Avatar m tn Perhaps the condition you have requires a stronger medication. Hydrochlorothiazide is often the first prescribed when blood pressure is elevated, is that why you are taking it?
1553775 tn?1325182402 Hello, I went to the doctor yesterday and I was prescribed hydrochlorothiazide for my blood pressure. I am really skeptical about taking this medication, or any medication for that matter. I am 21 years old and I cannot figure out why my blood pressure is high in the first place. I do have a lot of anxiety problems and I wonder if that contributes to it. I also take Paxil for my anxiety and I have been told that can cause high blood pressure.
1398693 tn?1343684738 Does any one know what blood pressure medication doesn't make your potassium level drop? I'm taking hydrochlorothiazide and everytime I get diarrhea I end up in the hospital because of a low potassium level.
Avatar n tn will drinking grapefruit juice interfere with hydrochlorothiazide or any other medication

Avatar m tn diltiazem or verapamil, which are more centrally acting). Beta blockers is a proven medication that improves survival in those who have suffered a heart attack, have coronary artery disesase, or heart failure. If there are indications for this, then it is usually a good idea to be on one. There is no absolute value of heart rate that is too low but the general rule that is accepted is you are symptomatic, then the dose should be decreased.
Avatar m tn My medication is Diovan 160mg and 12.5 mg valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. And yes this was a typo should read 121/71 This whole thing drive me crazy---- blood pressure keeps going down as I further into the squash game --- then I get dizzy.......
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I am new to this group. I am a 44 year old female. Never had high BP before. It was always around 120/80 except during pregnancy. For whatever the reason it would elevate then. About a year ago during a routine GYN exam, my doctor told me that when I came in and the nurse took my BP that it was very high. 175/115. He asked me if I had previously had any BP problems before and I said not that I know of. So he was nervous for me and wanted me to go to the hospital.
Avatar f tn What questions should I ask re what type of blood pressure medication I should be on? I tried benicar and lisinopril and caused sinus drainage - however, they worked Then tried hydrochlorothiazide which cause major constipation .... Now on amlopidine beselate and coreq cr and have fatigue....seems the latter meds are overkill as I had only one coronary stent over 10 hrs ago and cardiologist a few weeks ago said my heart is fine.
Avatar n tn He may adjust the dose or decide to change the medication all together. I noticed in your post that you are trying to get pregnant, while this medication is safe to take while you are pregnant...if you are planning to breastfeed, this drug can be passed through breast milk and cause harm to your baby. I just thought that this is something you might want to know. I wish you the best of luck as you try to get pregnant!
Avatar m tn I have had an heart failure due to high chotesterol so I am on medication for Hipertension/ High Cholesterol. I recent weeks after I start using Co-Diovan 160/12.5 mg in place of Hyzar I am experiencing a gradual tightening in the upper chest toward the neck/throat and it is as if i may stop breathing? I am not sure if the change in medication has anything to do with it! I use to to exercise for about 30 min. or more each day, I can do only 2-3 mins. and with great difficulty?
Avatar f tn Haven't started the new medication yet. I read the info sheet and it said "this medication may cause vision loss or other unwanted side effects" although most of the common vision problems and eye pain may be temporary and would be reversed if stopping the medication was what I was told. Further research says HCTZ may be associated with severe eye conditions that may lead to permanent impairment such as glaucoma etc, although I don't know how common that is.
Avatar m tn She was on Hydrochlorothiazide (HCZD) for a while but inexplicably discontinued the medication a few months ago after discussing with her doctor; apparently they felt her BP had normalized. Well, it clearly hasn't! I'm asking her to go on a low sodium diet. My impression is, her sodium intake is high. She likes spicy dishes.
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar f tn I'm presently on atenolol 40 mg (along with hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.
Avatar n tn This has not been reported as far as I know. I would take him off the medication because it could potentially make it worse. He should be seen by a specialits and have routine follow up with yearly echo's. Of course, keep in mind that echocardiography isn't always accurate and a better study such as an MRI will likely be done to make certain what his aorta really lookes like.

481256 tn?1208392293 t use OTC meds b/c the caffeine does not agree with me), and he prescribed me triamterene/hctz 37.5/25mg. Is this too strong of a medication? I am nervous that it may make my blood pressure drop too low. Is there anything else you would recommend?
Avatar f tn I am so confused because I have too many issues that can cause the same symptoms. Recently, my doctor switched me from Valsartan HCTZ to Hydrochlorothiazide plus regular Valsartan for my blood pressure. When I first started it, right away I was having rapid heart beat and shortness of breath so he told me take potassium supplements. That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium.
Avatar f tn In general, lisinopril should not be taken with potassium supplements or diuretics that conserve potassium [for example, hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene (Dyazide)], since blood potassium levels may rise to dangerous levels. PREGNANCY: Lisinopril should not be taken during pregnancy because fetuses and neonates have died when lisinopril was administered during pregnancy. NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known whether lisinopril is excreted in breast milk.
Avatar m tn Is it normal for a viral load to jump 22,000,000 in approximately one month or is there a possibility of incompetency on the trial doctors behalf. I take the same medication everyday since 2007, Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once a day and Terazosin 1 mg at bedtime. I am attaching my previous viral load results so you can see the gross difference in the results. I would appreciate any insight you could forward to me.
