Avatar f tn I did a quick search because I have heard the term reactive hypoglycemia and was curious. It sounds like Reactive Hypoglycemia refers to people that have low blood sugar after eating, even if they eat sufficient carbs. It seems as though Reactive Hypoglycemia exists in some people entirely separate from any diagnosis of diabetes. (but they check to make sure as hypoglycemia is a symptom often experienced by diabetics).

Avatar m tn I am a 64 year old male have been diabetic type 2 for 12 years now, highest a1c has ever been is 6.2. The last couple years it has been 5.4 to 5.6 range and all I have ever taken is metformin hcl 500 mg twice a day. Evillady However, if you delay its dose, then it has little impact. It may cause weight gain. It is used only in patients where metformin and other drugs are not effective. Since both insulin and Bydurean is taken by subcutaneous injection, it is always preferable to switch to insulin as it has minimal side effects. However, with insulin, you need to be very careful to eat on time as it may cause hypoglycemia. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!
Avatar f tn t say you tested low on blood sugar and metformin is usually used for more serious situations of diabetes, or at least I think that's true. At any rate, given your situation, you need to see a professional in both allopathic and natural medicine and especially someone who can analyze your diet to see where you're going wrong. Which means I wouldn't at this point mix adrenal balancers with what you're doing right now given that both can lower blood sugar. Good luck.
587778 tn?1261397118 If you have a family history of fibroids, and you take metformin... you should again reconsider... metformin helps your hormones get in line which should increase estrogen, estrogen is a culprit in fibroids........ YOU NEED RESEARCH, lots of it and another doctor's opinion. Please do not take this lightly, if you live in the USA, you should know they love to just make a diagnosis, and usually do not care if it is exactly accurate..... IT IS YOUR LIFE, YOUR HEALTH.....
Avatar n tn At that time, I was overweight (75kg) for my height (160cm) and was not careful with my diet, under lot of stress at work and not getting regular exercise. My doctor put me on Metformin (500mg twice a day) and advised me on proper diet and exercise. I lost about 5kg within 5-6 weeks by simply changing my diet and regular exercise (70kg by mid June). However, at the same time I began feeling hypoglycemic after everytime I took Metformin.

Avatar n tn ) Your symptoms point towards Hypoglycemia and taking Metformin will do more harm than good. Google Hypoglycemia, read and understand how to take control of it. Then 1.) Get a diabtetes A1c test from another doctor. 2.) See a specialist on Bipolar disorders. 3.) See a Nutritionist and/or a Dietitian for your eating disorder. Don't mix these diseases together and treat them individually.

I am just having extreme fatigue and muscle cramping after 2 weeks of being on it. She is going to check to make sure I don't have acidosis of the blood. Avatar f tn Without proper testing results one assumption is you experienced reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia [or alimentary hypoglycemia] is low glucose [blood sugar] that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Try the following: • Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, no more than three hours apart. • Eat a well-balanced diet including lean and nonmeat sources of protein and high-fiber foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables.

Once I eat or drink (nonwater) anything I feel better for about 15minutes then I feel very tired and get a pressure type headache with dizziness. I was on Metformin for the IR but with no results, it would make me feel dizzy and tired on top of the stomach problems. Suggestions??
