1243333 tn?1296446902 High blood pressure is not good for the heart and can lead to decreased function and an increase in angina. Your blood pressure should really be less than 140/90 and if you have diabetes or chronic kidney disease it should be less than 130/80. If you aren't on the maximal dose of Norvasc which is 10mg and the highest dose of Valturna then your physicians should probably start another bp agent such as Hydrochlorothiazide or increase the cattapress patch. Why are you on spironolactone?
Avatar m tn I suspect it was out-of-control hypertension which caused her kidney function to deteriorate. I measured her BP at 200/110 several occasions over the weekend. She says she was stressed out on weekends. But her resting BP on weekdays was still around 160/100. I don't know what her internist has been doing but they apparently thought her hypertension was under control. She stopped taking Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg, something she was on, a while ago.
1668318 tn?1306416764 Hi weighing yourself and getting on a diuretic is not testing you. Did she run tests? Do you know??
941525 tn?1245298724 So congestive heart failure has definitely been ruled out? Have you ever been tested for pure autonomic failure? You might check ndrf website, an or that talks about dysautonomia. Did you also get your catecholamines tested when you were in the midst of one of these episodes? Also, did they do a plasma free metanephrine blood test on you? If you had a pheochromocytoma, it can emit catecholamines intermittantly and have quiet periods where your catecholamines would be normal.
Avatar m tn I have had an heart failure due to high chotesterol so I am on medication for Hipertension/ High Cholesterol. I recent weeks after I start using Co-Diovan 160/12.5 mg in place of Hyzar I am experiencing a gradual tightening in the upper chest toward the neck/throat and it is as if i may stop breathing? I am not sure if the change in medication has anything to do with it! I use to to exercise for about 30 min. or more each day, I can do only 2-3 mins. and with great difficulty?
1165078 tn?1338655745 I've been on Keppra for over 3 yrs now, other than gain weight as soon as I was put on the drug, I've had numerous UTI's and kidney infec. as well as Kidney stones, I reduced my dosage by half (1000mg/day down to 500mg/day) over a period of 4 months last yr, still szr free, and blood levels come back with in therapeutic range (something my Neuro can't quite explain yet isn't making me go back up to the 1000mg/day). But I'm having more kidney issues.. am I alone on this?
Avatar f tn You mentioned edema- did they check your kidney function of your remaining kidney? Did they check to make sure you are not suffering from congestive heart failure (can cause edema)? I see you are on a non-potassium sparing diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide). Are they regularly checking your potassium to be sure it has not gone too low? Did they make sure your thyroid was not hypofunctioning (source of weight gain)?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with MSK last December. I've been struggling with kidney stones for over a year. Urologist did a 24 hr. urine collection which showed hypercalcemia (elevated calcium in blood) and extreme hypercalciuria (elevated calcium in urine). She though it pointed to hyperparathyroidism.
Avatar m tn Oh you poor thing! I do know how this feels. My husband died in January of 1999, and my dog only months later. It was very very hard indeed. Kidney Failure in such a young dog could have been caused by ingestion of some kind of toxin?..... acute illness or infection of some kind?....could be an inherited weakness?
Avatar f tn I hope you find it helpful somehow, and blessings for you and your dog - Blu Stage 3 kidney disease is one of the final stages of canine kidney disease, in which your dog will begin showing symptoms of kidney failure. Canine kidney disease occurs when, for whatever reason, your dog's kidneys are not doing their job of removing toxins from the blood efficiently. Often, by the time kidney disease reaches stage 3, kidney damage cannot be reversed.
Avatar m tn Hi. This sounds more like acute renal poisoning to me, but even if it is standard kidney failure there's still lots that can be done. Please join our User Group (Misfits4Me explains how above). Where do you live (country and region of the country)? What are you feeding your dog (please give specifics and full details)?
Avatar f tn You can also cluck on Groups to the right side of the page then click on Chronic Kidney failure in dogs. You may find more useful information as so many have and do deal with these issues. Is she gating sny meds for nausea? Have you tried the chicken (no skin) and rice with maybe some carrot or zucchini added? Have you tried one of the dry or canned diets for kudney probkems? You might try some canned green tripe. Some pet stores sell that now.
Avatar m tn Samantha is a nearly 18 years old bichon fries and was diagnosed with kidney failure on Oct 2. She has good days and bad days. Sam has been on daily IV fluids since Oct. She takes zantac, vitamins, cranberry, denamarin and anti phosphorous medicine twice daily. She has lost considerable weight and lately has become disinterested in food. I am supplementing her kittle intake of food with nutrical. That's the bad news.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 14 year old female that is currently freaking out. I was an idiot, and checked online for the symptoms of kidney failure because I had back pain around where the kidneys are... Avatar m tn Hi, I have kidney failure do to diabetes. What kinds of foods or supplements will help or hurt my kidneys? I've heard that co q10 is benefical. Any help would be beneficial!
Avatar f tn Its cute, looks like he is winding up getting ready for take off! I think that dealing with this kidney failure stuff is just so overwhelming. Your mind is spinning all the time, worrying constantly. Like I said, I know it didn't come on over night, but once it got bad, the symptoms came on hard and fast. I was getting up everyday scared at what the deal would hold. Checking on my dear dog wondering how much worse he was. Waking up everyday and seeing him deteriorate.
Avatar m tn Renal anomalies could be responsible for decreased or deranged renal function and may lead to renal failure. One working kidney is enough for normal functions of the body. It would be difficult to comment if your other symptoms could be related. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating nephrologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn My 6 year 10 month Russian Blue male cat was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with kidney failure. His only symptons were a bout of vomiting and lethargy. His blood work was quite elevated, BUN 83mg/dl, CREA 5.1mg/dl, PHOS 8.8mg/dl. He has been given fluids twice and we have been giving him Azodyl capsules twice a day. Also sprinkling Epikatin on his food twice a day. We have been trying to transition him to renal diet with not a lot of success.
3117443 tn?1341948135 I just had to let my old friend of 14 years go because of kidney failure. He was a typical Jack Russel Terrier and anyone who met him would not believe he was as old as he was. He still acted like the puppy I brought home so many years before. That was until the disease started taking over. I noticed he had not been eating and was quickly losing weight. Blood work was done and the diagnosis made.
3082157 tn?1340912205 My dog has kidney failure. She was eating the Vet Renal food but has gone off it. She wont eat, tried mince meat, egg, bread and rice but she is just turning her nose up.
541196 tn?1293552936 Hi there, I am hoping someone can help me with tying some symptoms and tests together so I can talk to my dr. who is already overwhelmed by me. I have been having reoccuring kidney/flank pain that last a week or more. Dr. is never sure if it's a kidney infection or kidney stone or something else. Urine test shows presence of blood AND protein. Urine is cloudy off and on when pain is present and often when pain is not present as well. I am 31 years old. Female.
