although the doctor says it will settle down. Has anyone had the same experience?????
Avatar f tn Since I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst (3 x the size of my ovary) about 9 months ago, I have had problems with stress incontinence. If I cough, sneeze or laugh too hard, I leak urine...bad enough to wear a sanitary pad. Even after my partial hysterectomy 5 years ago and removal of some of my vaginal wall for cervical cancer I didn't experience this, and now I am. I also am experiencing severe pain and an incredible fullness in my stomach.
Avatar f tn I have been to Cleveland Clinic for severe cramping when ready for bowel movement. This was diagnosis and treated for IBS. Meds do not help this situation ... wondering if anyone else has experienced. Questions to physicians would be since I had complete hysterectomy and everything has dropped should I seek a surgeon to lift up ? Very painful. Also incontinence is becoming on issue feeling like pressure there. Thank you appreciate your thoughts or anyone thoughts from forum on this subject.
2091079 tn?1332816899 Look for a responsible and responsive physician. Hysterectomies are MAJOR surgeries. Don't let anyone belittle your needs or concerns. GET HELP!
Avatar n tn What are the odds for regaining urinary control after a radical hysterectomy? Will the nerves grow back? My friend has absolutely no awareness. We're attempting bladder retraining at this time with routine toileting, but so far, it's not helping. Is there treatment for this condition?
Avatar f tn There are other options too. You should discuss all this with your gynecologist to determine what is the best for you and for your specific condition.
Avatar f tn Will give as brief a history as possible. Had hysterectomy 7 weeks ago b/c of large fibroid which was pressing on my bladder. I have had "overflow" incontinence for 20 years. Surgery entirely corrected the problem for approximately 3 weeks. I now am emptying much slower, have sharp pain at final stage of elimination and have some "overflow" incontinence with a reddish acidic (smells like acetic acid) discharge. There are RBC's in urine but negative culture results.
8831133 tn?1415915535 and that I could possibly have some incontinence after the surgery. But that was his reasoning for not doing the additional mid urethral sling. I'm now a little over 4 weeks post op and not looking forward to additional surgeries. The incontinence is some better but not completely gone away. I see my urogyn on June 4th. I was so hoping this would take care of everything and I'm somewhat aggravated that it didn't. :( Thanks again for your response.
Avatar f tn I ran across medical literature that described useing a pessary for vaginal vault prolapse after hysterectomy. Keep looking and get a second opinion. Good luck ,I hope you avoid surgery.
1100598 tn?1413127426 Chemo put me into menopause for 9 months and I started having heavy, painful, irregular periods. I saw a Gyn and he suggests at least the removal of both ovaries and the tubes to help prevent ovarian cancer. He said that a full hysterectomy is not as necessary. But down the road, there is a chance of getting uterine or cervical cancer. I don't really want to have either surgery, but I refuse to go through chemo again. So now I don't know which surgery to have.
Avatar n tn t want to give up uterine orgasms, and given the CA-125 is 15, the cyst looks mostly simple (one thin septation, no solid areas), I am wondering why I would need to have the uterus removed. I have had two prolongued periods, which led me to the gyn for the checkup, which led to the us that found the cyst, but don't have a really long history of long periods. The gyn thinks the longer periods may be due to perimenopause and wants to spare me years of prolongued bleeding.
Avatar f tn Hi, Three years ago I started to experience OAB following a total hysterectomy, radiation and chemo procedures in the treatment of Uterine Cancer. It has steadily got worse, to the point where I am up five or six times a night, and experiencing problems with the management in my place of employment. I have been treated with two different meds and a recent ultra sound showed the kidney and bladder to be normal. My urologist is doing a second microscope examination next month.
Avatar f tn The lower back pain could be from the cyst or the anatomical / skeletal changes caused by the severing of uterine ligaments during hysterectomy. I am 9 years post- hysterectomy and have occasional back (and hip) pain.
279234 tn?1363105249 However, there were some side effects she described that seemed to me to be as uncomfortable (or more) than what I am experiencing now with the prolapsed vagina. I have no problems with incontinence, I am fine, in fact I can go for hours & hours without urinating. I never wet myself at night or when coughing or sneezing, and I feel I can put up with this bulging and just keep myself clean and not have any surgery at all.
Avatar n tn My doctor said that this may be causing some of the incontinence. Anyways...She did a urinalysis and some blood work to check me for lupus and diabetes and all came back normal except the urinalysis. It showed microscopic blood. She put me on antibiotics and gave me enablex and detrol (neither which have worked). I went back in for a recheck and the repeat urinalysis was exactly the same as before.
Avatar f tn Had a scan last August due to reaction from a drug for urine incontinence, scan showed right ovar normal, left ovary visibility not seen in left adnaxe there appears to be a focal structure with dense internal echoes -38 x 27 x 43. Had another scan January they said left ovary larger than it should be for my age etc, I'm 53 had a hysterectomy when I was 24 conserveing both ovaries.
739070 tn?1338603402 HI All, I received this update on one of the medical sites I use and thought there might be some interest. Botox has been used off-label for urinary incontinence but it is FDA approved which may help those whose insurance won't pay for off-label use of drugs. The article is shown below: FDA NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release: August 25, 2011 Media Inquiries: Jeffrey Ventura, 301-796-2807, jeffrey.
Avatar f tn use to have incontinence sometimes i have incontinence....the pain OMG the pain lower back both sides of my abdomen pain under my ribs...gastroinstinal problems...hurt when I walk...I have to use a body pillow....fatigue Basically I just cant function sometimes I cant eat. I cant work, I cant go to school. Suspect its endometriosis but ovarian cancer is also a suspect with my obgyn. Im scared, he is saying he might have to remove my ovaries...if the endo?
Avatar f tn Well I had a hysterectomy a year ago this July, however I did not have a sling done. That being said, for me the hormones played a bigger role in my sex drive then my hysterectomy did. I have a small problem with urinary incontinence but only when I cough. I can honestly say that once I started on hrt therapy, my sex drive went into to overdrive. I can't imagine no longer enjoying sex.
1949068 tn?1449628519 ~NOTE~ I had this posted in the Urology Community--only the doctor responded to it. But, I feel this is a better area to get it answered! So this is a repost from there! I have a question or two? I have been having Stress Urinary Incontinence and Overflow Incontinence. Which I had this every since I had my last child which was in 2001. I have been having these issues (even way before my Hysterectomy on Nov. 16, 2011). Now, I know what it is and have names for it.
