Avatar m tn I am now taking hydrochlorothiazide (both for moderate hight blood pressure and to lower my water levels for the inner ear), and gabapentin for a neck spine condition (unrelated to the vertigo). My PCM states I am "suspect" for Minear's Syndrome but has not made a clinical diagnosis as of yet. Bottom line is I am trying to find a way back to normal. My work requires me to get up into high places (aircraft mechanic) and this condition is keeping me from my work.
Avatar m tn My wife, who is 56, has had left sided BPPV for years which caused episodes of vertigo. In 2000 she was diagnosed with bilateral BPPV. She was given the Epley Manoeuvre but this caused extremely severe vertigo, so severe that she was unable to walk and had to go home by ambulance car. The ENT surgeon had never seen anyone so ill after an Epley. She tried VRT exercises but they did not help. In 2002 she had balance testing and posterior canal plugging to the left side.
Avatar n tn For the subset of patients whose symptoms are not well controlled by conservative therapy, intratympanic steroids can be offered for control of vertigo episodes. These are typically administered by ENT in the clinic under local anesthesia. Studies support their usefulness in this respect, with suggested mechanisms being overall decreased inflammation and autoimmune responses. There is a low risk of persistent TM perforation associated with this procedure.
1553775 tn?1325182402 Welcome and thanks for your question. Hydrochlorothiazide is a simple diuretic that works by helping remove excess fluids from your blood and tissues. It is very safe and can be discontinued anytime, but preferably after you have made the necessary lifestyle changes to lower your BP. Also, I have never heard of Paxil causing HP, but [perhaps some one else has.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar m tn I AM TAKING HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 25MG. I HAVE BEEN TAKEN THEM FOR 3 YRS NOW. THIS MEDICATION JUST STOP WORKING. MY DOCTOR WANTS TO ADD ANOTHER MEDICATION FOR ME TO TAKE. DOES THIS EVER GET BETTER. STAYS THE SAME OR DO THE MEDICATION YOU ARE TAKE ALWAYS GET ADJUSTED. UNTIL YOU ARE TAKEN 10 DIFFERENT MEDICATION. Avatar f tn I'm presently on atenolol 40 mg (along with hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I would stop taking it and the numbness/tingle would go away, take it again, and it would come right back. Not sure if he is taking hydrochlorothiazide. They had me on it for edema. I have swelling in my hands and ankles, all tests neg except for CMV. Battling this since April 2008. Hands so swollen, can't open bottles, hold a pen, hold a phone or peel the label off the top of yogurts..ect..
Avatar n tn (found it after further testing due to high blood pressure) Dr. just put me on Lisinopril and Hydrochlort. for the hypertension. On several occasions I have been noticing some numbness in my toes. Some times it's just one toe and some times it's 3 or 4 toes. Any idea's? Could this be due to the medicine?
Avatar f tn I am so confused because I have too many issues that can cause the same symptoms. Recently, my doctor switched me from Valsartan HCTZ to Hydrochlorothiazide plus regular Valsartan for my blood pressure. When I first started it, right away I was having rapid heart beat and shortness of breath so he told me take potassium supplements. That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium.
1668318 tn?1306416764 I am wondering if my doctor is testing me for chf shes having me weigh my self every morning and she also put me on Hydrochlorothiazide/Spironolactone com 25 mg each?
Avatar f tn I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?
Avatar f tn Hi thanks for the explanation. I did have severe vertigo last year and saw an ENT that said my vertigo was not an inner ear issue he suggested then it was neurological in nature but further investigation is yet to determine where my vertigo stems from. I'm often lightheaded. But I also feel like when I'm standing doing something I feel like things are moving around me. Strange I know but it doens't happen often enough to really bother me yet.
Avatar m tn At that time I was taking 50 mg of Atenelol per day for heart palpitations, nothing more than OTC acid reducer. The new MD prescribed Hyzaar for HPB. I had horrible feelings so we cut it to half per day 25mg and 25 Atenelol. I still have days that I cannot function, I feel heavy in my head and chest and just have no energy at all. I have great days and horrible days but lately more horrible days. I just don't feel right.
Avatar n tn i was told to take gravol for my vertigo is this true will gravol help my vertigo
Avatar f tn Diagnosed recently with high blood pressure. New med Hydrochlorothiazide for 2 weeks. Now my upper gum & roof of mouth are red, swollen, and painful. This is not a listed side affect. What's wrong?
Avatar f tn I tried benicar and lisinopril and caused sinus drainage - however, they worked Then tried hydrochlorothiazide which cause major constipation .... Now on amlopidine beselate and coreq cr and have fatigue....seems the latter meds are overkill as I had only one coronary stent over 10 hrs ago and cardiologist a few weeks ago said my heart is fine.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the replys ive had vertigo for a month now it went away for a couple of days in between but came bak im taking stemtil which I find helps clear my head a bit helps wit my nausea too I hope it goes away will keep posted :)
1243333 tn?1296446902 High blood pressure is not good for the heart and can lead to decreased function and an increase in angina. Your blood pressure should really be less than 140/90 and if you have diabetes or chronic kidney disease it should be less than 130/80. If you aren't on the maximal dose of Norvasc which is 10mg and the highest dose of Valturna then your physicians should probably start another bp agent such as Hydrochlorothiazide or increase the cattapress patch. Why are you on spironolactone?
Avatar n tn will drinking grapefruit juice interfere with hydrochlorothiazide or any other medication
Avatar n tn I stopped the hydrochlorothiazide and am stopping the Atenolol by reducing the dose by 1/2 for 7 days to 12-1/2 mg, then reducing to 6-1/4 mg for another 7 days, then stopping it altogether. I plan on using the elliptical to exercise on, which has lowered my blood pressure in the past; but now I don't know what effects Atenolol has had on my heart long term. Do not trust Doctors or Medication that can screw you up for the rest of your life!!
Avatar f tn Your medications generally do not cause diabetes. The hydrochlorothiazide in Dyazide can increase blood sugar levels in diabetics. Other risk factors for diabetes include advancing age, body weight and lack of exercise. If not already doing so, try some lifestyle modifications such as exercising regularly, eating few carbohydrates and sugars, and avoid smoking.
Avatar f tn So, I just figured the Hydrochlorothiazide must not have sulfa in it for him to give it to me. But I found out that IT DID have sulfa in it! The pharmacist told me that, when I called to explain what I was experiencing. As soon as I told him what was happening, he asked me if I was allergic to sulfa? I told him I had thought that I was, based on my reaction to the other pill. So he told me to stop taking it.
Avatar m tn She was on Hydrochlorothiazide (HCZD) for a while but inexplicably discontinued the medication a few months ago after discussing with her doctor; apparently they felt her BP had normalized. Well, it clearly hasn't! I'm asking her to go on a low sodium diet. My impression is, her sodium intake is high. She likes spicy dishes.
Avatar n tn Can this be artificially high because of medications taken for other problems i.e. high blood pressure (5mg Norvasc, 12.5mg Hydrochlorothiazide, .1mg clonodine 2x daily), hormone replacement (premarin 1.25), anit-depressant (150xl Wellbutrin), sleep-aid (Ambien) and Prevacid?
