Hypoglycemia glucose tablets

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia glucose tablets

hypoglycemia

2088051 tn?1334542007 Yes, as sally mentioned, by all means get a home glucose test meter and test, test, test to learn when your glucose drops below normal levels. Carbs are your worst enemy. After a high carbohydrate meal your blood sugar increases which forces your pancreas to produce more insulin. This in turn may cause a hypoglycemic episode. It's probably in your best interest to carry glucose tablets and/or hard candy to combat the lows. G-tablets can be purchased at most drug stores OTC.
Avatar n tn I stand corrected for my oversight. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Read this web page and learn to recognize low blood sugar [glucose] symptoms and learn when to use the glucose tablets to raise your glucose levels back to normal. But by all means do as much research as you can on Hypoglycemia symptoms, treatment and control methods. If you can't locate glucose tablets, keep hard candy handy for when your glucose drops below normal. http://diabetes.emedtv.com/search.html?
Avatar n tn We called 911, and by the time the paramedics showed up, I had been eating glucose tablets, and was up to 52, they followed with a tube of glucose liquid, and I rose to 120 by the time I got to the hospital. After a 2 day "Hangover" (How i feel after an episode) things seem stable. I also believe these attacks are tied very closely with some sort of adrenaline issue as I have horrible Panic Attacks. The 2 (adrenaline and insulin) are very closely related.
Avatar f tn I used to carry around glucose tablets and munch a couple when it would hit but I find the juice seems to work faster
Avatar n tn Have fast acting glucose available as well, and test how she responds to that glucose. The best type of fast acting glucose are glucose tablets, you can get them at Walgreens stores, as well as most pharmacies. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Your current doctor is a good example. Also, get glucose tablets. Take one when feeling dizzy/faint or lightheaded. This will raise your glucose levels. Do not over due it as they are for emergency use only. These are the tests you should request from your new doctor. Be sure to get a copy of the lab results for your own records. Lab result sheets are marked with low and high ranges, or < [less than] indicator for each test. You want to fall between those numbers or be below the number. 1.
Avatar n tn You appear to be playing a guessing game with your glucose level by checking only weekly. As the previous poster stated, you need to obtain a home glucose meter. When should you check your glucose? 1. Right after waking and before eating breakfast. Do not eat anything at least 8 hours prior. This is called preprandial (before eating) level. 2. Then postprandial (2-4 hours after eating). The latter is when glucose levels peak from the food you have consumed. 3.
Avatar n tn First, if he has several lows in a short periiod of time and seems to be dropping lower before noticing or behaving oddly, then you should do as your doctor just arranged for -- raise those glucose levels for a period of 2 weeks, according to the study on hypoglycemia unawareness. The study indicated that this is the length of time needed for the body to return to normal with normal warnings if a pattern of lows has caused the symptoms to dissapear.
Avatar m tn It is not unreasonable to take two 1000 mg Metformin tablets a day, provided you get regular liver function testing. Or three 500 mg tablets. But you should not do so blindly. And you can't count on "feeling" to sense your glucose levels. Intense blood glucose testing is the only way to get a handle on whether or not your medications are being properly used. Many diabetic clinics have a download feature where you come in and they download information from your meter.
Avatar f tn Your situation is complicated by the other meds you are taking, or tapering off of, and I don't have any recommendations for that. In terms of lows, however. If you have symptoms of lows, test your blood sugar. If you are under 60, you need to treat it. (Some people treat under 70). I would suggest using glucose tablets so you don't overtreat the low with good tasting sweets. I take 2 of them, you may need the same or more, we're all different.
Avatar m tn She came back over this morning still dizzy. We bought gluclose tablets, which said its the same as oj or a glass of pop and works faster... SO- this is my question. Since the test say she isn't diabetic, what could be causing the low blood sugar? Is this normal for a 14 yr old? What about anxiety after the horrible trama of losing her mother 2 years ago? We are going back to the DR...
Avatar f tn You should treat anything below 60. Treating means taking glucose tablets or drinking juice. The tendency is to overtreat and than go high, so it takes some experimentation to find what amount works well for you. If you take two glucose tablets you can test again in 15-20 minutes and see if you have come up enough.
Avatar n tn Until then, always check your blood sugars before driving and be sure to pull over if you feel strange. Keep glucose tablets or gel in your purse(or on your person), bedside and vehicles at all times. Take care.
1654177 tn?1319838494 The OGTT sees how well your body shed excess glucose. The A1c looks at your glucose levels over the past 2-3 months. Kaiser doc should have ordered these tests - email her and request labs. Numb Feet and Diabetes This could be associated with diabetic neuropathy which is damage to the nerves. When a nerve is pinched, per se, for a period of time and then is released it will "Wake up" and cause that shooting, tingling, cramping, numbness feeling. Poor circulation is another cause.
Avatar n tn In situations of pre-diabetes, we often hear that people have bouts of hypoglycemia. This happens when the glucose levels start to rise too much and the person's body over-compensates by producing too much insulin. Many hypoglycemic folks eventually do end up being diabetic after the pancreas wears itself out and is no longer able to lower those glucose levels. Most doctors recommend a diet fairly low in carbohydrates to avoid stimulating the already over-active pancreas.
Avatar n tn You have to treat any blood sugar under 60 with the appropriate (for you) number of glucose tablets. Some people treat at 70, but at that number if it is mealtime I would go ahead and eat, being sure to eat some carbs. If you are experiencing lows on a very regular basis you should talk to your doctor or endo.
Avatar f tn When you say "I take my 15mcg cytomel 2 in AM and 1 Mid Afternoon", I assume you mean 2 - 5 mcg tablets in the morning and 1 5 mcg tablet Mid-afternoon, is that correct? Have you tried splitting the pills evenly so you're getting 7.5 mcg at each dose? Or take your afternoon dose closer to noon instead of midafternoon?
Avatar f tn Sounds like hypoglycemia to me. Try keeping your blood-sugar levels steady by snacking frequently-- every 2-3 hours is ideal. Sweets don't count. They cause a rapid rise in blood sugar followed by a hard crash, leaving you craving more sugar. Carry a ziploc bag in your purse or a little cooler in your car with whole foods like almonds, natural trail mix, baby carrots, whatever you like. And always stay hydrated. You should feel the difference within a day or two.
Avatar n tn I HAVE HAD HYPOGLYCEMIA FOR OVER 7 YEARS. CAN I TURN INTO A DIABETES. I HAVE BEEN GETTING SYSTMON OF DIABETES BUT MY GLUCOSA TEST COMES OUT LOW OF 62 FASTING IN THE MORNING .MY HANDS AND FEET FALL ASLEEP AT NIGHT. I HAVE TROUBLE WALKING MY LEGS HURT ESPECIAL IF I SIT FOR A WHILE.
Avatar f tn Though a rare disorder, pancreatic insulinomas should also be thought of in your case and have someone check your blood sugar while you have an anxiety *** hunger attack. The hypoglycemia in this is transient and there is a quick increase in blood glucose once you eat. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.
Avatar n tn My uncle has diabetes, i can't believe how expensive the glucose tablets are, i've searched high and low for a cheap price and found a site with quite a cheap price on such tablets. http://cutpricepills.com/?
Avatar f tn I am 29 yrs old and I have had occasional ( once or twice a week ) lower right side pain and hypoglycemia issues my entire life. When I was in my early 20s I began having anxiety attacks on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Medication has lessened the attacks but I still have them once or twice a month. I have developed a bit of a theory that maybe the side pain, low blood sugar and panic attacks may somehow be related?
233382 tn?1193658141 Later on, I tested and found my glucose was 25 mg/dl.
Avatar f tn I got a call from my doctor two days later and my glucose was 56. They were concerned about me being possibly hypoglycemic. Been checking it on and off and reading a lot on the subject but no definite answer as to what I need to be watching for in the future. It ranges from being in the 60s to 120s. The highest I've ever saw it go is 122 but that was two hours after eating.
649848 tn?1534633700 I, recently, had a Glucose Tolerance Test due to fluctuating fasting glucose and weight issues, but the worst symptom is tiredness/afternoon crash. The results of the GTT were as follows: Fasting: 97 1 hr: 165 2 hr: 124 3 hr: 48 L 4 hr: 56 L Over the past 5 years, my fasting glucose levels have ranged from around 97 or 98 all the way up to 125, but never over 125. My A1c has ranged from 5.5 to 5.8 over the same period and my doctor has said I'm pre-diabetic.
