Avatar m tn A doctor in the country to where we recently moved changed my medication to a combination of Ramipril plus Hydrochlorothiazide tablet and eliminated the Lasix. He also eliminated the potassium supplement. I am concerned that I should still be taking the potassium supplement. What are your thoughts? Is there a danger in not continuing the potassium supplement, and is the potassium supplement still necessary while taking this new diuretic combo?

Avatar m tn It is a combination of Valsartan and the same diuretic as Hyzaar. It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is also in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
Avatar f tn According to product labeling, medications such as hydrochlorothiazide (generic forms and in combination with other blood pressure medications) should not be given to sulfa-allergic patients, while medications such as furosemide (Lasix®) can be used. If a diuretic is needed in a sulfa-allergic patient, it is recommended that the first dose of the medication be given under medical supervision. http://allergies.about.com/od/medicationallergies/a/sulfa.

Avatar n tn After having a echocardiogram that revealed a 10% ejection fraction, the local cardiologist told my brother that he must have had several heart attacks (he never had any symptoms whatsoever) and he performed two angiograms concurrently to verify his findings and pronounced that my brother needed a heart transplant, our brother was placed on Lanoxen and a Nitro patch plus Lasix and set up with a heart transplant team.
574118 tn?1305135284 My mother 58 years old was very slim at her youth. In recent years she became very obese. Being not a doctor, yet i suspected problems with her heart or some water retention.i.e. kidney issues. A few weeks ago she traveled to Europe and caught pneumonia due to hard weather conditions. But that was not a curse since coming back we did x-rays and she got rid of the effusion in lungs and is recovering. Yet the x-rays showed the leftlobe bigger meaning some swelling in the heart.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coreg, Enapril and Hydrochlorothiazide, for the past three years. During this time my legs have started tingling and feet are so sensitive, I can hardly wear shoes. My legs feel cold all the time and pains in my toes when walking sometimes. My knees hurt really bad also. I have been reading about side effects of the Three medications I take, they all mention side effects of pain like the ones I have experienced.

458824 tn?1208548989 I normally take the fluid pill Lasix and I do currently have a refill available. I am retaining water and would like to take my Rx if it would not hurt anything. I was sick with a viral/bacterial infection around the time I became pregnant when I miscarried. I believe the medication I took for coughing that had hydrocodone in it could have been related to the miscarriage. I had no idea I was even pregnant when I took it. I miscarried at 6 weeks.
Avatar n tn What is the correct lasix dosage for a 75 pound doberman pincher? He has congestion from an enlarged heart (dilated cardiomyopathy -DCM ) and is taking two 5mg tablets of Vetmedin (Pimobendan) 2x daily and 20mg Benaepril once daily. Any suggestions regarding treatment? We spent much $ and lost 2 loved dobies several years ago (and nearly did him) before our recent discovery of DCM-- which seems to kill most dobies.
Avatar n tn Yestersday, the vet prescribed very mild dosage of lasix for my dog and should I start giving her lasix now or should I wait till her steriod to wear off ( when she stop shivering and panting)? Vet is afraid lasix may cause her pancreatitise to come back again if given larger dose. When dogs are given lasix does it means the pet do not live that long? Please advise. Thank you for helping.
Avatar f tn Do tinnitis and migraines often go together? Would hydrochlorothiazide be causing my ringing ears? I suffer with migraines with PMS and if I eat something with MSG.
Avatar n tn 5 is the amount of hydrochlorothiazide, a common diuretic used to eliminate water, that is added to the Avalide. So in this case, you are getting 300mg of irbesartan and 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide. It's a duel treatment for hypertension and is very normal.
Avatar n tn My blood pressure is 164 / 111. The doctor I saw prescribed Hydrochlorothiazide 25 MG. Is this ok to start with? My eyes are bloodshoot and my calves and ankles swell and my knees hurt.

Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar f tn I'm presently on atenolol 40 mg (along with hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.
