Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia

hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn You have posted on the type 2 forum, hyperglycemia, not type 1 aka juvenile diabetes. Prepare yourself to ask your doctor questions by using Google and search on 'hyperglycemia testing' and/or 'type 1 diabetes testing'. Also, call the doctor's office and ask if you should fast 8-10 hours prior. To add to allymarbles, an endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in diabetes care and treatment. Most PCP's know only basic care - here take this pill, call me later.
Avatar m tn How could you say he had hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia without knowing what the blood sugars are. He did state that they were in normal range. Palpitations may not even be related to blood sugar.
1770925 tn?1365618522 I have hypoglycemia for years and I don't eat sugary foods or fried foods. I eat small meals 6 times a day. Fruit and vegetables and soy products. Just fish etc. I am just saying that small meals often is the way to go with hypoglycemia. This eating regime helps my sugar stay level and not low, but if I stress the sugar drops and ginger helps me. I am not on any medication. See your Dr for advice.
Avatar n tn Yes, hypoglycemia can be an early warning sign of diabetes, or you might have something else going on. Talk to your doctor. Tell him what you are experiencing. Then make sure you get an A1C test, not just a fasting blood sugar test. The A1C tests all your glucose for the last couple months, not just one moment.
Avatar f tn m in a position to I will take a nap. I asked my doctor to give me a test for either hypoglycemia or diabetes II (as my grand father had this) but he refused. He said I wasn't heavy enough and more than likely my condition was down to my "low" iron count ( he said 17 it should be 20??). Any ideas what this could be down to?? I tend to need to urinate ALL the time, I don't perticularly drink loads but normal amount I would say. Any help would be most appreciated.
Avatar n tn trembling, clammy skin, palpitations (pounding or fast heart beats),anxiety, sweating, unger, andirritability. When the brain remains deprived of glucose, a later set of symptoms follows: ifficulty in thinking, confusion, eadache, seizures, and coma. Ultimately, after significant coma or loss of consciousness, death can occur.
Avatar n tn If you are prediabetic you would have hyperglycemia as well as hypoglycemia. What did your doctor suggest about the results? Might be useful to have another test such as an OGTT to measure your bodies response to sugar or an A1C to get your overall average blood sugar for a three month period.

A simple Google search on cidex disinfectant and copd returned this page http://tiny.
Avatar n tn is it possible in severe cases of hypoglycemia for diabetes-type symptoms to occur when the sugar level gets too high, or would they only happen when the sugar gets below the normal level?
Avatar n tn I am a Type II diabetic and what you have described sounds like hypoglycemia vs. hyperglycemia (diabetes). I have experienced hypoglycemia on several occasions and my symptoms were quite similar to yours. See your doc right away.
Avatar f tn Last week I was diagnosed with insulin resistent Hypoglycemia. I am not obese....although I am overweight by about 25 lbs. I am 36 year old female. My family does have late onset history ( my dad) but he was not diagnosed until late 50's. I do exercise although not everyday. I was put on Metformin to help regulate my Insulin and told to stay away from concentrated sweets. I guess I am a little concerned about this since I am fairly young.
Avatar f tn part (which is a characteristic as well of Type II diabetes) in people diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia is related to the chemical process that causes the Hypoglycemia (an excess of insulin). My quick search turned up dozens of articles so you should have no problem getting more information. I would also speak more to your doctor. I'm curious about that 166 blood sugar you mentioned as that is high (hyperglycemic) not low (hypoglycemic). Good luck on figuring it all out.
Avatar n tn My two year old son was unable to wake up Thanksgiving morning. He was basically unreponsive and the paramedics took him to ER. He did not respond to IV's or needle sticks at all. His blood sugar was 56, CO2 was low and ketones were 80 (high). They say it was a seizure. The night before he ate very little for dinner with no snack before bed. I have researched a little about Ketotic Hypoglycemia. Doe anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar m tn I started taking Lyrica due to nueropathy pain in my arms that made it difficult to sleep. Since I have started Lyrica ( i take one 50mg capsule before bedtime) I have noticed a very large spike in my blood sugar levels in the early hours of the morning. I have been monitering these changes and have done nothing different in regards to diet and insulin dosages. Last night when I went to bed my glucose level was 140, that was at 11:00 P.M., 4 hours after I ate a light dinner.
Avatar m tn So a few weeks a go at a camp I was shaking uncontrollably for about four days. When ever I'd eat a bunch of cookies or juice it would stop or calm down then start up again an hour later. What happened and why?
Avatar f tn re trying to figure out what caused the memory loss the diabetes or the gallbladder removal.
Avatar f tn t know if it is the same as checking levels for regular hyperglycemia, or if I might need to test under a different time frame (other than 2 hours after a meal). Again, these symptoms have been constant, they have not stopped or paused despite sitting, resting, and irregardless of what I ate. I just don't want to keep feeling this way, but if it's symptoms of withdrawal, I would rather deal with it than take the Lexapro again.
Avatar m tn feeling tired all of a sudden even though I have slept for 8 hours or more. Constantly thirsty! Feeling faint but not fainting, sometimes everything goes black and takes a minute or so to come back to we're I can see, feeling week as well. It's starting to get really annoying!
Avatar n tn All of this has started within this year plus bad cholesterol is good good cholesterol is bad and Triglycerides are slightly elevated. Is there a relationship or link to Hyperthyroid and Hyperglycemia? Is all of this related? Should I take a watch and see? Is there others reasons my Thyhroid tests are coming back slightly out of range? What does Heterogeneous Thyroid mean? Is that normal?
Avatar m tn I am wondering if I have had insulin resistance developing for a few years, but the constant stress of the problem caused cortisol to stop being produced as much, either because of exhaustion or as a protective mechanism against hyperglycemia and elevated insulin. If this is the case, is it possible that these hormone imbalances are "masking" more overt insulin resistance problems? If so, could insulin resistance be the key behind why my hormones are so imbalanced?
Avatar f tn Have you had a glucose tolerance test (GTT) done? Hypoglycemia can cause you to feel and/or be shaky, This would typically happen if you went too long without eating. There is a condition known as hyperinsulinemia that can cause hypoglycemia. Basically, you eat something containing carbs, your body overreacts with the amount of insulin it sends, and when your body finally starts using the insulin properly, you have too much of it there and you end up with low blood sugar levels.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia (Low Blood sugar) is a form of Diabetes. The other Form is Hyperglycemia (High Blood sugar). So yes you are Diabetic.
Avatar n tn It says diabetes is indicated when fasting blood sugars are 126 or higher. Yours are in between those with 120-130. So, this may be something to ask your doctor about. Are you seeing an Endocronologist?-that is a diabetes specialist-sounds like you are, but I wanted to make sure. Losing weight is not easy! Are you walking or doing some other activity? I try to go on my treadmill for 1/2 an hour everyday. I have several friends who had success with weight watchers.
Avatar n tn either an endocrinologist or a diabetologist. A general practice physician will not have the depth or breadth of knowledge needed to help you learn to manage the disease. Good luck. Push past the fear to contact a doctor for a full workup. You'll relieve a lot of your fear by then being able to focus on managing whatever "it" is.
Avatar f tn This is why they tell you to talk to your doctor if you develop any sign of this such as increased thirst or urination, excessive hunger, or weakness. More crucial if you are already diabetic you should regularly check your blood sugar levels. In fact most AP's do the same, seroquel another example So my view is that perhaps since you stopped it, you get what is called a reverse action like hypoglycemia in which case you get headaches of course.
