Avatar f tn Has anyone been successful using natural remedies such as lemon juice and apple cider vinegar in lowering urine calcium and uric acid levels? After several episodes of gross hematuria it was determined that I have bilateral stones. A 24 hr urine test showed elevated calcium and uric acid. I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects.
Avatar f tn I had some of the side effects listed under dangerous side effects and had to stop taking it. So I reminded my doctor of that and he put me on Hydrochlorothiazide. I took this for one day and was extremely sick the whole day. I started with some dizziness, and headache, then went to cramps which turned into very bad cramps. I wasn't too concerned at first because I read that as your body adjusts to it you can get a bit dizzy, and headache, and stomach upset.
Avatar m tn First of all, research your meds--even if you think they are insignificant. Vitamin D and multi-minerals will effect your heart rythm. There is a fine balance to be kept when you are dealing with vit D, calcium, magnesium, etc... Hyzaar can cause unusual tiredness, along with a lot of other things.

1398693 tn?1343684738 My Dr. prescribed Hydrochlorothiazide for my HBP on Saturday I started it and after 3 days I’m finding that I am getting more dizzy and I can’t stand without holding on to something also the ringing in my ears is louder than in the past couple of days. Avatar f tn I would like some advice on getting some type of OTC drug or natural supplement that may replace antibiotics. I have had a sinus and gum infection along w/headaches and tooth pain for 4 mos. I live in VA., and they don't sell antibiotics OTC like some sates do. In addition, I have BV and I hope that the antibiotic would help that too. Also, I'm uninsured and cannot see a physician, therefore, I cannot obtain a prescription.
Avatar n tn I prefer to not get on the chemical merry-go-round if at all possible, which require more medications and so forth and go the naturopathic route as that has no side effects, so is there a natural regimen I can take for the problem?
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar m tn I AM TAKING HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 25MG. I HAVE BEEN TAKEN THEM FOR 3 YRS NOW. THIS MEDICATION JUST STOP WORKING. MY DOCTOR WANTS TO ADD ANOTHER MEDICATION FOR ME TO TAKE. DOES THIS EVER GET BETTER. STAYS THE SAME OR DO THE MEDICATION YOU ARE TAKE ALWAYS GET ADJUSTED. UNTIL YOU ARE TAKEN 10 DIFFERENT MEDICATION. This discussion is related to blood presure medication.
Avatar f tn That should always be your first resort, since medication will not cure you, it will only treat symptoms. As for natural remedies, they are complicated and not so easy to describe how to use them, so the best bet is to see a naturopath if you want to try that road. A book to read is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA. We also don't know how old you are, and both certain medications and some natural remedies are inappropriate for people under a certain age.
Avatar f tn I'm presently on atenolol 40 mg (along with hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Has anyone used natural therapies for allergies with success? I found this: http://***.*****.com/allergies/all-modality/allergies/miscellaneous/which-alternative-therapies-are-used-in-the-treatment-of-allergies-and-how-effective-are-they.html which seems like a great resource. I've tried QBC (quercitin, bromelein, Vitamin C) mixes and had some luck with those, but only if I remember to take them all the time.
Avatar n tn 500 mg three times a day with meals Green tea extract (decaffeinated): 100 mg a day Grape seed extract: 100 mg a day Vitamin D3: 1,000 IU a day, Red Yeast Rice If you are currently on statins, you should share you concerns with your physician. Avatar m tn but who really knows if the natural cures can slow the progression until we die of natural causes...i guess most people dont want to take a chance....like me...id rather kill the beast now with big pharma..but one thing is for sure....
Avatar n tn s what they do to make money, whereas most therapy nowadays is done by psychologists and other therapists. As for natural remedies, a book to help you is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA. It's a good place to start, though the book is old. Because natural medicine works on different parts of the system instead of using just one remedy generally, it might be best to see a professional, such as a naturopath or physician who practices integrative medicine.
Avatar f tn Are they migraines, which is what imitrex is for (not sure of the relevance of coumadin for headaches)? There are natural remedies for migraines, but they'd be different than treating headaches, for which one would need to know what kind of headache.
Avatar f tn Holistic medicine used to have a sort of rule of thumb -- for every year you've had a problem it takes a month of natural treatment to fix it. But since everyone is different, some people get better with one treatment and others never get better from a particular treatment. I'd say, don't have specific expectations, just give it a good shot and hope for the best. Meaning, what others have experienced won't really have much meaning for you individually.
Avatar f tn I was recently told by a holistic/alternative person that my body was toxic and full of poop. She then sold me the oxypowder colon cleanse; 4 capsules for at least 7 days. I tried 2 and became dehydrated, plus do not like all the trips to the bathroom even in the middle of the night. What is your opinion on Colon Cleansing??
